This will depend on my wallet, but I'll be in WDW in a few weeks. When I'm there, I'm hoping to get at least one (hopefully more) of these DVDs. When that happens, there are plans to have that reviewed for the site, which can maybe help you even more after Kram's excellent and informative post! :)

The whole vacation/theme park DVD series seems kinda confusing to me but the theme parks and all that is something Is till don't know a lot about. I've never been!

My best friend however is going to Walt Disney World this year. She's been to Disneyland Paris and now WDW... I'm pretty jealous...

Anyways I want to get her a video, DVD that is but I'll go for the free one but I don't know much about it. Guess I should read more of the posts I guess. It confuses me a little though which is weird since I don't easily get this confused. :?

orestes. > The free DVDs that can be gotten from the WDW and DL websites or over the phone are very promotional in nature. They take you on a tour of various attractions and give you official pointers about the park. There's a lot of introductory info about the resorts too. It's really more for vacation planning than it is vacation remembering, but hey it's free and has a lot of park footage, so it's still great for fans.

The 4 DVDs that are sold at Walt Disney World are more of the souvenier nature. I haven't seen these, but from what I understand they chronicle the park for fans. It's more a video about each park, instead of a video about how and why you should go about planning to go to Disney. Hope this helps.

Never you fear! You can call the MOM/DelivEARS service and Disney will mail it to you for the same price you could buy it for in the parks, plus a $8 shipping fee for your entire order, however large it may be.

Also, you can buy it from those who have already bought it from the theme parks- a little mark-up on the price, which is fair, but a little less hassle. This option would also support UltimateDisney.com if you went through the site store that has it. I don't think it's the normal Shop/Search site... the link to it is in one of the threads about this DVD. Maybe Luke can post it again, as I can't remember what it was. :)

Ah thanks Aaron. I have ordered one of the free videos for my friend who is going to Walt Disney World this fall. I wish it just wasn't a promo DVD but maybe it'll get me more excited about going to Disney World one day.

I would like the souvenir dvds but I think I'll wait until I actually go to WDW and Disneyland to pick those up but it would be nice to have a set like the Disneyland Treasures set and this DVD that was supposed to come out chronicling the history and creation of ALL of their theme parks.

Does Disneyland have a free promo DVD package? I didn't see one last night when I was on their site.

Thank you Kram for your informative post.

I will probably order the Magic Kingdom and Epcot dvds with the paycheck I get this Friday. However, first, I think I am going to try to talk my husband into going to Disneyworld again for a few days. If I can talk him into it, I will wait and buy them at the parks.

And Aaron, I look forward to reading your review of the dvds if you get them before I do.

I was just in Disney World and picked up the box set that contains the DVD's for the four parks plus a bonus Disneyland DVD. I was very dissapointed. The Magic Kingdom DVD is a re-release of another DVD that I already own with a few extras hyping up the anniversary. The free Disneyland DVD is also a re-release of the DVD I bought when I was there. As for the other parks, the only one I have gotten around to watching is EPCOT and there is this really annoying scientist as your tour guide. The bonus features have been very misleading so far. For example, the back of the Disneyland disc lists it as having the Aladdin and Snow White shows. It is just a minute long commercial advertising both. I have not been pleases so far.

Yeah, Disneyland has buried the DVD on their site for some reason. Here's the direct link: https://secure.disney.go.com/dlr/vpk/vp ... ecode=9996 . Don't expect much. The DVD is extremely crappy (obviously created on a laptop and then just replicated). It won't even play in my DVD player- I have to use my computer. It's very short and there's more about WDW than there is Disneyland. Still, it's free, and Disneyland doesn't currently have a souvenier DVD like the WDW parks do to my knowledge.

The current WDW DVD is pretty cool... the video quality isn't all that great and the editing is very, um, "trendy" unlike their previous DVDs, which you may or may not like. It's a 2-Disc set, the second disc is a vacation planning CD-Rom. There's also a packet of information and a planning kit inside the case.

