By the way, about Pocahontas. Dad brought me from US a video release of Pocahontas from the Disney's masterpiece collection (you know, big colourful boxes with some quite famous movies), cause I finally got sick of my awfully-translated copy. The bad thing is that all of my videoplayers (I've got 3, each one of different company and all brand new) refuse to play the whole movie and show me only an FBI license and list of penalties for unauthorised copying or smth else like that. I'm in a despair...

Was it a DVD your dad bought? Is it a DVD player and what region? The DVDs have different regions. I see you're from Ukraine and Ukraine is in a different region from the US. That might be the problem. The only way a DVD of a different region from the US will play is if you have a DVD that can play all regions.

No, it was a simple video cassette, my DVD works pretty fine with all the stuff. It is my videoplayer that refuses to play US cassette with that damned FBI protection.
I haven't watched Pocahontas that much but I thought the new animation was pretty cool...from what I know was new.
This isn't strictly related, but besides 'Morning Report', what was added to The Lion King, if anything? Besides the touch up of colours and stuff, because as my favourite Disney film I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't so much added. If I were a big fan of Pocahontas I'd be pretty impressed with the changes made.

At least one of the scenes in "Just Can't Wait to be King" was entirely reanimated and always throws me for a loop. What I heard was that the artists didn't like the way it looked on the IMAX screen and decided to change it, but that doesn't make much sense. It was fine before; why bother going through all that trouble for a few seconds of film that had nothing wrong to begin with?

Why don't you buy it at an inexpensive place like walmart or target or some place like that. No need to get it at barnes and nobles

Ever thought that perhaps even $5-10 can be considered expensive to some people (myself included)?
WIST #1 (The pinkrenata Edition) -- Kram Nebuer: *mouth full of Oreos* Why do you have a picture of Bobby Driscoll?

Oh that would be the birds singing in the crocodile's mouths...I read about that (but it looked exactly the same).
Must just be the colours then because at several points during the film I thought "that wasn't there before" but it probably was.
I think the best thing about the DVDs is the commentaries...I rarely have a chance to sit through the whole thing but some of the stuff they say on both is absolutely fasinating.

Yeah, that's the scene I was talking about. Actually, the characters are a lot more rounded and cartoony than in the original scene; they looked looked rather angular before.
I wish I could do a screen cap of my VHS to show you a comparison.
I am dredging up an old topic, because I FINALLY bought the DVD
First off, the cover is a bit off. Pocohontas just looks a little weird to me. But overall, it's no where near the worst cover. But I of course don't buy movies for the covers.
If I Never Knew You scenes I thought were done perfectly. I was under the impression there was more Colors of the Wind flashbacks, but there wasn't much at all. And it's not like they could do much anyways. Which was better? Having John Smith sing to her and unable to move his arms? Or showing a couple of flashbacks to for filler? I noticed real quickly how the animators put some effort into making John Smith look like he wanted to embrace her. He would move his arms, as if he was going to be free, but the harsh reality set back in. It was kind of sad. But it was seemless in both areas and I am glad it's there. It was originally suppost to be anyways and much of the pencil tests were complete, hence why it seemed to fit so well for me
And yeah, I have to agree with most everybody here -- all of the new material was put in so smoothly that I wouldn't be able to tell that it was new if I didn't know that it was. It really did add that extra something to the Pocahontas/John Smith relationship and helps the film dramatically; the rest of it plays out with so much more urgency and is really intense because of that one decleration of love. Really terrific song, and (of course) even better here than the pop version that's been over the credits since 1995.
I especially liked the moment at the end of the new song when she was going to visit Grandmother Willow and saw her reflection in the water again, VERY nice link back to Just Around the Riverbend and it really illustrates how IIKNY always should've been there and interconnects to the rest of the film.
The rest of the DVD is simmilarly great, although the commentary feels a bit disjointed because there's a lot of blank spots and it feels like the guys haven't seen their movie in years. When they get onto a story really well it's great, but there's far too much name dropping and pauses are too numerous. I think if I were a DVD producer, especially if the film was not a recent release, I would sit whoever was going to be commentating down and have them watch the film once in its entirety prior to doing the recording, so that it can be fresh in their minds and hopefully have stirred up memories for them to then mention in the track. This was also the first time I've ever seen a DVD where they seemed to stop talking almost abruptly as soon as the credits came up; every other commentary I've ever heard, even if it couldn't be screen-specific anymore, talked a little ways through the credits just as a closing thoughts sort of thing, or, frequently just kept talking ebcause they had more to say. Finding Nemo's commentary, for example, keeps going right up until the second when the light in the Pixar lamp logo at the end goes out. Pocahontsa, it was a shame they stopped so quickly. This commentary just scratched the surface of what it could have done, I think. Still a very worthwhile listen for fans and I'm glad I heard it, but I just think it definately could've been more than it was. Also a shame that they didn't port over the historical commentary from the laserdisc that I've heard is so good for the theatrical release version; I would've liked to hear it. too.
Deleted scenes needed to have some sort of explination of what they were and why they were ultimately discarded. I especially liked the momentary Just Around the Riverbend reprise and wish it had stayed. I find myself very curious as to why it got the axe; it certianly fit the mood and tone of the scene where it would have gone very well, and was only a couple lines, not a full-blown song, so it wouldn'tve taken too long to animate or play into the film.
Kudos to Disney for including the 1995 making-of; even if it is a tad overpromotional, there was insight there, and it was really just fun to see that again and remember how it was originally marketed. I wish they'd include more of these on a regular basis. Nice job on the trailers, too, though they should have been widescreen.
Overall very nice job with the DVD to Disney - thank you. Stll have to go through some of the making-of stuff, but what I've seen so far is great, and the transfer of the movie is terrific. Thanks.
