No but I don't care. The "new" version one is just as good as the original "version", and IMO, the "new" version is even better than the original version. It looks much better with the changes. Aside from seeing Hayden Christensen in Return of the Jedi(why did they change that! ) I've liked all the changes!

I like this so-called "new" version. It makes the movie look fresh. I see nothing wrong with a few cosmetic changes...

I agree. The only thing that upset me was the Hayden Christensen thing.

Nothing else affected the presentation of the movies.

I don't mind seeing Anakin in spirit at the end, nor do I mind the added celebration scenes like Naboo, etc.

I think one Day Lucas will put an Edition out with all 3 or 4 version if he does the 3-d

He has done 3 versions of the original trio

I think unlikely the original theatrical versions will come in DVD but $$$$ might change that. The original would look as good as the redoriginals cus except for the new CGI alterations it is the same film, the same source! :-P

Maybe the Library of Congress may have a 35mm print of the theatrical of A New Hope, but not even that is the original.

Maybe on the next 5" disc.

But the altered sections of the negative are reportedly destroyed..

*breathes hard

Including sound mixes there's been like 6 versions of STAR WARS, 4 each of the Empire Strikes Back and Rechange of the Jedi

Maybe a royal reptile and a dead rodent one day will join the dark side and toguether with their combined forces end this destructive conflict :-P

I don't have to remember either :D. I have the original cuts with the 4.1-channel matrixed Dolby Surround sound mixes of STAR WARS and Empire Strikes Back in widescreen Laserdisc (Except for the original STAR WARS title/scroll intro) (which is arranged different, and the opening music was synched to THAT to rise and fanfare to what you read) which was changed a long long time ago in a ranch far far away. (But that also is "around")

I also have the original cut of Reload of the Jedi with the THX 4.1 channel matrixed mix too.

It's not that the "prints" are missing, movies are not prints, prints are a mass end product for the theaters and have to be struck from original negatives or other pre-print material. Stop thinking, oh the print is damaged or the print is faded. Thousands of prints are made for the exhibition run and then most are usualy destroyed afterwards.
It's the NEGATIVES that are important . that's the real original image.

..photons striking light-sensitive silver for the first time..

The negatives for STAR WARS were supposedly dissasembled and recut/intercut with the new Special Edition's fotage, therefore THAT became the original negative. What did they do with the parts they cut out/replaced with CGI footage from the original negative? Reportedly several persons have said that was destroyed. So the original negative for STAR WARS for example may no longer exist in physical form . Of course maybe the TRIMS might exist somewhere in a reel in a can marked DO NOT USE. whoknowz...

Anyway that physical existant SE re-edited negative was scanned into digital for it's 90's "restoration" so it may only exists as a digital intermediate file, or a new internegative printed from that digital intermediate data.

you see, anyway even with all the $11 million? digital massageing, the Special Edition prints of STAR WARS still had some color crossover probablly due to severe fading from the original negatives. (for example, highlights might be magenta while shadows greenish, which i don't undertand why didn't they get rid of that back then but maybe time was money.) On the new DVDs everything is bluish but that might been an :artistic decision: by Lucas. ;)

btw the original negatives of the Star Wars trilogy were 35mm Scope/Panavision for the live action and 35mm VistaVision (Large Format negative almost 50% sharper than Scope and more than twice as sharp as the popular Super-35 used for many Scope ratio films today) for the effects. So the STAR WARS special effects in 70mm prints looked great! :D

:-P

But whoknowz if those original effects are also stored somewhere in a reel on a can that says VistaVision-DO NOT USE...

What I don't get is if Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi look older than why does Anakan look so young! :? That's why I hated the change. :x

Perhaps it's symbolic. Older Anakin was twisted by the Dark Side and is usually associated with Darth Vader/evil. Whereas the Younger Anakin was good, as we know him from episodes I, II and most of III :D
