Costco exclusive Disneyland Lithos with DVDs!

Post by epcotfan4 »

Totally surpised that I haven't seen this anywhere yet. At Costco today, I saw a whole section of classic Disney DVDs - with Disneyland attraction poster lithos included in them. How has this not been announced yet?!?

Here's the info - going off of my memory here, so please forgive any mistakes:

$12.99 each
1 Litho set per DVD
3 Lithos in a set
5 different Litho sets
Special 50th anniversary Costco-sized outer packaging

Adventureland litho set available in:
-One of the Vault Disney titles
-20,000 Leagues
-Tron

Tomorrowland litho set available in:
-One of the Vault Disney titles
-Thomasina
-Absent Minded Professor

Fantasyland litho set available in:
-One of the Vault Disney titles
-Davy Crockett 2 movie set
-Darby O'Gill

New Orleans Square litho set available in:
-One of the Vault Disney titles
-Treasure Island
-Freaky Friday (original)

Frontierland litho set avaiable in:
-Vintage Mickey
-Melody Time (not packaged in the 50th anniversary box like the rest)

Sorry I can't remember which Vault Disney titles had which litho sets, but since I already have the 4-pack box set, I didn't bother getting those.

It's a great promotion, since you have a few choices to get each of the sets. All 5 litho sets are very nice, and you can't beat the price!

:earsguy: Hey there, Hi there, Ho there, you're as welcome as can be! Welcome to UD, epcotfantastic4! :D

Thanks for your wonderful post! This is great news, but sadly there are no Costco's on my side of the country. :( Though do you have a digital camera? If so, it would be great to see some pictures of these litho sets! Is this a Costco exclusive? It'd be awesome if they have it at other stores or at Disney World and Disneyland.

Unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera. I'm sure someone will post pictures eventually. I can tell you the attractions though:

Adventureland: Tiki Room, Jungle Cruise, Swiss Family Treehouse
Frontierland: Big Thunder, Country Bears, Splash Mountain
Tomorrowland: Skyway, Peoplemover, Monorail
Fantasyland: Small World, Matterhorn, Peter Pan
New Orleans Square: Railroad, Haunted Mansion, Pirates

Hope someone can post pics soon!

P.S. Thanks for the nice welcome!

THIS is an example of a litho... a big picture of a scene from the movie or something related.

I've seen the Costco lithos (on the DVD packaging) that epcotfan4 is speaking of. So they're real! :p I'm surprised our very own Costcoholic MMP hasn't mentioned it!

And I don't know if I should buy them either. :? They do look cool though. 8)

I was busy reading Harry Potter book 4 and going to the gym....

Okay I did see them last week and I got Absent Minded Professor and Treasure Island. Today I will get Vintage Mickey & Thomasina since I don't own them.

As for the rest I own them and don't care about the litho sets.

Audrey Hepburn is so adorable!!!! So Turner Tv is having a special on her this month and are showing her movies every Weds. of this month. Last night they have "Breakfast at Tiffany's" I dodn't get to see the whole movie, at like 45 mins. I thought she was so good in the end of the movie, I love her. Then they showed "My Fair Lady" which I have recently seen becuase i bought the DVD. At 1st I was like this movie is ok, then I saw all the speical feature of the movie, and I saw it again, now Im in love with the movie, even though the end is kind of anti-climatic. The last movie they showed was at 10 p.m was really tired becuase I had to wake up really early yesterday, but I wantted to see her in "Charade". I got to see like an hour of that, and she was really good in the movie. It also a funny movie. I am beging to really like her, because I kind of introduced to her through DVDS/movies on TV. I know this has nothing to do in what we are talking about, but I know RJKD23 has interest in her.

Jiminy I have looked at one in Victoria and one in Vancouver and not seen them. I am going to Disneyland at the end of September. Hopefully they will still be available in the states then.

At my Costco, some of these DVDs are $18.99 (20,000 Leagues, Tron). Unfortunately fore me, Tron is the only one I don't have and want, but I'm not going to pay $19 for it when I get it elsewhere for $14 or less.

Has anyone else noticed the price discrepancies?

At my Costco in City of Industry, California they are running out of those DVD's or maybe Costco just return the other DVD's back to Disney.

Costco Disney DVDs w/ Lithos

Post by MikeyMouse »

Lots to write here. First off...Hi! New to the board. I wrote Luke yesterday regarding this topic, because once I saw these packages at my local Costco, I had to not only buy them (great prices on movies I never got around to owning PLUS the exclusive 50th anniversary prints for $12.99?!?!), but learn more about them, why they were released, what the distribution was like, etc. Sadly, all my internet searches turned up completely empty, so I decided to send off an email to see why the "UltimateDisney" site had no news on them. He directed me to this thread, and said he'd consider putting up a news bit on them so others would be informed as well. Lo and behold, this morning I see a paragraph at the top of the UD homepage about this very item! Hopefully everyone who's able will get out and grab them while they last.

Answering the question about what the "he!! a litho is" (I think that first word was supposed to be a censor-friendly version of the hot, bad place): "litho" is short for "lithograph" and refers to an offset style of printing traditionally done with oil-based inks on a lithography stone. The image to be printed is rendered on a flat stone, and treated to retain ink while the nonimage areas are treated to repel ink. Multiple stones are prepared to represent the different colors, and multiple impressions of the stones on the same sheet of paper create the color image. Nowadays, the term "lithograph" is used to represent any type of high-quality, multiple-color print...instead of stones they usually use sheet zinc or aluminum plates. The lithographs included with these discs are very nice, and are on par with the quality of other prints made available in the WD Treasures Tins. They even have a nice 50th Anniversary wrapper band around them to hold all three together.

The "Vault Disney" titles that are available are: The Parent Trap (New Orleans Square), Old Yeller (Fantasyland), Polyanna (Tomorrowland), and The Swiss Family Robinson (Adventureland). As far as I know, Costco has these exclusively, although I will drop in to BJ's over the weekend and see if they have them as well. I don't know about any price discrepancies, but all of the titles in my Costco were $12.99, including Tron and 20,000 Leagues. From what I can gather from the literature on the boxes, 4 of them were released at the same time, with the two "Frontierland" sets being released on July 12th (the release date for "Vintage Mickey"). All other sets' boxes say "Collect 4 sets now! 5th set to be released on July 12th", while my Vintage Mickey box said "Collect all 5 sets now!"

I have a digital camera, and a scanner, so I'll try to post pictures sometime over the weekend. If anyone is unable to get to a Costco, drop me a line, perhaps something could be worked out. My local store has plenty. 8)

Does anyone know if there has ever been a book collecting the attraction posters?

I think that they are awfully sharp!

There are quite a few in the Imagineering book that came out a few years ago which got me thinking that I wish they had a collection of them.

Nooo, why is my mom not a member of Costco? She always waits for my aunts to go with her so she doesn't have to buy the membership. If I had just met my mom and judging my the way she shops I would've thought she'd be a Costco member. I guess you can't have everything in life, and being a non-Costco member is one of them. Hopefully I'll get to go with my aunt's and my cousin someday this month! :D

At least you have rhw chance of going. Costcos don't seem to exist on this side of the country. Oh well, maybe some day they will like how Target took forever to get here. Then again you guys probably don't have any White Castles, but you're not really missing anything.
