Popular Versions of Disney Songs Through the Years

Post by gaysnappercarr »

I've tried to respond to the Once Upon (Another) Dream thread but I kep gettin an invalid session message so I thought I'd try starting a new topic.

One thing I think we have to keep in mind is that popular music artists have always covered Disney songs to fit their era's sound.

The excellent CD Zip-A-Dee Doo-Dah (Sony/Legacy CK48643) features songs from Snow White through Peter Pan (1937 - 1953) as performed by artists like Artie Shaw, Kate Smith, Gene Krupa, Dinah Shore, and Rosemary Clooney. Back in the day, these were the popular artists who remade the Disney songs to fit into their style. I love heaing these (sometimes VERY) different interpretations

Today we have pop acts like No Secrets, Jump 5, A*Teens, Lonnie Gordon, Smash Mouth and Play who are doing something very similar - introducing Disney music to their fans who might like what they hear, and watch the original source material!

Granted, it can be rightfully argued that the pop music of today is radically different in terms of talent or craftsmanship than the music of the 40's and 50's, but it IS the popular music that is being embraced by the youth culture of today.

Honestly, I'd prefer a 'double-shot' approach. Perhaps having the Anastacia and Barbra Streisand versions of 'Someday My Prince Will Come' on the same DVD, as i like them both equally! Even branching out into the worlds of Jazz, Country and R&B would be cool to listen to!

LOL - I can't be the only one who likes the No Secrets video and the incredible Grand Canyon featurette!

You think No Secrets are Europop? I'm telling you, you haven't heard Europop until you hear this!

(I may upload some of these MP3's to my webspace this weekend and make them available for downloading)
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I like the songs from Disney DDR, especially When You Wish Upon A Star and It's A Small World. :D I find this rather ironic considering I'm not fond of the teeny bopper pop crap Disney's been putting out recently. I guess I just like Europop better than Ameripop. ;)

I wouldnt' compare Dinah Shore, Rosemary Clooney or Gene Krupa to such garbage as Jump 5, Play and what ever other teeny crap there is now a days. The first 3 ladies were REAL singers unlike the latter....... :)

Well, yes that was sort of my point. Stop complaining because (1) you don't have to watch them and (2) they could be worse. A lot worse. The DDR Remixes prove that.

I would assume that they fit the nature of the game though, which after all is what they were written for, so I'm not being too hard on the DDR Remixes.

I like Once Upoun (Another) Dream more than those, but they serve a purpose, to entertain those who like them, anyway just wanted to say that.
