Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Pod: My Disney Podcast

Post by AwallaceUNC »

After weeks of listening to Podcasts, mostly other Disney podcasts, I decided that it's something I'd very much like to try my hand at as well. As I mention in there, there are just a couple of other Disney podcasts that are updated every once and a while, and I think there's more than enough room for another and that's where I come in!

The very first edition of my new podcast: Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Pod is now up on the web! I invite all my fellow UD-ers to be among the first to hear it here!!

Keep in mind that this is the first time that I've ever done anything like this. i set down and did it pretty much in one take. I figure I have to start somewhere, right? So go easy on me! ;) I do want your feedback, though. You can post it here, or you can email me at UponAPod@gmail.com!

I'm temporarily hosting it on my webspace that I get through my school. I have no idea what the bandwith limitations there are, but I'm told that it's decent. Hopefully it doesn't run out anytime soon. The site is very plain right now, but that's only for the time being. An automatic iPodding Subscription option will come soon too. I just wanted to get this out here and get feedback.

Don't know what podcasts are? Neither did I a few months ago. You can Google and find out all you need to know, but the gist is that they are like radio broadcasts... they can be of the talk or music variety (or a combo)... but unlike radio, you can hear them anytime you want, on your own schedule. You download them to your computer and can play them there or on your iPod or even burn them to a CD. You can also subscribe to a particular podcast so that it automatically downloads to your computer and iPod as soon as a new episode is released (that option is coming soon for mine). NOTE: You do not have to have an iPod or even iTunes to listen to this (though if you aren't using iTunes yet, you really should be!). It's a standard .mp3 file and you can listen to it just like anything else. I recommend right-clicking the link and downloading it to your hard drive and then opening it.

Hope you enjoy listening!

Thanks! Will have to free up hard drive space. That's quite the big file - no way of compressing it anymore, I suppose?

Perhaps... I'll have to wait until I'm back on my Mac and play around with it. In the meantime, I suppose you can just click the link and let it play via Quicktime in your browser so that you don't have to save it to your hard drive.

Well, I just finished it (I've got a lot of free time today so I was able to listen to it right away) and it was really good. The farewell segment to Paul Winchell and John Fiedler was nice and the music was very appropriate. There's one thing that I thought I should mention. It's not much, but I figured I should have something to comment on. When you were talking about John and Paul's deaths, the music you played during your monologue seemed to drown out your talking. I could still make out your words, but my hearing kept going back to the music. Like I said, not much, but I thought I'd mention it. I liked the DVD talk and the news of the 50th Anniversary. I'm looking forward to the next one.

I'm partially through it, and I love it so far. You've done a great job in both the technicalities and in hosting. I know I'd choke up and do a lot of ".......uhh........."s that would need to be edited out in severe chunks if I were hosting. It's nice to have a good Disney "radio station" to listen to since RadioDisney is a joke. We'll never have to worry about Hillary Duff invading your show! ;)

You haven't listened to all of it yet! ;) That was by default, though, as We Went to the Moon in 1969 wouldn't import for some reason and I needed something related to the DVD releases.

Pasta, in listening to it again, you are right. It didn't sound like it was mixed that loudly when I was recording it. These are the kind of lessons I need to learn for future shows!

Thanks much for all the compliments so far!

Knowing the hype around her, I wouldn't be surprised if she somehow found a way to. And to add to my review above, the Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Da song at the end was awesome.

Nooo! You betrayed me! :P

I have another nitpick to add, though this isn't a nitpick that'll probably affect future episodes: you misspelled "upon" when you were saying it letter by letter. you said E-P-O-N instead of U-P-O-N. Of course, I could just mishearing you. Either way, picking nits is fun. ;) Excellent job, again, all around! Do you have any idea when you'll post Episode 2?

I believe he said he would post Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Pod: Episode II - Return from the Disney World Trip...after he returns, which is like a few weeks. Might have misheard that though. Great job on it, Aaron! I'm sure that took a lot of time, and it was quite well-done.

Regarding the volume issue, the whole program seemed to be too low except for the music which then would drown you out. Yet other times, when you would be talking above the music (early on this was) I couldn't hear the music at all. Something to try and figure out, I suppose. In any event, very professional and fun to listen to!

Eek, did I? I probably just pronounced the U strangely. I had the wrong email address posted here at first too... hopefully that isnt what I said on the cast. It's uponapod@gmail.com (not onceuponapod)... anyways, all of this will be clarified in the next show. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Also to be worked on for the next show: volume mixing and file size.

Just when will this next show be, you ask? Well I had said it would be weekly which would probably put one between now and my trip to Disney. Just how strict the 'weekly' schedule will be though is yet to be determined. I'll do another as soon as I can, but I need to work out a few kinks (and work on the webspace and getting a subscription up and running) and hopefully get some input from other people to use in the next show too. I'll post it here when the next one is done! :)

Great job Aaron! :thumb:

I'm very excited to hear the other editions. And if I think of any ways to improve the show, I'll send them to you.

I think I've decided that the next show will be on around 7/4 (hopefully) and so the topic will be Disney & America. If you woudl like to share some knowledge or insight on this topic that you may have, please email me, or even if you'd like to talk about your thoughts on the topic. Any input is welcome! :)

I liked it Aaron. Pretty good for a first time. I found it to be a little slow at times and you had a little flux with the volumes of music and speech. Other than that it was great! :)

I managed to shave off about 9 MBs of the file size of the first show, so now I seem to be in the same file size neighborhood of other podcasts. The smaller-sized version is now on the site.

Also, there's now an RSS Feed for the show. Just use the link from the website to subscribe to the show with iPodder or whatever aggregator (or is it aggregater?... not in the dictionary!) you're using, and it'll download directly to your iTunes and then to your iPod the next time you synch up!

Thanks for the feedback, Paul. And hooray for your return! May it not be short-lived! :D