In addition to WDW and DL, the Disney Vacation Club and the Disney Cruise Line have DVDs available as well. I'm with you in hoping that we get more Disneyland Treasures (and then ones focusing on the other parks as well... I really want the 20th anniversary television special of WDW).

Thanks for the link to the free Disneyland dvd, I just put in my request. I had put in my request for the free Disneyworld dvd about a week ago. Hopefully, I will be receiving it soon. I also went ahead and requested the cruise line dvd (I didn't know that one existed, so Thanks!).

The reason that Disneyland does not advertise their DVD is because it's not very good. It's only the 5 minute segment that is already found on the Walt Disney World DVD.

That's it. You put in the DVD, the segment plays, and it's over. The only thing I did notice was the deletion of the part that says "People still walk down Main Street USA looking around in awe and wonder....knowing that Walt Disney was there" Maybe Disney World execs didn't like that?

No problem for my post :) .

I guess the bottom line is, anyone who goes to this site religiously or even lurks or has some sort of DIsney DVD collection will be disappointed with the WDW parks souvenier DVDs, like goofystitch said. If you're looking forward to something like the Disneyland USA Treasure, then you'll be gravely disappointed. The MK DVD does get bonus points for adding some old footage, but they're not very long anyhow.

The Disneyland Secrets...etc DVD seems like it will be better than Disneyland USA (and much better than the WDW DVDs), but unfortunately we now have no idea when it'll be released.

I hope we did not discourage you from buying them or being disappointed. But on the bright side, these DVDs are great if you don't feel like videotaping the park yourself. Also, if you know any families or kids that have been there or will be going, this is a great way to remember and look forward to the park. If I were younger, I'd go crazy and watch these DVDs everyday.

I guess I'm trying to say:

Thanks for the link! Although I had to follow the Canadian link and it looks like I can only get a crappy VHS copy and the site looks like it hasn't been updated in two years.

It's a real shame that a huge company like Disney doesn't put more effort into this. There are some aspects of Disney (not just theme parks or movies) that I think they could do a lot better. Maybe they can't and I'm just dreaming since I'm a nobody and they are a massive corporation.

I just received the Free Disneyworld Vacation Planning dvd in the mail yesterday. I was very impressed with the packaging of the dvd & cd rom. They come in a nice keep case and the cover is also nice. All of the planning brochures fit nicely into the dvd case. I liked the dvd overall, it was somewhat corny at points but it did take you into each park and all the footage they showed of the parks made me wish I was back at Disneyworld again. I have played with the cd rom a little bit and it gives you nice virtual tours of the hotels on Disney's property.

I haven't been able to order my Magic Kingdom and Epcot Happiest Celebration on Earth dvds yet. I believe we are going back in December so I may wait until then to get those dvds.

I just watched it last night (the free one) and I like it a lot better than the official Magic Kingdom DVD. It is A LOT shorter but all the footage looks a lot better and consistent and you get a better sense of how alive the park and whole of DIsney World can be.

lol, you can see Luke in this DVD! He's an Ashton-Kutcher-dude-I-love-thrill-rides-somebody-cut-my-bangs guy. lol, jk! I know that's not our Luke. I wonder if that was even the hosts real names.

I just got the free planning DVD today and really liked it. I actually was surprised by how long it was (the main portion's 50 minutes, and then there's a good 40 minutes or so of supplements). My only beef is with the main feature's annoying MTV-style editing that didn't allow you to get a good look at the park. The footage in the special features section was way better. If this DVD's way shorter than the official Magic Kingdom one, how long is that one?

Lol, sorry...I guess I meant to say the part on MK on the Planning DVD is way shorter than the official one. I have to watch it again to see exactly how long it is, but it seemed longer than this one. There isn't as much dialogue as the Planning DVD, but Mickey is your host and the characters (Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, Chip n' Dale) talk sometimes before they go on a ride or while they are on the ride.

Anyhow, the official MK DVD takes you through each land and through each attraction that was open at the time of the producing the DVD. I don't remember if you see a parade or not...I guess I should watch this one again.
