News and Photos of Upcoming Disney Productions

New Disney Feature Animation Artwork

Jim Hill Media attended SIGGRAPH 2005 at the Los Angeles Convention Center where Walt Disney Feature Animation had new artwork and plot summaries for their upcoming projects.

Included are new looks at American Dog, A Day with Wilbur Robinson, Rapunzel Unbraided and Toy Story 3.

Here is what they have to say:

As you tour the main exhibition hall at the Los Angeles Convention Center, there's no way you can miss Walt Disney Feature Animation's booth. Easily one of the more impressive exhibits on the floor at this year's CG & emerging technologies conference, Booth No. 1724 not only hypes the studio's upcoming release (I.E. "Chicken Little," which is due to debut in theaters on November 4th), it also displays a significant amount of concept art for WDFA's next four animated films: "American Dog," "A Day with Wilbur Robinson," "Rapunzel Unbraided" and "Toy Story III."

In addition to this artwork, Disney has also included brief plot descriptions of the four films the Mouse currently has in the works:

American Dog

Henry, a famous TV dog, finds himself stranded in the Nevada desert. Out in the world for the first time, Henry's tidy life of scripted triumph has come to an end, and his 2,000 mile trek through the real world is just beginning.

Image

Image

A Day with Wilbur Robinson

When Lewis, a 12 year-old genius inventor, meets a mysterious boy from the future, the two travel forward in time and spend the day with Wilbur's eccentric family -- a day that will change Wilbur's life forever.

Image

Image

Rapunzel Unbraided

Sick to death of storybook endings where true love conquers all, a frustrated witch brings two romantically-challenged teenagers from the real world into the classic fairytale, and transforms them into the legendary long-haired heroine and her gallant prince.

Toy Story III

After a major malfunction, Buzz Lightyear is recalled to a toy factory in Taiwan. Woody and the gang have to hightail it halfway around the world to save Buzz before he dissembled forever.

Image

Of all the productions being promoted at Booth 1724, "Toy Story III" has to be the most controversial. Given that the Walt Disney Company and Pixar Animation Studios have recently reportedly renewed negotiations (In an effort to find some way to extend their current co-production / distribution agreement), having the Mouse so prominently announce its intentions to go forward with a "Toy Story" sequel ... Well, I can't help but think that this display was meant to send a message.

Particularly when you take into consideration that Pixar's own SIGGRAPH booth ( No. 1946) is located just an aisle or so away. More to the point, as one walks down the aisle heading from Pixar Animation Studios to Walt Disney Feature Animation, the very first display you see at the WDFA's booth is for "Toy Story III." Co-incidence? I don't think so.

Image

Anyway ... The Walt Disney Company will be using this booth in the main exhibition hall at this year's SIGGRAPH convention as this week's headquarters for WDFA's ongoing effort to recruit new CG artists & animators to come work for WDFA. Mind you, a big part of this year's recruitment push comes tomorrow morning with its "The Legacy of Disney Animation" presentation in West Hall A.

This is when the Mouse is expected to put on its full-court press. Putting legendary animators like Glen Keane on stage during a two hour long "special session" in an effort to sell SIGGRAPH conventioneers on the idea that WDFA -- NOT Pixar -- is the place that talented CG artists should really want to work in the coming years.

Thanks goofy108! Toy Story 3 doesn't look that impressive unfortunatly, but the others look great.

A Day with Wilbur Robinson : Looks alot like Tim Burton's work!

American Dog: Don't they know Mount Rushmore's in South Dakota, not Nevada!

Rapunzel Unbraided: Looks amusing.

New Disney Production Pictures

Post by Disney Duster »

It all looks interesting, but I especially like the looks of American Dog. I hear it's going to have a radioactive rabbit! All those pictures look nice, but I'm disappointed. I was hoping Disney would do a 2-D animated feature, done in a classic fairy tale style, for Rapunzel. But no, they had to take the contemporary "fairy tale with a twist" route. *sigh* And hey, isn't the plot of Rapunzel Unbraided, a witch putting people from the real world in a fairy tale, just the Enchanted plot reversed(Enchanted was going to have a girl from a fairy tale world enter the real world)?

woooo hoooo... 3 more comedies and a somewhat controversial sequel... aren't we just thinking out of the box!!!

well needless to say i am dissapointed, i guess it is true that there won't be anymore 2D classics (at least for a while). I'd rather see a musical than a comedy now a days though, this trend for every single animated film coming out to be a comedy is getting kinda old for me. and if i'm not mistaken i'm not the only one...

bah! what am i saying? i'm prolly gonna love them all anyways! hehe

WOW! :o :D Thanks for posting goofy!!! :D :o

I remember a member a few weeks ago looking for stuff just like this. He'll/She'll certainly be happy!!

The art looks great and I feel a lot better about Rapunzel. After the freaky idea of Rapunzel with Squirrells and Bloodhounds, I'm glad to know we're back to humans. It's obvious that Disney isn't really returning to their traiditional lush, dramatic, slightly humorous Disney fairy tale, but going for a CGI modern movie turned fairy tale. Interesting concept. I don't think it's really been done before. All I can think of was that movie "Charming" or "Prince Charming" with Christina Applegate, Martin Short, Bernadette Peters, and whoever played the Prince. I look forward to more news and more information about this Rapunzel Unbraided. It has the possibility of being very entertaining or another flop. I heard Clay Aiken is supposed to sing for this. Is this true or am I making it up?

American Dog looks cute and Wilbur Robinson looks interesting. I hope that Pixar and Disney decided to do Toy Story 3 together or Disney justs drops the project. The storyline sounds promising, but too much like a repeat of Toy Story 2 just the characters are reversed.

Hm well, the plot does not look so bad. But I really think Toy Story 3 will be a bad one. What is happening with Disney these days?

They are ruining Rapunzel, period. Toy Story III seems like a rehash of one and two. That can be both good and bad. The other two movies sound very interesting and amazingly stylised.

I've been looking forward to American Dog for quite some time now, since we got a first glimpse of it, now im even more excited about it! :D I have always been worried about A Day With Wilbur Robinson, the plot and characters to me just sound boring but im now less worried since the animation looks quite unique. Rapunzel Unbraided - how many times has it changed?? Anyway the current storyline sounds good, im liking the way they are going to put a whole different spin on 'happy fairytales'.

Now lets get to Toy Story 3, :( <<<< thats my face right now. Its all good and well saying the storyline isnt unique, but i think people are forgetting Disney need to make sure Hanks and Allen are part of this, if they arent bin it, they shouldnt even hesitate to get different voice casting without those two it just wont be Toy Story. Im hoping something can be sorted out with Pixar and Disney.....although its not looking good.

But overall i am impressed with the upcoming stuff, for some reason i feel the past few years Disney have just rushed out the last 2D films they had in production so they could get onto CGI, although i enjoyed "Atlantis", "Brother Bear" and "Home On The Range" i still think Disney didnt care about them and wanted them gone. Now i feel they are trying to get the new CGI films spot on, and im guessing they are going for Pixar standards, only time will tell....

A Day with Wilbur Robinson is looking better from when I saw it as a story board. But anyway, American Dog and Rapunzel Unbraided look good. I'll see Toy Story 3 but it's not looking as good as I hoped it would. I really hope that Pixar, Allen and Hanks come back.

From the looks of things, I am only really interested in Rapunzel Unbraided, as the other films (with the possible exception of American Dog) don't seem interesting, and frankly rather patronising (especially in the case of the bland looking Toy Story 3 that makes me say that Disney should keep Toy Story from not becoming a third of a trilogy...).

Yeah krystal took the words right out of my mouth. All of them llok fairly intreasting, but only time will be able to tell. I remeber sometime last summer we saw a few pics and sketches for tow of the moves Repunzle unbraided and American Dog.

But whats has my attention the most is Toy Story III like most here it is because of the news of PIXAR and Disney maybe joining forces for another term (Which I really want) Also I am baffled about the plot here I thought it was just a rumor  lol silly me, all well. I look forward to hearing more news for all these features.

Anyone hear any rumblings about whether Tink will actually speak in her upcoming movie. That might cause quite a ruckus, don't you think?

No one knows for sure, but it looks like she will. We've discussed this before in this thread if you would like to read our rumblings about the news: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... ght=pixish

2 more pictures of Rapunzel Unbraided:

This picture...

...and the look of the film was inspired by a painting called "The Swing" painted by an artist named Jean-Honore Fragonard. (You can definetly see the resemblence!) Here is a picture of it:

And another picture of Rapunzel:
