Beauty and the Beast versus Little Mermaid

Post by Alan »

Which film do you like better, Beauty and the Beast or the Little Mermaid and why?

I don't like Beauty and the Beast because the beast is ugly. The Little Mermaid is better

No offense, but some of your reasons lately have been, well... weird.

Sadly, I have to second that.

As for the question itself, I can't decide which one I prefer. They're both beautiful films that soar in many aspects and deserve the attention that they get.

The Little Mermaid. I can relate more to Ariel than I can to either Belle or Beast. Beauty and the Beast is a truly beautiful movie and it would surely win a contest like this, but TLM's always been my favorite.

That and TLM is a musical at its best (I find the B&tB songs to wear out faster than something like Under the Sea or Part of Your World), along with some of the most beautiful animation I've seen from the Disney co. because of the underwater elements. It wasn't as great when Ariel went on land, but it still held a beautiful look. And did I mention that I absolutely adore mermaids?

The only sore part I always felt in TLM was the way the story just seemed to fly by (especially once Ariel was out of the water). If they weren't so committed to a 90 min. time limit, it could've been much better. Although that does give the movie a sense of urgency according to Ariel's 3 day limit, they could've showed a little more interaction between Eric and Ariel as a way to further confirm that they truly loved each other, rather than amazed by each other.

I prefer the Little Mermaid. Sebastian is lovable...his voice, songs and personality. Also, something about the ocean setting is very lovely.

I don't like Beauty and the Beast. It just didn't appeal to me.

I prefer Beauty And The Beast anyday.

It's such a sweet and touching movie.

I think both are "Classics" that we think about when discussing the all time best Disney animated films. But i think for me, Beauty And The Beast is the better of the 2. I just love the songs, the characters and just how the whole thing is put together.

Alan, you said the Beast was ugly? Well, wasn't the whole point of the film to show that true love saw through a lack of physical attraction?

Still, The Little Mermaid is such a better movie. Both Belle and Ariel shine as heroines, but The Little Mermaid has just appealed to me more. I can't come up with a true reason why.

The Little Mermaid!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
It's my favourite Disney movie, next to Aladdin, and THEN comes Beauty and the Beast. Unforgetable characters, more real and alive than any Disney hero, a plot taking place under the sea(I JUST LOVE THE SEA!! And everything that has to do with it!).Ariel is the only disney Princess-and heroine, except Daryl Hanah- that is a mermaid! I love that fish tail! Plus she's the only one with red hair, and I find it so diferent and beautiful. Sebastian is just hilarious, and Ursula is the absolute diva- I like her as Vanessa too!! I couldn't ask for anything more! :) :) :) :)

I'll have to go with The Little Mermaid because it saved Disney from going bankrupt.
With out TLM there would be no BatB.

Well I think I can post this if this thread fits under the category of Polls and Games and it is a Poll, sort of. So I don't see why not. And I only created two recent threads in this Polls and Games.

Yes there would've been. It takes 4 years atleast to make an animated movie. It was long into production by the time Ariel made her debute! :)

Alan, first Bambi is boring and now Beauty And The Beast is boring. Now to the question, I like Beauty And the Beast better but not by much. Both are classics. I saw Beauty And The Beast on ice and it was beautiful. I like the songs better on Beauty And The Beast as well. I don't have the PE from Beauty And The Beast but I have the VHS which I paid more for than when it originally came out as it was OOP but my Disney Store had it.

:o :jawdrop:  Alan, how old are you? I know that when I was little, I agreed with you about Bambi but now that I'm older, I can say that it is such a classic! Such an artistic masterpiece! How can you say it's "boring"? :o  :jawdrop: :headshake:
