The most overrated Disney theme park attraction

Post by Timon/Pumbaa fan »

I got this idea when we I was saying Mission Space is alot better then Test Track. So what do you think is the most overrated Disney attraction. Here are my top 4:

1. Fantasmic
2. Test Track
3. Illuminations
4. Peter Pan's Flight

:o I'm honestly floored by these. But I guess you wouldn't call them "overrated" if it wasn't for the fact that most people love them.

1. Fantasmic is definitely MGM's best attraction, imo, and one of the best in all of Walt Disney World.

2. Test Track is up there among Future World's shining stars. If it only went around the track a few more times, it would be the perfect ride.

3. I've seen my fair share of firework shows, and none have topped IllumiNATIONS. Are you saying that as a firework show, it's overrated? Or compared to other rides and shows? Or just in general?

4. Peter Pan's Flight is a classic and one of my favorites as well. But hey, to each his own! :D

I personally don't think any of the attractions are overrated...oh, yes, I just changed my mind.

No offense to Mr. Toad, but Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is very much overrated. I can't believe that it outlasted Peter Pan's Flight.

He actually likes Peter Pan better than Mr. Toad, but he was willing to make Mr. Toad the king of dark Rides.

But I still hate how they got rid of Mr. Toad at Disneyworld! It was like the coolest ride! These pictures sum up my feelings:

I don't think any of the rides at Disneyworld are overrated. Disneyworld goes above and beyond to create there rides and they are each very special and unique. I love them all. I feel the same way about the firework shows. They are like nothing you have ever seen before.

I do miss the Mr. Toad ride  and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea

None of the attractions that I've experienced jump out at me as overrated, either. Underrated? Definitely.

The Pooh picture is hilarious. I actually really like Pooh's ride (but someone turn on the A/C in there!!). Then again, I never got to ride Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (or 20KL either). :(

I personally found Big Thunder Mountain to be a bit overrated. At Disneyland Paris, the queues can go up to 2 hours, and all that the ride is is a fairly fast train. It's not terrible, just overrated.

Completely off topic here, but I personally find the Pinocchio dark ride to be completely underrated. Most seem to dub this the worst dark ride, but I think it's the best. :)

Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise, Body Wars, Universe of Energy, and Star Tours are all terribly overrated, but none more so than the new Journey into Imagination ride. Worst. Revamp. Ever.

And they need to bring back Kitchen Kabaret. Most underrated attraction ever.

I found Space Mountain to be overrated. After waiting in line for 3 hours (before the fast past system existed), I was extremely dissappointed with the ride.

1. Fantasmic is boring. It was just a bunch of edited movie clips and a bunch of characters waving at the audience.

2. Test Track would've been a great ride if the ending wasn't bad. It just didn't feel "fast" to me and the lines are outrageous!

3. Illuminations is okay, but nothing compared to Wishes!

4. Peter Pan is very overrated. You wait in very long lines to ride a flying experience that lasts 30 seconds. I still can't believe this is here, but Mr. Toad is gone!

Actually the edited movie clips (which are very well-edited in a way that brings classic Disney animation together into a "family of films" feelign and weave them into a clever storyline) make up a small portion. And they are also projected onto moving water and mist which is a pretty cool effect if you ask me. And there's newly animated material in there as well.

Characters wave at the audience at the beginning and end. In the middle, which is the action of the show, there's no interaction with the audience (not that interaction's a bad thing).

It's a combination of lasers, fireworks, animation, image-projection, parade, water pageant, pyrotechnics, park characters, music, and more. Each of these things carry complete attractions on their own. They are each at their best in Fantasmic and are still combined into one show. It's what Disney parks are all about. What more could you ask for? Maybe you had a bad seat (Disney claims they are all the same view, and while technically they are, there's a huge difference in experience in terms of proximity).

Well it actually is the fastest ride in Disney park history. I agree though, it ends way too soon. The lines are especially problematic here, thanks to how often it breaks down, but that's what Fastpass is for!
Timon/Pumba fan wrote:3. Illuminations is okay, but nothing compared to Wishes!
I do think Wishes is almost on par with Illuminations (which is a first for Magic Kingdom... at least that I've seen). But it's strength is in experience- the music and all that is great in Wishes. I think that the actual fireworks themselves in IllumiNATIONS are superior... and the whole globe on fire thing is great!

