Best Audio Commentary

Post by FantasiaMan »

What do you think is the best audio commentary/ies on any Disney DVD?

My personal favorites are the 2 Fantasia commentaries.

Here are also some good audio commentaries to listen to:

-Dumbo
-Fantasia 2000 (2)
-Brother Bear (even though it has no educational value, it's very entertaining)
-Bambi
-Snow White

Bambi (which is more of a visual commentary, but a commentary, none the less)
Sleeping Beauty (informative, and Jeff Kurtti is more entertaining than John Canemaker)
Beauty and the Beast (hilarious and detailed at the same time)
Tarzan (same as Beauty and the Beast)
The Princess Diaries (two commentaries, both hysterical and breezy, even if they're not that deep, though how can you be deep with a film like this?)
Pirates of the Caribbean (like Princess Diaries, the Jack/Keira commentary isn't info-packed, but it's high on pure entertainment value)
Alice in Wonderland (oh...wait... :P )

Pirates of the Carribean-Screenwriters Stuart Beattie, Ted Elliot, Terry Rossio, and Jay Wolpert: I want to be a screenplayer some day so hearing this was incredible. Not only did it give me helpful writing tips, but there were alot of fun facts.

Finding Nemo-Visual Commentary: I didn't like the movie that much, but this was extrodanary.

The Lion King-Directors Roger Allers, Rob Minkoff and Producer Dohn Hahn: I love this just because I love The Lion King! :P

Beauty and the Beast is my favourite, it isn't boring and you can tell that the two doing the commentary really enjoyed making the film.
"Show me the money"

I found the Lion King commentary a little boring. At first they started with the music charts thing, which made me think it was going to be interesting, but caused me to turn the commentary off half way through. But that's just me anyway.

Haven't listened to the Pirates of the Caribbean one, might have to do that soon, same with the Finding Nemo.

I also found the Parent Trap (1961) commentary quite good too, you could tell Halley Mills and David Swift enjoyed making the film and it was only until the commentary that he found out the pool water was dirty, classic.
No signature needed - Kyoto Animation put out some beautiful animation

I personally found the Dumbo commentary to be the best of the commentaries that I have listened to so far, followed by Peter Pan.

OMG, for sure Brother Bear's owns ALL these commentaries hands down in terms of entertainment and originality value. Hilarious Canadian moose should be in all future commentaries. 8)

I don't have fond memories of Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski's commentary for Pirates, but it's been awhile since I listened to it.

My favorites are definitely The Incredibles and Finding Nemo.

Incredibles - Brad Bird is talking a mile a minute on this, and never runs out of things to say. I think that if he just continued to record the commentary, it would've ended up like the commentary for the first episode of Futurama, which went on for at least 10 minutes after the credits were over. I don't have as many good things to say about the technical commentary, though it did have its moments.

Nemo - If you've heard it, even without knowing me, you should know why I like it. If you've listened to this one, you know - because it just comes out of nowhere, and it was so unexpected I couldn't help but crack up, then go back to hear it again (although with the bleep it couldn't really be heard - and now you can guess what it may have been). Another perk to this commentary was how you could press a button at certain parts of the movie and be treated to a behind the scenes clip, whether it be a technical explanation, or a video of Ellen Degeneres in the recording studio.

Also, I just feel like this needs to be said, even though it isn't Disney related - listening to the commentaries for the Star Wars movies is unbearable. I listen to a lot of commentaries, and Episode 1 is one of the few movies where I got so bored with it I turned it off.
