Treasure Planet DVD issues

Post by Doug »

Recently I watched my TP DVD for the first time. I counted 4 different times that movie had a little "glitch" in it. You know where the sound stops and the and picture freezes, often happening on chapter switches. This is a fairly common thing for me. But never 4 times in during one show, not to mention a 90 minute show.

Just wondering if any one else had any thing like this happen with the DVD. FYI, my DVD player is rather old, it's a gen 1 Sony.

I hate to say it, but if it is a gen 1 player, it is most likely your player. I have a gen 2 Toshiba player and I sometimes have troubles with it. If you have access to another DVD player, I recommend testing it out on there.

It sounds like the loader is going bad. When you open up the player, do you see a 40-pin ATAPI cable that connects the loader to your mother board? If so, you could probably replace the loader with a new computer DVD-ROM loader and you would be back in business.

Thanks for the replies guys. I figured it would be my DVD player. It is something I've seen happen occasionly ever since I got it. Maybe it's time for that 5 disc pro scan...I know I won't notice the difference on my 27", but just maybe someday I will be able to put it to work.

TLK, do you know where I could pick up one of these loaders and about how much one goes for?

It would work ONLY if you have a 40-pin ATAPI ribbon cable that connects your SONY loader to the players mother board...

CompUSA
Staples
Office Max
Office Depot
Best Buy
Circuit City
Radio Shack

are the stores that pop into mind when looking for an IDE DVD-ROM drive. They cost about $30-60. See:

The player is different than yours, but the principles are the same.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea the inside of a DVD player could be like that. So we are just talking about a standard IDE cable? I'm sure I have one around the house here if that's the case. I'll have to open that old beast up and see what i've got in there, that is if I can ever get my tail away from this pc...
