The Three Musketeers was a movie made direct-to-video. You'll be glad to find out that this is just a fresh, fun take on the original story, and is not by any means a sequel. It wasn't made by feature animation Disney, thus not a part of the classic line-up.

At one point it was supposed to be released to theatres. However, then the Brother Bear/Wal-mart effect happened.

What happened was that Wal-mart and other retailers have a rule about what theatrical movies get prime retail space - it had to have $100 million in north american ticket sales. What happened was brother bear ended up at about $85 million and so did not get the prime retail space.

Disney could actually get better retail space for the DVD by not releasing it to theatres.
