May I Just Say....

Post by Siren »

We have a great forum staff? I certainly hated seeing some topics get shut down because I hoped in the near future, the hate would go away and the mature debate would start. But I totally agreed with them being locked and thank you for that. Obviously it was not the time to start such topics, with tensions and emotions so high.
As a forum admin myself, I know how hard it can be. You lock a topic and suddenly you're "the bad guy" and are "censoring" people. It's the same junk kids say about their parents when they tell their kids to stop fighting. I don't think you get nearly enough respect and kudos.
Let's hear it for Luke, Paka, 2099net, and all the rest (whoever you are) ;)
Not only do you moderate the board for rule breaks, but you also are a wealth of infomation, you guys get involved in the topics, and so much more.

Keep up the great work guys!

I always forget about that section. It's at the bottom and I never scroll down.

I love my mouse: it has a roller thingy that causes me to scroll down without pressing the left mouse button a hundred times. :D

It's okay, Luke or a mod will probably move it anyway.

Yeah. You may have noticed I've had the same problem.

As I suggested in my post about locked threads and getting off-topic, I'm cool with the decision Luke ultimately had to make and I totally understand.

I just want to point out the small differences in these threads:
-Locked Threads and Getting Off-Topic is basically a discussion on how we should do better next time
-May I Say... is a "good job" type of thread aimed at Luke and the mods

Please do not confuse these threads.

Is there really that much of a difference? I thought I had already jabbed at both in the original thread and I kinda wondered if the two should be merged. . .

But who am I to say?

I was actually only writing that to prevent a merge, but if that's what you want, then go ahead. You don't have to roll your eyes at me.

I wasn't rolling my eyes at you; that was directed toward myself.

I'm not saying whether or not the threads should be merged, I was just wondering out loud if they should be.

Actually, the abortion thread was locked down WHILE IT WAS BEING CIVIL.
Although given a quick scan of the posts in this thread (I'm at work) everything seems civil, I've decided to lock this thread (for the same reasons as the Rosie/Meltdown thead). I also feel the subtitle of the thread is designed to bring out high emotions.
I consider this to be censorship because it was locked before emotions got high. Besides of which, why should be rip each other's throats out when given the chance. It allows for you to have your opinions challenged, and for you to strengthen them by defending them.

It is a shame that the forum staff don't consider our opinions as worthy as their own. If they did, they would allow the debate to run its course, which it always does. The Bible Thread, THe passion of the christ and any other one I've been involved in eventually disapated when the participants realised that they were going in circles. This would have happened eventually with the abortion thread, but we'll never know. Apparently being civil wasn't enough - the topic was shut down before it had a chance to be started.

And don't give me the nonsense that it was locked because it was rehashing the Rosie thread. If rehashing was a lockable offence, then every damn post with a slipcover, or a poll, or a cover art discussion would be shut down as well.

It is a shame our "great forum staff" don't consider the readers and posters mature enough to come to this natural conclusion.

A-M-E-N. Siren, you took the words right out of my mouth! I'm enjoying every second here and I'm sure my enjoyment is much because of the hard work of Luke and the other moderators! Keep up the fantastic job!

I agree Siren. I respect all the mods for the job they do and I understand that that job is not always easy when you sometimes have to be the bad guy. Keep up the good work!

History always tends to repeat itself.. Granted, it was being civil.. You know, it would have gone quite sour. A precautionary measure isn't something I would call censorship. Esp on a message board that's geared towards Disney talk, Not designed to be a political or religious debating forum, However allowed if kept civil.. the rosie thread showed not an ounce of civility! It was a "You bash me I'll bash you" thread to the core, From early on. Yes, some folks tried damn hard to keep it civil, but with each thought out post, 3 negative posts of name calling followed.

Apples and Oranges.. Your taking two opposites and trying to prove a point.

Shame our great forum participants haven't shown an ounce of maturity to allow a thread to come to a natural conclusion without trying to throw every ignornant name out..

I'm all for your rights to an opinion belief and outlook on life. However, I don't validate that opinion if it's always spewed in a hateful way...

I'd like to be able to take a bow, but since the Trade Forum is seldom on the verge of a meltdown I can't say that I've had to do much lately.

So ... I'll just stand by and applaud those Mods that definitely deserve the accolades :thumb:
