You can't be serious asking if this is fake or not!

If you really thought it even had a chance of being real then I've got some ocean front property to sell you.

I think that auction has every red flag there is (with the exception of the seller living in Manilla!
1) The DVD's are in plastic sleeves inside the box
2) Region Code: Region Free Code
3) Subtitles: English Interactive Menu, Removable English, Chinese
4) Felix, Casper, Daffy
5) This is legal Asian collectors edition (This one really makes me laugh); kind of like the authenic rolex I almost bought in Tijuana
6) "100 Years of Magic" - I didn't realize the Walt Disney started making motion pictures when he was 4?
7) Returned item must be in the same condition as shipped and returned within 7 days after you receive it. (So I guess you have to reseal it in order to get a refund?)

Well, you could say that it comes from a part of the world where "copyright" is hardly considered "law".

But why they'd include Daffy and whatever in a "Disney" set is just stupid.

I finally got a copy of the 1998 version Simba's Pride. The DVD came in an White Alpha case. I found a two-sided insert in the case.

The movie plays fine. I will watch bot the 1998 and 2004 versions now.

It wasn't too hard to tell that the Lady and the Tramp dvd that I ordered through amazon.com was a bootleg.

The cover paper was printed on printer paper (the whole dvd case looked pretty fake in general) and the dvd itself was terrible. It would only play for a few minutes at a time, then it would freeze up. My mom still has to contact amazon.com to replace it with a REAL COPY. Argh.

Greetings, Disnoids- a question about the Snow White Platinum edition. I just bought it off eBay and received only one disc. Was there a one-disc version, and if so, why was it still called "Platinum"? Shouldn't the case have made the distinction? I can't find any distinction to indicate a separate one disc version on Amazon.

Also, although I haven't popped it in yet, it says "widescreen" on it. Surely this can't refer to the feature film???

Welcome Surfer Joe! Sounds like you've got a bootleg. It happens. <i>Snow White</i> was never released in a single-disc or widescreen version. A lot of the times, on out-of-print Disney DVDs on Amazon Marketplace or eBay, if prices seem too good to be true, they are. There are plenty of telltale signs to warn you that you might be getting a bootleg. Hopefully someone can point you to the most relevant threads.

It sure looks real enough. The disc cover art is printed with the hologram effects and everything. The disc description on the back includes a listing for "VIP Tour of Disc Two" but is vague about whether the set is one disc or two. The case is only made for one disc.

Now I'm noticing many listings for copies on Amazon for one disc, but I can't see where it was ever issued in this form. Like you said, though- prices that appear too good to be true- in this case, about $20- usually are.

Well at least you only spent $20 and not $50 for a fake. I guess the only bright side is that if you've never seen the movie b4, now you can. I only hope that the bootleggers didn't add black bars to the picture to make it widescreen b/c then it would be blocking a lot of the picture

! (shudders to think of a pan&scan and censored widescreen movie) Have you watched it yet?

Do you have a picture of the cover and case and disc? I'd like to see it because my official DVD cover doesn't have hologram effects. Unless, do you mean the silver banners on the top and bottom?

Oh, I've seen the film a few times. I still haven't popped the disc in, but I'm sure you know Disney actually released a fake widescreen version to theatres quite a few years back, with the top and bottom of the screen cut off...

The hologram I mentioned is just sort of an overlaid sparkle pattern that moves a little when you tilt it.

Any Snow White DVD you find that is only one disc is surely a fake. I bought a bootleg myself (before I started collecting Disney DVDs, it was only $8 at a flea market).

The hologram effect that you speak of (overlaid sparkle pattern) is the same one my friend got on a bootleg Lion King DVD he bought off of ebay (the real Lion King platinum doesn't have a sparkle pattern on it).

If you could post the link to the completed auction we could tell you the signs that point to the fact that it is a fake.

Edited to add: I've seen real copies of Snow White before and mine is EXACTLY the same in cover and appearance other than the fact that it says "Widescreen version" instead of "Platinum Edition" in the silver strip at the top. Mine doesn't have the fake hologram effect to it.

I've now noticed that the holgram pattern is quite visible in the picture, meaning an actual (non-stock) photo was used, making it apparent that no fraud was intended. The seller probably bought it at one of those flea markets...

The disc I've got says "dts DIGITAL SURROUND SOUND" across the top banner stripe and "PLATINUM EDITION" across the bottom stripe. Both stripes are grey. The disc itself shows Snow White's face in three-quarter angle, looking right above the center hole, with the Queen clutching the box on the right and the Dwarves on the left, in a vertical line-up. The background is blue.
