I got no sleep last night

Post by Jack »

I got home from hanging out with my pals last night and went to sleep around 12:30 PM. I had a hard time sleeping for quite a while, and finally started to get some shut-eye.

It seemed a very short while later my mom came tip-toeing in my room and woke me up saying, "There's someone in our yard, pounding on your window, yelling hello!" At first I thought I was dreaming. After I realized I was good and awake, I listened and didn't hear a sound. I asked her what the heck she was talking about, and she said there was someone just outside my room.

All of a sudden, I heard a humongous crack, like a rock being thrown on wood. "HELLO?" I heard a deep voice yell. My heart probably skipped several beats right then. I had no clue what was going on. I told my mom to stop talking or else he'd hear her, and said to go to the other side of the house to call the cops so he wouldn't hear her.

After she left, I heard a bunch of footsteps, and an even louder crack than the one before. "HELLO? HELLO? HELLO?" I eased up to look outside the window and saw this dark figure standing extremely close by, followed my several more loud cracks and booms.

At that point, I heard my neighbor's voice, who is right on the other side of our yard, seperated only by a wire fence. It was then I realized the intruder wasn't in our yard, but right on the other side of the fence. "What?" My neighbor yelled. "HELLO?" The dark figure yelled.

"What is it?" My neighbor shouted, clearly shaken. "YOUR YARD IS BEING BURGLERIZED, DUDE! THERE'S FIVE GUYS IN YOUR YARD TRYING TO BREAK IN!" I heard a huge clamor, so loud, it felt like it was right in my room. It lasted until the cops showed up and came marching all over the yard and detained the dark figure.

At that point, I heard the cop saying to the figure: "You can't just keep trying to break into people's houses! There is nobody after you!" To my amazement, the figure started talking like a woman, laughing, giggling, saying "Yeah, Uh-uh!" He was a regular Norman Bates! Aparently, he was some mentally ill person who kept going around and trying to break into houses, claiming there was 5 guys after him. The cops had a long history with this person. The loud banging and cracking was him trying to break into the window right next to mine. He seemed to sneak into my neighbor's yard in between our houses where there is this tiny gap in the fence.

It was all over by 4 AM. I couldn't sleep at all, and before I knew it, it was sunrise. I don't think I've ever had the crap scared out of me that bad.

maybe you should invest in a weapon if it would make you feel safer. i don't necessarily mean a gun. even a baseball bat would be handy at such times.

or maybe an alarm system? at least then you could sleep in peace knowing that if someone did try to break in again then you would at least be given fair warning.

I have a couple heavy wooden bats I keep handy for that exact purpose.

As for security, there were bars on our windows before we moved into our house. If it were entirely up to me, I'd take the intrusive bars off and get an alarm system, but my parents aren't up for it.

My being scared last night didn't have so much to do with feeling insecure, but rather totally shocked. Something like that hasn't happened in our neighborhood in a long time. Sadly, I think its just going to get worse. Its a nice neighborhood, but we live next to a big park and gang members are slowly moving in. Its nowhere near a ghetto, but I expect a bit of an increase in violence and burglury in the general area.

Wow, that's really freaky. Guess you should be dorming to avoid the Norman Bates night prowlers.

Seriously, though, that would really, really freak me out. Even your description was spooky. You could make a sequel to your other film about this now. At least a short film. Get Tim Burton to exec-produce. ;)

 Good idea, Luke!

Another thing I just found out from the neighbors was that he actually got inside their house and took his pants off to reveal speedo underwear. When they saw him, he ran and hid somewhere in their house and they didn't know where the hell he went till the cops showed up. I can't imagine how shook up they were, based on my own shock. Jeez.
