Animation double features

Post by azul017 »

I thought about putting it in the UltimateDisney General Discussion forum, since this is about Disney animated films. But since this is about both Disney and non-Disney animated films, like those from Pixar, Fox, Warner, Dreamworks, and Studio Ghibli, they seem more appropriate here. So, what animated films do you think would make good double features? (The two movies have to have something in common, but neither of them don't have to be from Disney.) Mine are:

- The Little Mermaid/Aladdin
Both are directed and co-written by Ron Clements and John Musker.
- Toy Story/The Polar Express
Both were technological advances in computer animation when they came out.
- Beauty and the Beast/Howl's Moving Castle
The plots are similar... but the roles are reversed somewhat.
- Aladdin/Robots
Both have characters voiced by Robin Williams.
- The Iron Giant/The Incredibles
Both are written and directed by Brad Bird.
- Beauty and the Beast/Shrek
The plots are similar.

What are your suggestions?

Alice in Wonderland/Dumbo
Colourful Walt era films.

The Rescuers/The Rescuers Down Under
One is the original, the other a great sequel.

Shrek/Shrek 2
Ditto TR/TRDU.

Toy Story/Toy Story 2
Again, sequel and original.

Bambi/Brother Bear
Similar genre of cinema (nature films), could work together well to show how animation and stories have changed over 60 or so years.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame/The Prince of Egypt
Serious stories in 2D.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs/The Little Mermaid
Like Bambi and Brother Bear, these could work together as they are both princess fairy tale films and a screening together could show evolution of animation/cinema.

Spirited Away/Peter Pan
Both fantasy stories about girl in magical places.[/b]

The Road to El Dorado/Atlantis: The Lost Empire
If not for the characters and locations, I would've thought these movies were the same.

THe Pagemaster/James and the Giant Peach
A young boy is thrown into an enchanting new world and sees it from an entirely different perspective/dimension.

Alice in Wonderland/Cats Don't Dance
Both are about little girls interacting with animals except one is seeing craziness and one is the craziness. Darla Dimple <shudders>

Stitch! The Movie or L&S the TV series / Pokemon the movie or TV series
Both are nearly the same thing. Dark haired child with cuddly side kick catching monsters or setting them free with little morphing balls while being chased by (a) bad guy(s) who also has a furry sidekick.

But Disney then re-released The Little Mermaid in 1997 solely for the purpose of taking away from Anastasia's profits. This is the poster from that re-release:

Image

It's also the re-release that inspired the old Limited Issue DVD release of the film.

Oh, thanks for the correction Disneykid. I didn't realize that there was a rerelease around that time.
