Oh yeah I know exactly what you're talking about! And yes it is unfortunate what their current way of thinking about marketing and milking products for all their worth. I mean, Eisner stated they are doing a Nemo sequel just because it was a success (can't believe he said that when their Pixar deal is up in the air!)
Atlantis was the same way...until it bombed and the sequel and series were canned.
Exactly!
Wait a sec... are they really goin' 2 do a sequel??? oh god no! :o
where did u hear this?
oh... and by the way... fo u know when is the disney/pixar contract finally gonna be over? :? :?

Uggh...that reminds me of that one stupid remark Eisner said of Brother Bear: "Brother Bear is in the Lion King realm because it has talking animals, we shall see if it is in the Lion King realm in terms of talking bankers." Dude I want to slap that jerk for saying something like this! What a one track minded a$$!!!
:jawdrop: r u serious?? who is this Eisner prick anyhow?! and how in gods name do they let him speak in public???

:headshake: its just terrible!

I will gladly be another to jump to the defense of Lilo & Stitch. I think fondly of the movie as the best Disney animated feature since The Lion King.

It was a departure from the traditional Disney mold in several ways, not the least of which is the fact that it is set in a very easily defined modern setting and time period. They also allowed the characters to be inperfect - look at the slightly odd and off-base Lilo, or Nani struggling with the dual role of mother figure and sister, or Stitch himself and his total 180-degree change in personality throughout the course of the movie.

But in many ways it is as much a return to form for Disney as it is a departure. For the first time in many years they told a very sweet, accessable story that anyone can enjoy (as opposed to Atlantis, Pocahontas, and Hunchback of Notre Dame, which broke away from the traditional family audience with teen-and-adult-themed plots) with wonderful music (not just the Elvis, but also the wonderful Hawaiian-oriented He Mele No Lilo and Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride) as compared to the noticable lack of songs in Atlantis and to some extent in Treasure Planet and New Groove, and astonishingly beautiful animation (which, again for the first time in many years, was not heavily reliant on CGI techniques and fancy in-your-face effects.) Not that any of these qualities are bad things (I really enjoyed Treasure Planet, and Atlantis was decent, although it could have been better), but it was nice to see Disney make a return to a simpiler and more personal form of animated feature. Heck, this was the first time since DUMBO that a Disney movie was animated completely with watercolor backgrounds. To top it all off, the story is really really emotionally charged. I still can't watch the movie without crying, and I was sobbing in the back of the theater for the last third of it when I saw it theatrically. Plus, Stitch is cute and fluffy!

As for Stitch! The Movie, I'm on the fence if I should even bother to rent it or even give the TV series the time of day. I came up with a nice idea for a sequel myself, although truth be told I think Lilo & Stitch stands on its own and any follow-up project will only do it wrong. Simba's Pride and The Search For Christopher Robin still remain the only direct-to-video projects I really love, and the vast majority of times I've seen others (Return to the Sea, The Enchanted Christmas, The Return of Jafar, Buzz Lightyear, etc.) I've been very insulted.

Er. Newer? :)

Actually talking about sequels and television series and the like, to my mind TENG was one cartoon that would have made an ideal television series (as long as they kept the humour and stayed away from animal transformations).

Sadly, Disney didn't have the faith in the movie before it was released and the rest is history.

I also think Team Atlantis would have been a smash hit Saturday morning cartoon.

Sorry to bump this thread up from the depths, but I got my copy yesterday and just thought I'd post my thoughts (for what they are worth).

My expectations were low, given how much I loved the original and nothing could possibly beat that for me. I was, however, pleasantly surprised.

As some have commented, it takes a little while to get going, but when it does it is a hell of a lot of fun. There are some classic one-liners in there, and some neat visual gags (a few of which are nice nods to the first one e.g. the ice cream guy).

As far as the animation goes, I think this is one of the best-looking DTVs to date. There were a few moments in the opening space sequence where I thought 'Oh, no!' (I think some of those computer generated ships looked a little dodgy), but the stuff in Hawaii looked great, and I think generally kept the same 'Chris Sanders look' of the first one. Of course, I though L & S looked beautiful, so it was a tough comparison.

Of course, L & S remains my fave Disney to date, and it was largely due to the fact that the humour was "so me". I think Stitch! does a pretty good job of maintaining that. The whole thing is obviously the set-up for the ongoing TV series. Even the packaging suggests this, with the ad for the coming series and the little 'spot them all' poster. I hope this not only gets screened here on our Disney Channel, but gets released on DVD too -IN COMPLETE SETS.

Even as a set-up, it was a pleasant way to spend a Tuesday morning and I reckon works well on its own. A nice addition to my DTV shelf.

::holding Loomis back from getting into a fight::

i just can't put it off any longer.......

Lilo and Stitch is a fine disney feature!

instead of waisting all this web space and this thread's space explaining why, i'm just going to say this once,

 "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!"

Lilo and Stitch may not have been your favorite disney movie...it may even have been your least favorite movie; but some people liked it. enough, anyway to make more money than The Emperor's New Groove (and spawn a television spinoff and a dtv tie-in and a dtv sequel and more plush) I'm not saying judge a movie based on it's promotional tie-ins. It can't be as bad as you say, because a lot of people liked it and you're not going to change anyone's mind!!!!!! :!:

I have a head ache and will therefore not delve into this too much, and make this kindqa blunt, maybe more so than I should, but...

-Had low expectations
-Saw it
-Low expectations definately not exceeded
-Thought Hamsterviel and Sandwhich Guy (625?) were hilarious and the only silver lining of this movie.
-I did not feel sorry once for the "poor lonely" stitch or his friend Lilo, and felt they tried too hard to make us feel this way. (it was nice and sweet in the first one, but tired in this one,IMO)
-So I will say it was a weak story with forced morals, but had funny parts, but none involved any of the main characters who were tired and boring.
-All in all, it made me reconsider upgrading my dvd of Lilo and Stitch this January. Infact I think, at least for now, I'm a little turned off by the whole thing right now, which is a shame because I did like the first one. I will probably at some point check out an episode of the series.

And I hope noone will take offense to this, not that anyone should, but it seems something was said in another post that greatly upset a couple of people so I am going to go back now, and read all the posts so that I can isolate the origens of the conflict. :P
