Animaniacs appreciation thread
I am all excited today as I went to my local Big Lots store and stumbled upon a sealed VHS of Wakko's Wish. I had never gotten around to buying it, so imagine my delight when I saw that it was only $0.88!!!
So I looked here and saw that there were no threads specifically about Animaniacs. I miss this show a lot. I think t was one of the best of its era and it's too bad that it still hasn't made it to DVD. I was wondering what other people here liked about it.
What were your favorite segments and characters? Does anyone here think there was a bit of inspiration from Roger Rabbit? How many of you guys remember watching it?

I wish it would come to DVD. I really liked this show when I was a kid, but every time it came on, I would be like "Oh, it's just this. I'll flip around, and if there isn't anything else on, I'll watch this." I took it for granted. But I saw Wakko's Wish recently, and now I want it to come back on TV badly. All those wasted years watching Disney!

I'm a pretty big 'Animaniacs' fan and I can't understand why it hasn't been on DVD yet in some form. There hasn't even been a single disc best of release!
I've seen 'Wakko's Wish' a few times. They play it on TV in Canada occassionally although the series in my area hasn't graced the airwaves in years.
My favourite segments were 'Pinky & the Brain' and I loved their own show especially because it was in primetime on Sundays at 7 (or 7:30). Back then we had WB's KTLA and since that was 3 hours behind I got to see 'Pinky and the Brain' again during the 10pm hour. Ah that was great.
Seriously the WB needs to release some of their classics on DVD like 'Tiny Toon Adventures', 'Animaniacs' and 'Freakazoid!'
I think there was some inspiration from Roger Rabbit. Roger Rabbit is as zany as Yakko Wakko and Dot.
It sure would be nice to see Tiny Toon and Animaniacs characters return in a show so they don't fade away. Plus I'm all for the return of The Looney Tunes.... a proper return. I haven't seen many of their new shorts but I've heard they are dreadful.

I think my favorite segments were Pinky and the Brain, but they were followed closely by the Warners and Slappy Squirrel. I also enjoyed the outings with Chicken Boo and Kati Kaboom.
Although the idea of "toons" interacting with people had happened before, I think Roger Rabbit really made people want to explore the idea. In Tiny Toons, they totally acknowledged that they were merely cartoon characters, much more than the characters in the old classic shorts ever did. I think Animaniacs expanded upon that even further. Even though it's all a cartoon, the Warners are clearly toons in a human world. I don't know why, but I've always loved this concept.
I also miss Freakazoid, which was sort of a cross between Animaniacs and Batman TAS. It's one of my favorite shows of all time, actually.
I'm not sure if it's true, but I've heard that Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, and Freakazoid have yet to see any DVD releases because of Steven Speilburg's involvement with them.

That's a little strange. Why would he not want them released? Or, why would his people not want them released?Sunset Girl wrote:I'm not sure if it's true, but I've heard that Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, and Freakazoid have yet to see any DVD releases because of Steven Speilburg's involvement with them.
I forgot about Pinky and the Brain and Slappy Squirrel. I loved Slappy's wise-guy attitude. I would laugh so hard when she would go up to someone and go: "You remind me of a very young insert name of famous person here". The way she said it was just hilarious.

Yeah, that's something that confuses me as well, but maybe they're having trouble coming to an agreement or something.Pasta67 wrote:That's a little strange. Why would he not want them released? Or, why would his people not want them released?
Heh, my favorite Slappy line was when she approached some guy she liked, saying, "You remind me of a very mature Johnny Quest."
I'm still surprised over some of the gags they got away with on that show, like when she attempted to hatch the egg!

That still makes me giggle in a 4th grade boy sort of way (even though I'm a girl

It's time for AAAAAAAAAAAANIMAAAAAAAAANIACS...
Yakko was always my favorite of the Warner Brothers (and the Warner Sister!). The cartoon I'll always remember of them was when they went to a garage sale...and ended up buying the actual garage for 28 cents!
Gawd, I think my favorite non-Warner Brothers (and Sister!) segments would always be Slappy Squirrel and her ever-optimistic-it's-annoying nephew...Skippy?
Remember when they saw "Bumbi" in the theaters and Skippy got so distressed over the mother dying that Slappy took him to see the actress that played the mother? And we meet this old husky-voiced deer who Skippy doesn't believe is Bumbi's mother until she does the scene again. Then on the plane home, they watch "Old Yellow".
I also liked the Mindy and Buttons sketch, and felt sorry for that dog everytime he got in trouble.
Goodfeathers were rather dull for me, I didn't like watching those cartoons.
Rita the Bernadette-Peters-sounding cat was good too, though I can't remember the name of the dog she traveled with.
The short Chicken Boo and Katie Kaboom sketches were good. So was the kid who'd come out and talk quickly for a minute, then go " 'kay bye", and run back inside his house.
I vaguely remember a recurring character that was some type of mink or something...she was rather snobbish and there was a cartoon where she fell for a werewolf (who was nerdy when he wasn't under the full moon and studly when he was).
And maybe I'm mixing things up, but was there ever a series that had Elmira (of Tiny Toons) and Pinky and the Brain as her pets? Good synergy if there really was a series.

Yay! Animaniacs fans unite!
BTW. . .
Rita's co-star was Runt.
The snobby Mink character was named Minerva. Yeah, I also loved the episode where she fell in love with the werewolf, I think his name was Wendell or something.
And yes, there was at least one segment of Elmyra with Pinky an the Brain. I'm not sure if it was a one-shot or some sort of short-lived spin-off or what, though.
Ah, those were the days. . . man, I should have taped them all!

I don't remember that, but the other day I was just thinking about the one where Wakko buys out the entire dollar store for a dollar because the clerk says that everything's a dollar. I have no idea why, though.Escapay wrote:The cartoon I'll always remember of them was when they went to a garage sale...and ended up buying the actual garage for 28 cents!
Oh, and I believe Bernadette Peters really was the voice of Rita.

Oh Man! I forgot all about the Goodfeathers. That was one of my favorite mini cartoons. I remember one quote that made me love that cartoon. It was when their statue was taken away for some reason and it went something like this:Escapay wrote:Goodfeathers were rather dull for me, I didn't like watching those cartoons.
"Hey, what happened to our statue?"
"Oh, they took that down and replaced it with a huge statue of Regis Philbin."
Then the camera slowly pans back so that we see a completely random Regis statue. It was the most random thing I'd ever seen and I remember being on my floor laughing my head off. I miss that show.
Now that you mention it, I do remember that, but I don't think it was on every episode like the others were.I vaguely remember a recurring character that was some type of mink or something...she was rather snobbish and there was a cartoon where she fell for a werewolf (who was nerdy when he wasn't under the full moon and studly when he was).

I'm remembering so much stuff thanks to you all. I vaguely remember a cartoon where there were animals in a forest and there was this really hot chick that was there, but that's all that I remember from that cartoon. Maybe you guys can spark my memory? I also remember the two fat hippos. They weren't that funny, but they cameoed in "Noah's Lark", which wins my award for the funniest cartoon put on that show.

The "hot chick" you're thinking of was Minerva Mink. Now that I think of it, she was pretty racy for a kids show.Pasta67 wrote: I vaguely remember a cartoon where there were animals in a forest and there was this really hot chick that was there, but that's all that I remember from that cartoon. The Hippos ROCKED. I don't remember their names, but I like the episode when they are on a cruise and the woman hippo loses her diamond. They search the entire ship when they realize she sat on it and it's stuck on her bottom!
