I take it from your reaction that you've never been to Miami.

Surprised at Knick Knack revision

Post by Peter Pan »

I remember seeing this short on my toy story laserdisc box set. All the shorts that pixar produced were included on this set. The toy box dvd set which i have only has a few of these shorts so i was disappointed that they left some out.

When i saw the incrtedibles in the theater i was surprised to see the revised version of knick knack, first thing i noticed.

Oh well what can you do

The Incredibles did not have the Knick Knack short, it had the one with the Lamb. Bounding.

Well, I can see now why the censored it. Those are huge. I think it was a wise and appropriate decision made by Disney. Although I'm not in favor of changing original versions, I do believe that with this short being shown to many children it was a smart move.

A DVD with all of the shorts would be awesome. They could all have commentaries and "making-of" features. I bet they will eventually. Maybe once they release Cars they will put all of the Disney/Pixar movies together in one box with a bonus DVD that has all the shorts on it. How cool would that be?

Does Disney own the distribution rights to the Pixar shorts that accompanied their feature films as well?

I don't think Disney made the decision. They certainly didn't make the modification, since the files would have been in Pixar's computers, not Disney's. I've heard that the change may have been done to secure the G rating necessary to match <i>Finding Nemo</i>'s G. Would the original short not have received a G? Do they give out "Rated PG for Exaggerated Breast Size"?

That's a good question and one I've never been able to figure out. Surely, I'd imagine they own rights to <i>Mike's New Car</i> and <i>Jack-Jack Attack</i>, as the Walt Disney Pictures logo appears at their start, right? I'm sure Disney and Pixar have some sort of agreement on the others, probably since it makes sense for Pixar to want a short in front, and Disney has nothing to lose by agreeing to it. I'd think that the shorts are still Pixar's property, but that they would need a distributor and as they already have the deal with Disney, they probably just run with that. Would they be able to release all their shorts (with the exception of the first two) on their own or with another studio they set up a distribution deal with? I'd think so, but I'm not sure.

Well here in the UK there was a VHS released here called 'Tiny Toy Stories' which features Knick Knack, Red's Dream, The Adventures of Andre and Wally B, Tin Toy and Luxo jr. Which by the way has the short Knick Knack unedited.

I don't know if this was released anywhere else?

Back to my point. On the spine of the VHS it has 'Disney Videos' however on the front of the cover where in the case of Toy Story etc where it says Walt Disney/Pixar presents Toy Story, on this VHS it only says 'Pixar presents Tiny Toy Stories'.

So while Disney have certainly distributed all of Pixar's shorts here in the UK, the lack of the Disney name means it seems as though they remain Pixar's property.

I actually got the Finding Nemo DVD recently, partly cos the shop was having a 75% off closing sale ( :o ) and partly because it had the Knick Knack short on it. Of course the first thing I think when watching it was "hold on, wasn't the bikini girl's breasts a lot larger?". Glad to see I'm not the only one noticing that. Pity.

It was shown originally on UK TV sometime during 1990 I believe as part of some show (might have even been Rolf's Cartoon Time for those UK peeps here). That's how I came to see it before... guess I'll be looking for that VHS release now ;)

Edited version of "Knick Knack"?

Post by Trumpet Joe »

I read somewhere that when "Knick Knack" was shown in theaters before Finding Nemo, it was "edited". My question is what did they have to edit out of it?

Methinks they toned down the swimsuit model's CGI boobies.

It's not because Pixar thinks that women should be ashamed of their bodies, but the whole idea of a man going after the woman because of her breast size.
.....is very sexy! :)

I'm kinda ashamed for edit. Since it's not really harming or anyway demoralizing the short. again it's a short not a feature length movie so I don't see the watse in editing anyway.

Funny thing is, When I went to Muesum of Modern Art one time, they had a big Pixar exhibit and they showed that clip....unedited. yet there were kids and parent watching it and had no problem with it. In fact they were laughing. I think the thing is was that because Pixa is with Disney and Disney has to be in tie with the "family oriented" they just want ti be caeful anyway. I find it a little over stressing and overexgerating wht the reaction might be.

I think Knick Knack should be issued uncensored. I NEVER took this film to be about breats. It was just part of the character design. Besides, They released the uncensored version on VHS in 1996 and had no problem with families viewing it then.

What else is on the Toy Story LD set that wasn't on the DVD?

Funny, I could have sworn I saw the busty Sunny Miami doll in the theater...

But we've done big boobs jokes, haven't we? I mean, Jessica Rabbit was pretty darn sexy (then again, I wouldn't show that movie to a little kid on account of its creepiness). From an early age kids pick up that big boobs (and hourglass figure, if you watch a lot of old cartoons)=vavavoom, even if they don't entirely grasp it. That's how, even if I didn't get the sex jokes as a kid, I knew Jessica was supposed to be hot hot hot. Look at Barbie.

Knick Knacks get the breasts taken out of them

Post by Disney Duster »

Maybe Pixar didn't want to send the message: "Hey little girls! You better hope you have big breasts when you're older so men will do anything to get to you!"

Shouldn't it be more like: "Hey little girls! You better hope you have big breasts when you're older so Snowmen will do anything to get to you!"?
