Anyone else here like Christina Aguilera?
I know many of you don't like most of today's music and artists, but I thought I would post about my all-time favorite artist, who I feel is misunderstood by too many people.
Before I bought her latest album, 2002's "Stripped" in February 2004, I used to think of Christina as another blonde teenybopper pop artist, a Britney Spears wannabe who had no staying power... especially when her music video "Dirrty" was released as her first single off "Stripped."
I was bored one day around late November 2003 and remembered that "Dirrty" song that came out the year before, I thought I would listen to a 30 second sample at WalMart.com just to see what it sounded like again. As I thought might have happened, on the first listen of that sample clip of Dirrty, I was INSTANTLY addicted to the beat and style and soon didn't care what the video looked like.
After hearing Dirrty, I listened to "Beautiful" next, one of the most famous songs ever, and was instantly hooked to it as well. Soon after, I bought the CD, listened to it all, and discovered the top-notch quality of the music that Christina had produced (and she did much of this herself). Her voice is so strong and unique that I consider her as one of the best singers ever.
The CD is mixed with many different styles of music- hiphop, pop, classical, jazz, rock, gospel, and easy listening. I can listen to it in any mood, rather I would be happy, depressed, or angry. This is a very well established first-class album and I highly recommend it, even to those who don't like today's music. Give it a try, just listen to sample clips at Amazon or WalMart.com. I couldn't give you a list of the best songs as most of them are good anyway. But I guess you could listen to "Beautiful" first.
IGNORE "Dirrty" if you don't like that song. NOTHING else on the CD sounds like it.
Finally, Christina is currently working on a new album to release this summer full of 1920s and 30s jazz flavored music, as well as apparently a few Indian style tracks since she spent a few days in India earlier this month for inspiration. I can't wait to get it.

How did you know Christina is my favorite singer? She's regained something of a classy style, but I like almost all of her songs (with the exception of Beautiful. Despite the good message, I find the music video sickening). I have every full length album of hers, including the Christmas one, which is pure gold, and the horrible cash-in that K-Mart did by ripping us off with her unfinished singles from when she was young. There was this message inside from her saying that it didn't reflect her work today, but the message was inside! Oh, well. It helped tide me over to the release of Stripped.
By the way, I must argue that "Fighter" and "Can't Hold Us Down" are a lot like "Dirrty"; I like all three of them, of course. There is still enough slower things on the album to appeal to the adult contemporary audience, though.
I heard she's working on her next two albums (one in spanish).

I have 2 Christina Aguilera DVDs from her kinder, tamer days plus the Mulan video. I think she has an incredible powerful voice (unlike some other singers...
plus the Mulan video. I think she has an incredible powerful voice (unlike some other singers... ) so she's no Britney wannabe. If she doesn't blow her voice raw at an early age by non stop belting (like Raphael did) she may stay for many many years at the top of her game. I do think "Beautiful" is beautiful. I would love to have her in SACD.

That voice could really fill the high resolution 120dB dinamic range (and surround sound you)

Christina Aguilera ?
Um no I am not a fan, nor have I ever been. About the only modern day singer I will even listen to is Hilary Duff

I totally dig Christina Aguilera! Her self-titled debut CD is one of my favorites. She really appleals to people of all audiences. When people find out I'm a fan of hers, their mouths usually drop, because I can't stand teen pop and I usually scorn Top 40 pop singers in general. Her voice has real power and clarity and her song lyrics aren't totally innane. I think she has incredible ability as a songwriter, even though I think her label refuses to let her write the majority of her music. One only needs to look at her performance on Pokemon: The First Movie Soundtrack to see that she has a lyrical prose style that is all but absent in today's music. She's not into bleeding heart poetry, but her songs are also meaningful. I was a follower of Christina before she even made it big, and I accurately predicted that she would take the 1999 Best New Artist Grammy in 2000. So far, she's managed to stear away from that award's curse, so I predict she will have a successful (if albeit bumpy) future.

Wow. Nice to know so many people here like her music. Maybe not necessarily her personality, but her music is what we should pay more attention to.
Oh man, ZOOMBOOM0688, you need to get the "Stripped" CD the next time you go to a retail store that sells music. You'll be listening to it for God knows how long.
I never got her Spanish album yet. I found it in Sam Goody once and it was $18, but didn't want to buy it at the time. But when I planned to get it the next time I went in, it was already gone. I'll get it next time I see it somewhere.

I don't like the "Beautiful" video either. I made my own VCD of all the Christina music videos from her main albums (self-titled and Stripped) including Lady Marmalade, but I deliberately skipped "Beautiful." However the song itself, when not thinking of the video, is a real gem.

I didn't want to create a new thread for a 1-minute sample clip, so I revived this one. It's not too terribly old.
Brand new sample clips were put on Amazon.com for jazz legend, Herbie Hancock's new collaboration album, and Christina Aguilera is there singing the standard, "A Song for You" where Herbie plays the piano and Christina does the vocals. VERY classy and her own album is supposed to be of this genre, coming out early next year. Here's the link:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/clipserve/B000AARK2Q001003/0/104-8886287-3609522
What do you all think??
Go to http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000AARK2Q/qid%3D1121964629/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/104-8886287-3609522 to hear samples of the rest of the songs by different artists.

I like Christina... I know Britney is usually seen as the reigning queen of pop, and there are reasons for that, but when it comes to vocal talent, she's not even near the league of Christina Aguilera and Jessica Simpson. When it comes to versatility, Christina has so far been the winner in that arena. I have all of her English language albums and think that there is some quality music in them, especially in Stripped. However, some of her ventures don't really hold up... especially those in which she teams up with rappers or when it's one of those "don't call me a slut, I'm just doin' muh thang" songs. I think her outstanding musical abilities are overlooked and underrated in the media, but it is a bit difficult for her to expect to be taken seriously while she's simultaneously chasing Britney's coat tails in sexual promotion and balancing quality music with the kind of thing we've come to expect from a Madonna-Britney duet.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I never see a logical reason for putting sex in some songs, even if she says that she's "just being herself." The public in general will only react negatively to that.
I don't like rap either, but not only Christina likes rap, I think she collaborates with some rappers to get a wide audience. Her "Stripped" album is so incredibly diverse, with having some bluesy ballads, gospel-like heavenly songs *AND* club songs with rap in it. Actually, "Dirrty" is the only club song, but "Can't Hold Us Down" is another hip-hop track with Lil' Kim.
But anyway, she may be putting most of that away this time around as she's toning down her raunchy image for a more retro style to match her new music.

I have the spirit of an alien.
I need to find my own kind.
I must shed off the dreadful human skin.
It is very uncomfortable.

Here's Christina's new song, "Keeps Getting Better", which will be on her upcoming Greatest Hits album:

I really like it! I'd prefer a whole new album, so hopefully there will be more than one song on it, and maybe "Lady Marmalade" and "Nobody Wants to Be Lonely" will be on it...?

but I don't care. I haven't bought Stripped because I downloaded like 3 of the songs but the other day I listened to all of it and now I want to buy it. I glad she's making a new album.
