Original Disney animation artwork.

Hi everyone, new guy on the boards here. I was wondering who here owns original Disney art (cells, drawings, anything)? I own a great cell from Don Bluths "Secret of NIMH" (no Disney, but great nonetheless), where you see Nicodemus' hands holding the red amulet, reflecting his face. I also own a cell from oliver and co, with oliver and georgette. I would love to get an original from the Great Mouse detective one day and also from the Little Mermaid. I don't really know about those sericels and other stuff, that is not "one of", while they cost a big buck. What's the actuall value of those, apart from the value that is given to it, before it has even left the factory? There's nothing special about them, I think. Anyway, any original collectors here, or people who plan to in the future?

I can't afford any of those Disney cels (the last I remember you couldn't even touch one from a Disney TV show for less than $400).

One of my high school math teachers bought a few in Disneyland from 101 Dalmatians and Sleeping Beauty for like $5 each or something and brought them in once to show me, and all I could think was, "Wow. . . I wonder how many people across the world have seen these exact pictures (for a split second, anyway) while watching the movie?" I was in awe. Of course, they were worth a heck of a lot more than $5 by then!

His cel from Dalmatians is easy to spot in the movie, since part of Cruella's glove was painted in wrong.

When I lived in Chicago I walked past an animation gallery every day, and would stop in once in a while to drool. Those sericels and junk got on my nerves, though. You're right, there's nothing special about them.

I'm still kinda sad these wonderfully tangible and often beautiful pieces of art are now considered to be obsolete, but I understand the switch to digital coloring.

While I don't have any Disney cels, I have a couple of Sailor Moon ones I'm very proud of.

I haven't got any, but I could consider getting some original art eventually.

However, I guess I won't go for cels. Cels from decades ago that I would be interested in reached absolutely crazy price levels years ago. I'd rather look for animation drawings and various sorts of sketches. IMO, more interesting "art" can be found among the so-called "inspirational sketches".

I've got a nice inspirational sketch from "Snow White" somewhere- it's a very nicely rendered pencil drawing of the turtle poking his head in the cottage door and casting a shadow. I have a lot of older animation art around the house, but not much that's Disney- a neat cel of a Freddie Moore girl putting a flower in her hair from "Casey Bats Again" is easily the best. I've got a framed cel of the little girl from "Mouse Detective" in night colors, and a longshot drawing of Bambi leaping among the clouds after Faline's kiss, and a few other sundry things. I used to have a great held drawing of Lambert, the Sheepish Lion- the first image of him as an adult as we pan up from his toes, and a drawing of Pecos Bill butting heads with the buffaloes.

One I'll always regret is the drawing I could have had for $75 many years ago- a held drawing of the Prince kissing Snow White as she sleeps, with the reg. marks to her lips indicated in red...

Siren: that's a cool collection of drawings! I saw that movie once, I loved the artwork (wasn't Don Bluth involved with the characters?), I didn't like the story that much unfortunately. Could also be because I saw it in the Dutch version, wich was very childishly done. Sometimes you can get a nice cel from Ebay. The Oliver and Co cel costed me around 50 USD, not very expensive.

I would imagine disney cells to be very pricey, but I have made myself a rather large collection of none other than Sailor Moon cells too! Sunset Girl and I should form a club lol~

Don Bluth directed, wrote it, and wrote one of the songs. It was his last work with Disney before he left.
