Is it true that "Aladdin" & "The Little Mermaid" are next?

are you serious?? all the platinum edition titles? :o
Can't wait!!

I'm dying to see the restored version of The Little Mermaid. Hopefully and most certainly it will get a deluxe treatment just like Snow White & Beauty and the Beast got ! I love the lush, vibrant colors of those two (especially the latter). :)

I doubt that all the Platinum titles will be getting one. I mean did Snow White? :? I didn't think so, but even if it did, I would think only, the October platinums would get I-max releases. I think we can all agree Aladdin and Mermaid are definates. Also a few months back, I heard that Tarzan was getting an I-max release, don't remember though, if this was confirmed by anyone else. If it is true then there will be 2 I-max releases, perhaps, in 2005, which is the year I heard it was being released, though it would make more sense if it were 2006, as there are no scheduled movies for that year, that I know of, and it would mark 7 years since it was in theatres last, and disney used to release movies back to theatres every 7 years. So this is the possible 3 year list I came up with...

2004 - Aladdin
2005 - The Little Mermaid
2006 - Tarzan

don't know anything beyond that. :)

I don't think "Aladdin" and "Mermaid" will get IMAX releases. Although special editions of these films were being produced (restoration ala "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King"), it's uncertain if they will be released to theaters, since the rereleases haven't been much profitable for Disney. As we still don't have any official announcement of the rerelease of "Aladdin", I'm uncertain if it will happen - and I don't think it will.

I thought Disney didn't mind loosing money on the IMAX releases as they were basically 'promotions' for the DVDs anyway?
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

To my understanding, the IMAX restorations of Aladdin and The Little Mermaid are complete, so they will be released. Any other movies that have completed touch-up work will also be released, but after that no more since IMAX reissues have not been a profitable venture for Disney.

I heard the Tarzan and Toy Story names tossed around, but since they aren't completely remastered for IMAX I don't think Disney will spend the time.

Stuff like Jungle Book, Lady and the Tramp, Cinderella, and 101 Dalmatians is almost certainly NOT going to be put in the IMAX format. They'd look pretty horrible blown up that much anyway.

When DVDFile interviewed Don Hahn, he confirmed Aladdin was the next to recieve IMAX treatment in Jan. '04.

I have only seen one IMAX movie. It was like two years ago at a museum. We had went for a science field trip. I don't know what the movie was called, but I loved it because it made you feel like you were flying! I want to see Lion King or Aladdin in an IMAX, but I don't know where there is a theater.

latest update on IMAX release from jimhillmedia:

"Shouldn't we have heard something about "Aladdin" in IMAX by now?

I mean, the film's still listed under the "Coming Soon" section over at www.imax.com. But -- as for an exact release date -- the only information that they have over there is that the film will be coming to large format screen in "2004." Beyond that ... nothing.

Reading between the lines here: Given that the box office performance for the IMAX versions of both "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King" were disappointments to the Walt Disney Company, perhaps what's happened here is that -- in order to keep costs down -- the Mouse has just cut back on "Aladdin"'s marketing budget. Chances are, as we get closer to January 1, 2004 (which -- allegedly -- will be this 1992 film's official re-release date), we'll finally start to see some posters and ads for "Aladdin"'s large format debut.

Of course, if "Aladdin" also under-performs during its IMAX engagement, I'm fairly certain that Disney will just forgo their long-in-the-planning 2005 IMAX release of "The Little Mermaid." Which would really be a shame. Given the millions of dollars (and thousands of man hours) that the Mouse poured into getting that 1989 release ready for its large format debut."

i think sleeping beauty will look great on imax but the downfall is that IMAX screens are 1:77.1 and sleeping beauty been 2:35.1 it will loose alot of picture. but I can't for aladdin and Ursula in the little mermaid at the end! omg that gotta be awesome! and the Little Mermaid tittle appearing in the water and the awesome music and mickey, donald and goofy in triton's palace that's going to be a blast watching!

Gotta love the ending sequence in The Little Mermaid :)

And the main titles scene is one of the best scenes in ANY Disney movie EVER!!!

Skillfully drawn and the music is quite stunning. I love how it builds to the climax when we finally see the castle.
