Difference between Platinum and Masterpiece?
What is the difference between a Platinum Edition and a Masterpiece or Special Edition? What qualifies a movie as a Platinum Edition or otherwise? If there is already a thread, you can just point me to it.
Buffy: We have a marching jazz band?
Oz: Yeah, but, you know, since the best jazz is improvisational, we'd be going off in all directions, banging into floats... scary.

Platinum Editions have much better DVD quailty than the Masterpiece/Special Editions. As for why some movies get Platinum Editions and others don't, the main reason is because the movies that get Platinum Editions are considered Disney's best movies. Not that Sleeping Beauty/Alice/Pocahontas were terrible fims, but they aren't as memorable as the other movies that get Platinum Editions.

That surely does help. But that leads to another question (what is it with me and my questions??
) Is there a release schedule for the "non-Platinum" special editions like there is for the Platinum releases?

Hogwash. The ME/SE DVDs look just as good as the PE DVDs IMHO.Timon/Pumba fan wrote:Platinum Editions have much better DVD quailty than the Masterpiece/Special Editions.
More hogwash. The Platinum title is reserved for the 10 highest-grossing Disney films (box office and home video) of all-time. They are hardly "Disney's best movies."Timon/Pumba fan wrote:As for why some movies get Platinum Editions and others don't, the main reason is because the movies that get Platinum Editions are considered Disney's best movies. Actually after looking at all the Platinums they're going to be releasing I have to say that with the exception of Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, Jungle Book, and 101 Dalmatians, those ARE some of my favorite Disney MoviesThe Lizard King wrote:Hogwash. But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

You know when I say DVD quaility I'm also referring to the bonus material. Plus sometimes the Platinums look slightly better than ME/SE. IMOThe Lizard King wrote:Hogwash. Remember I didn't say those films were Disney's best movies, I said that those movies are "CONSIDERED Disney's best movies". Most people would probably consider the top highest grossing films to be great films just because they do well at the box office(how else did Titanic win all those awars?) and this is the case for Disney as well. The Lizard King wrote:More hogwash. So, for you, only 6 out of the 10 Platinums are among your favorite Disney movies. This just reinforces my point that the 10 Platinums at not "Disney's best movies," as Timon/Pumba fan stated in an earlier post.rexcrk wrote:Actually after looking at all the Platinums they're going to be releasing I have to say that with the exception of Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, Jungle Book, and 101 Dalmatians, those ARE some of my favorite Disney Movies