I seriously doubt Peter Pan will ever leave. It's a huge crowd-getter, and Toad wasn't at the time of its departure. However, the lines aren't always too terrible. You've probably just gone at bad times. But still, there's Fast Pass on this one. It's also not really fair to judge something on line time. Of course a really popular ride is going to have really long lines... the same is true for the mountains. The ride quality isn't any greater or lesser because of how long it took to get on there. To its credit, Pan is a pretty fast-loading ride. It actually lasts over 3 minutes in length, which is pretty long for a Fantasyland dark ride (or Disney rides in general)!

Illuminations. I hate that thing. No offense to anyone. I also really think that the Rock 'N Rollercoaster is WAY over rated. I know some people who hate Arosmith, and hate the ride because of that

I like Aerosmith but found the ride disappointing. Maybe because it was indoors, but I did not think it was nearly as good as say California Screamin.

Finally I have one... Body Wars! It's outdated and was never any good to begin with. I'm fine on Star Tours but that one throws my stomach for a loop. I don't ride it anymore. I think it's boring, disgusting, and poorly made.

I loooove R'NRC and Aerosmith too!

I agree. My tummy did flip flops on this one too. Prob the only attraction I left feeling queezy. I would say the same goes for Star Wars though-the older simulators are more rough.

My all time most fav attraction is Fantasmic.
Followed by Test Track, Philharmagic, Thunder, Millionaire, & Wishes.

I just thought of another one:Kilimanjaro Safaris! The animal selection was rather poor IMO. Even my Mom who LOVES animals agreed that this ride was unimpressive.

This puzzles me as well. They've got pretty much any animal you can ask for on the savannah, which is itself the size of the Magic Kingdom. Of course animals are free-roaming and they don't stay beside the cars all day, and they also sleep. So your mileage may vary. In general, early morning rides are the best, because that's when the most animals are out and near the feeding troughs. I've ridden it and gotten great animal encounters... other times just ok. It's still a top-rate ride in my opinion... and I don't even like animals!

I agree with Aaron that Body Wars is pretty bad. It's just ... gross. My first time riding it (I was 7 or so), I actually thought we were going to be shrunk down and be taken inside someone's body. My parents had to calm me down a little. I think the Wonders of Life pavillion in general is pretty lame. In fact, many of the Future World attractions don't live up to their standards. The last time I saw The Living Seas, it was pretty bleak, and The Land isn't so great either.

As for Test Track, the last time I went to Disney World, we got to ride it three times in a row because it was such a bother getting my friend's sister out of her wheelchair and into the ride and back out again.

 I love how things seem so larger than life to kids at Disney World. It was the same for me.

The only thing I've done in WoL is Body Wars and the Fitness Fairgrounds/shows in the middle of the building. Some of the other things (Making of Me, Cranium Command) sound great, but I don't really know first-hand. It could definitely use some new wonder... and new life.

I'm with you on the Living Seas too, although I don't know that I gave it a fair chance when I was there. I also skipped it the last three times I was there, so I haven't gone inside it since the Nemo overlay (of which there is more to overcome), so I'm hoping that has spiced it up some.

The only thing I've done in The Land is Living with the Land, which was a tad bit dry but I enjoyed it overall. The other stuff looked like a snooze-fest, but again I really can't say first-hand (but I'll be able to after this summer... my mission is to once and for all do everything at Disney World... I've come close in a much smaller window of time). Of course they now have Soarin' in the Land Pavilion and have given the whole building a refurb inside and made a few changes. From what I hear, it's been well-received, so hopefully that's made a difference.

So basically I guess I agree with you on Future World in general. I like most of the things there, but it's lost some of the feel that it had 10 years ago, and that' just due to a lack of attention to things like theming and maintenance. Fortunately, the officially-nonexistent-but-obviously-in-practice Project Gemini has the potential to turn that around. (The rumors I hear are mostly encouraging... and the current conversion of Ice Station Cool sounds, well, cool). I'm also hoping that Epcot's approaching 25th anniversary will be enough to get Future World the little push that it needs to be restored to greatness. World Showcase could maybe use something, but they are more or less in good shape over there.

One thing in Future World that I do absolutely love is Ellen's Energy Adventure. There's a bombardment of rumors that it will be going away in within a couple of years (once WoL is ready to open up full-time again and take UoE's place while Ellen is gutted). I hope that doesn't turn out to be the case! :(
