I thought one major drawback of this movie is that the songs are all pretty stinky. Really some of the worst songs that have been in a Disney film. Hard to believe that this came between 101 Dalmatians and Jungle Book, what with the good songs in those 2 movies. Another drawback is that the main character is never really shown as the King Arthur one might imagine from established mythology. A third drawback is that it ends too abruptly (and stupidly as far as what they do with Merlin). The whole movie comes off as a prologue without the main story attached.

Now, this movie still has some things to recommend: beautiful use of color, and animation from the "nine old men" at the top of their game; but most of all the movie is still worth watching just to see the sorcerer's duel between Merlin and Madam Mim.

The Sword in the Stone was great but wasn't that good. The movie should have been longer until Arthur grew up to an adult.

I think that this movie has one of the most amazing scenes ever in an animated movie.

The scene where Wart gets turned into a squirrel, first of all when Merlin gets chased that is one of the funniest scenes ever in an animated film, and when she screams!!

Anyway Merlin is trying to explain to Wart about froces, and the girl squirrel falls in love with Wart, and at the end of the scene Wart gets turned back into a human, the girl squirrel is heartbroken. Wart tries to explain to her that he is a boy, but she crawls up into the tree and starts to cry.

Then merlin tries to explain to Wart about Love, and he says it's perhaps the greatest force on earth, and Wart says "Even greater than gravity?" and Merlin replies "in it's way, yes" and they quietly walk of into the forest as the girl squirrel watches them out of site.

The whole thing is so subtle and yet so deep and is an absolute moment af true brilliance.

The Wizards duel is also a highlight! But the bit which always get me is when Merlin is up the tower and Archimedes laughs, that laugh is just amazing and makes me giggle every time!

I think the songs aren't that great, but I love Madam Mim's song a lot- who doesn't? And I also think the ending is perfect. I mean, did you really want to see what happened next, or are you refering to just an abrupt end to their conversation about the future?

It was a very long time ago since I've seen this! And from what I remember it was okay! A few good moments but nothing when compared to the greater Disney films. What I liked most about it was reconizing all the familiar voices!

Oh my, I haven't seen this in years.

Of what I remember, it was okay. Some of the scenes--especially with the squirrel and Madame Mim--were pretty funny. Disney has done better, though.

From what I remember, the songs weren't meant to be enjoyable. They were spells overall. It's more of an explanation of what happens. Personally, I liked both Higitus Figitus (I love that sequence) and Mad Madame Mim. The other ones aren't so great though.

I also LOVED Mad Madame Mim! Even named my first cat that. lol!

But the squirrel part was one my my favorites. That big squirrel playing with Merlin's tail, lol

The Squirrel Scene is probably my favorite scene and also the funniest scene in any disney movies.

It's parts are worth more than the sum. That's not a good thing when we talk about film. I haven't seen it in close to ten years, but I do expect it would fall flat. I remember getting tired of it in my later childhood. Another product of a Disney dark age.

To spend an hour or so, the movie is worthy of the viewing.. I dunno.. I've yet to see a disney animated movie that I can honestly say I just never wanted to see again..

My least favorite is Snow White.. only because her singing actually gave me a headache.. But I liked the movie none the less..

Eh.. Each our own.

I havent seen it since I was a kid, but I loved it then. I watched ove and over until I got sick and tired of it. I don't remember it being boring, but that's a matter of opinion.

The Sword And the Stone would have been better if it hadn't ended so fast. Arthur becomes king and then the movie ends. I think it needed a sequel as what happened to Arthur after he became king.

I agree with those that said the songs are lacking. But I do like the film because it's got great characters.

I love this movie. Some of my favorite characters were in Sword. Mad Madame Mim, Merlin, Wart and of course Archimedes the Owl!!!! Archimedes has to be one of the all-time top animal sidekicks.
