Blockbuster question

Post by Yaya »

I don't know if this is a question or jsut a comment. OK. so everyone knows that Blockbuster got rid of late fees and whatnot BUT did they really? I don't think so. I jsut think they renamed their late fee to "restocking fee." It's the same as before you rent the movie for what 5 or 7 days but after that they say you can keep the movie for however long but they charge you a restocking fee. Sounds to me like a late fee but thats just me!! What does everyone else think?

I agree. One of these days, I'm getting an account with Netflix. No more late fees or restocking fees or any kind of fees (other than the monthly fee, of course)

BTW, I like your Gizmo avatar (at least I think that's his name in Gremlins)
Buffy: We have a marching jazz band?
Oz: Yeah, but, you know, since the best jazz is improvisational, we'd be going off in all directions, banging into floats... scary.

I know Yaya, I was wondering that myself. But I thought the way I usually think and saw right through that gimmick. In a way, they're getting you to think you won't have to pay a late fee. Then you come in some week and a half later and you owe them money for being late. You say, "wait, no late fees" but they say, "did you really watch the commercial? Did you read the fine print? You have to pay a fee for restocking." Maybe the price of the fee makes a difference, but the time limit is just as strict as it ever was before. I'll bet the price for restocking new releases is not the same as older releases, and so on.

This is just one of those things that they did for publicity and we all should have known right away that it was too good to be true. Blockbuster has been losing serious business and even at one point considering selling out. I read this at the IMDb news section. And it sure worked didn't it, because people initially started renting more. But the one question that I have is: has this restocking fee always been there at the first moment Blockbuster announced the "No more late fees" gimmick? Either way, it's interesting.

As a pass employee of Blockbuster. I agree that the no late fee thing is not that great and it does seem like false advertising. However the only time the 1.50 stocking fee chagre comes in to play is when the movie is way pass due.

For example if you rent a 2 rental they are still going to tell you that your movie is due back 2 days from the renting day by noon. However you cant make it back by noon on the 3rd day, but you still bring it back just in the evening. Nothing is charaged yto your account. You will always have an extra week from when that movie was rented to you to bring it bacl before any charge of any sort is charged to you. Now if you pass your weeke of grace period the new computer system we got assumes you want to keep the movie so it seel it to your acount for w/e price it is worth @ the time which varies over time, but you still have a whole month to return that movie and get rid of the charge, but thats when trhe stocking fee of a 1.50 comes into play.

I mean if you are keeping a movie that you rented for more than 2 weeks thats no longer renting to me thats called buying.

And when you think of the old system in which you didnt make it in by noon you would be charged another $4.25 now put it into play for 2 weeks and a 2 day rental that would be close to $68 dollars in late fees. Which believe me I saw several times while working there.

So yeah the new system is stupid, but to me it is not anymore stupid than people who choose to keep a rental forever and and then get mad the CSR becasue they brought the movie back the day they are trying to rent and now have to pay a 1.50. (Okay but thats just me trying to shine some light a new system. :) )

Now that you mention it, that doesn't sound so bad.

The restocking fee is the same as a late fee.

I go to Hollywood Video, You get the movie for 5 days there so there is a better chance to return it on time.

Just think, at least they dont charge you the cost of the dvd if you dont return it on time, oh wait they can

At Blockbuster you get to keep the movies for up to 14 days which is better than 5 days and the 2-day movies would be like 9 days. :?
