101 DalmatiAns (censorship in upcoming PE?)

Post by bennyb98 »

Ok, I just had a terrible thought, what if Disney (in an attempt to be PC) goes ahead and chops up 101 to remove Roger's smoking??

I hope this is just a nightmare of mine and not something they might actually do.

They would never do that to 101 Dalmations, although they may do it to 101 Dalmatians! ;)

Also the previous DVD was uncut, as were previous VHS releases so I would say we're safe.

Plus, one must remember that this is one of their major animated classics releases. If you look at the pattern, aside from Fantasia, only a few of the package features have been edited. If they were going to edit 101 Dalmatians for content, would they have erased all the racial charicatures in Peter Pan? Would they have edited the smoking in Alice in Wonderland and Pinocchio? Exactly...

101 Dalmations PE

I've only done the specs for Disc 2.

Disc 2

Deleted Scenes

* Dalmatian Sneeze
A one-second animated outake of one of the Dalmatian puppies sneezing!
Use the angle button on your remote to switch between Storyboard, Pencil Animation and final Animation.

* Dalmatian Burp
A one-second animated outake of one of the Dalmatian puppies burping. Use the angle button on your remote to switch between Storyboard, Pencil Animation and final Animation.

Backstage Disney

* The Art Behind the Movie
Watch a Disney animator draw 101 Dalmatians in Real Time. Gasp! as he looses count after the 39th puppy. Worry! as he constantly rubs his eyes after the 53rd. Laugh! as he is repeatedly prodded to stay awake after the 78th. Applaude! as he finally finishes his task, and is carted away in a straight-jacket gibbering about puppes, spots and the monster that lives in his pencil. Smile as you realise it's one more animator off the Disney payroll.

* The Story Behind the Movie
Learn how 101 Dalmatians was originally something called a book, before Disney decided to totally change the story while giving original author Dodie Smith the finger - after all, Disney always knows best. Disney always knows best.

* The Improvement of the Movie
See how Disney were always unhappy with the animated 101 Dalmatians. After all, it was animated. And Disney hates animation now. Especially Eisner. He hates all animation and animators. He only joined Disney to destroy it's animation divisions. Unless they are computer generated. Or Cheapquels. Then he loves them. Anyhow, see how Eisner improved the film in 1996 by making a live action version. The live action version rocked. (101 Dalmatians Live Action is available for purchase on Walt Disney Home Video BUY IT NOW!)

* The Selling of the Movie
See how Disney justify not including any trailers of any of the film's release or rereleases on this disc (we don't have to sell it any more, you dopes have already bought it). They will however include a trailer for Chicken Little, Cars, A Day with Wilbur Robinson and even ABC1 Saturday Mornings.

Music and More

* All-New Cruella De Vil Music Video
Dr John has done and awesome recording of Cruella De Vil. It's fantastic. Everybody at Walt Disney Home Video loves it. That's why we're including an all-new Disney Circle of Stars recording instead - it's too good for you snotty nosed brats. (Hey brats, Hiliary Duff sings one word in the Circle of Stars video!)

* There is no "more"
Like most "Music and More" menu options on EasyFind discs, there is no actual "More".

Fun and Games

* Count the Dots set-top game
Count the number of dots displayed on the screen in a contantly shifting pattern. Don't worry if you begin to halucinate little red devils poking you in the eyes with their firery tridents. This is perfectly normal.

* Clean up after the Puppies set-top game.
None of the 99 puppies at the Dalmatian Plantation are house trained. Now, using your virtual shovel and tray, clean up after the puppies. Hurry, if you take to long to clean the room, the puppies will only begin to make a mess again.

* Disneypedia
With entries on:
* * What happens to Cruella's lungs when she smokes her cigerettes?
* * What happens to Roger's throat when he smokes his pipe?
* * What is passive smoking?
* * Does smoking make you look cool?
* * Does smoking make you look mature?
* * Why would anyone want to smoke anyway?
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Editing classics is offensive.

Walkie-talkies instead of guns in ET; Hayden Christensen in Return of the Jedi; it's just awful.

Some more bonus features:

Dog's dinner: A sneak peak at 103 Dalmatians: Lucky gets Lucky

Take a sneak peak into Disney Toon Studios most controvertial project to date, as for the first time in cinema history dalmatian sex has been animated! Join all your favourite characters as Cruella De Vil clones herself 71 times, and requires 103 dalmatians in order to be able to upholster her couch! Join the dalmatians as they escape her mad plan!

The Dog's Bollocks

Did you know that 101 Dalmatians was set in a mythical land called England? Take a look at this featurette which gives you all you'll need to know about British slang

Gone to the Dogs

Since 1961 Disney has started to churn out DTV sequels and shut down rides at Disneyland. Look at how the Disney studios has become the laughing stock of the animation world thanks to Belle's Magical World and Tarzan and Jane. Also for the first time on DVD the video footage of Michael Eisner's public excecution.

If any non brits understood any of those titles, give yourself a brownie point! ;)

I don't think many people here would understand what a brownie point is!

[Beavis and Butthead laugh] Heh, that catepillar was smoking from a bong...[/Beavis and Butthead laugh]

I don't think they'd bother trying to cut that stuff out. Although why they're releasing Lady and the Tramp on PE before 101 Dalmtians is a crime to me. :cry: Me wants to own the PE of 101D so badly.

What about all the drinking in Fantasia? And the nude centuar-ettes? The drinking and smoking in Pinchocchio? The clowns, Timothy and Dumbo drinking? The catipillar smoking from a bong?

Most of what I just listed were in the ORIGINAL stories. Carol wrote about a catipillar who smoked from a bong and wow, Disney animated it, so yes, let's all hit Disney for censorship! Dionysus (sp?) was the God of Wine, so um yeah, he'd be a drunken fool for the most part.
How many people still smoke pipes anyways? That was a sign of the times. Let it stay!

They might include a program about smoking and the fact that it was considered all right or even a desirable thing to do decades ago. Leonard Maltin could tell us that it's a sign of its times and how much further we've come today.

My God chaychay and bennyb98! Can't you write one sentence posts without quoting (between the two of you twice!) a full post that we all have read already that's a mile long? Basically what you're doing is wasting probably 20 TIMES the bandwith for your skimpy simple sentences "commentaries". And chaychay this is not the first time i've mentionied this to you. Editing one post and then keeping on doing it on subsequent posts is not what i meant :headshake: . Learn to make quotes.

I know I'm nit-picking here but could someone please edit the title of this thread to spell Dalmatians correctly?
