Know what I'd like to see...? (A Documentary on Disney Co.)

I'd love to see a documentary on the Disney company. Including everything from Snow White to Disneyland to Mary Poppins to Magic Kingdom & Epcot to Little Mermaid to MGM Studios to Toy Story to Animal Kingdom, California Adventure, etc etc etc.

Including the history of Disney films, theme parks, tv shows, shorts, and influence on pop culture.

Disc 1 - 1930's - 1940's
Disc 2 - 1950's - 1960's
Disc 3 - 1970's - 1980's
Disc 4 - 1990's - Today

Make a great set, don't you think?

I would also like to see a documentary, but of a different variety. Pretty much every major DVD release has what you would call a documentary on the film, and there's been some releases regarding certain aspects/people of the Walt Disney Company. Most theatrical documentaries are the archtype of the one you're talking about, very informational. I'd like a documentary focusing on a specific area, dark and gritty, esposing an edgier side of things that we haven't seen. I like documentaries with an authorial voice, almost an equivalent to non-fiction literature. The documentaries in the running for Oscars each year are good examples of that.

That would be awesome. I loved the "Disney Through the Decades" feature on Snow White's DVD, and would love to see something like that but with more depth and less gloss. I know for sure I'd pick it up if it was ever released. The inevitable section of the Disney Channel will bring back to many memories (heck, the quick blip on it on the Snow White DVD did so).

I wish they'd release DVD's of the various Disney documentaries I grew up on. They may be a little glossy, but they're a big reason behind why I got so interested in Disney at a young age.

I'd be up for any Disney documentary. I still need to get the current ones that are out but they are very hard to find offline, where I can buy them.
I like the idea of Disney by the Decade but I also like the idea of having just doucmentaries focusing on topics such as a documentary on all of the theme parks or ididual theme parks, one on live-action movies, one on animation, one on merchandise/collectibles.

Hmmm... now that I thinka bout it I would be happy with the Walt Disney documentary, The Frank and Ollie one, one on Disneyland, one on DisneyWorld, one on the International theme parks, the Disney by Decade documentary focusing on everything, one featuring other animators or periods of animation, and one on the worldy appeal of Disney taking a look at Disney from many parts of the world and how it affects other cultures and how they percieve the house of mouse.

Yes but Walt is just about his life and how he started Disney - right? Not about the Disney Company's history.

And the Frank & Ollie is only about their work on their films - nothing recent and doesn't include all of them.

I may still purchase the Frank & Ollie, however.

A documentary on Walt Disney could be on his life only. If so, they wouldn't go in-depth on each film he oversaw but would merely mention it or scratch the surface. As for the theme park, it wouldn't go in-depth on this neither. Only show Walt's vision and how he did it.

A documentary on the Walt Disney Company would barely go into Walt's life at all. However, it would go project by project and include Walt's vision and how he did it, in-depth, for all films/theme parks.

I know what I want to know about Walt Disney. I don't want a documentary talking about his father, his grandfather, his family, his growing up, etc. I want to know about the Company, and if it includes Walt's starting it (as it should) then great!

well there are documentaries on each of the films, they are quite in-depth and exist as bonus features on the many platinum releases.

there are documentaries on the parks as well, on the treasures discs, and the theme park exclusives.

theres also documentaries tracking the start of the company and hpw it was built up by Disney and his brother.

you can't make a documentary film about so many different broad and general topics. It needs to have some focus or direction in detail.

basically everything youve asked foir exists if you know where to look. If you were to edit together all the making-of's, behind thge scenes and docus from the many movie releases, you'd probably have the most thorough 10+ hour documentary on every possible aspect of the disney company and their features and shorts produced.

If you got somebody to talk for 2 minutes about each of the classic features, you'd already have a running time of over 40 minutes. plus archival footage and seperate interviews, etc. it'd be nearly impossible to string together what you're asking for.

youcan tack on whatever extra elements you want if you dig deep enough, but these docus all exist in pretty comprehensive form.

Actually, I watched Walt: The Man Behind the Myth last night (and it was amazing). It did talk about Walt as a person and how he grew up but there was a ton of information that I didn't know about the company itself and it did talk a lot about the animators and the animated features Walt worked on, the starting of Disneyland etc.

If you want to know all you can (and watch all that is currently available) about the Walt Disney Company, I do think that this film would be a central part of that.

I also agree that a film primarily on the company that goes from the beginning and into the 21st century would be wonderful (and incredibly LONG)!!!
