Are all 5-20 releases REALLY coming out?

Post by buffalobill »

I read at the Home Theater Forum in the bargain section (where the Weekly Roundup is also posted-same as on dvdfile) from several posters that several of the May 20th scheduled releases may have been changed (thus the reason for not being in ANYONE'S ads). Atlantis 2, 20,000 Leagues are sure things, Love Bug is a probable but Rescuers & some of the reissues (Rescuers Down Under, Aristocats) are listed almost nowhere. Amazon usually changes the release date when a price drop or reissue occurs but not for RDU or Aristocats. The Rescuers (which should have major advertising) isn't listed at DDD & in NO ads. I had planned on spending a bundle this Tuesday but it may not happen if some of these releases have been changed.

The Aristocats, Hercules, Rookie, Pete's Dragon just appear to be new stock coming in. No price drop, same old discs, nothing to see.

Rescuers should be coming in with the other 3. It's just that Disney's done a fabulous job of NOT providing much on that and The Love Bug to retailers. Which explains why they weren't up for pre-order as recently as a few weeks ago and a lot of places STILL don't have them listed.

I imagine the stores will get all 4 major titles in from Disney at the very least, but possibly not a whole lot of stock.

It seems like Atlantis: Milo's Return is what they think the public really cares about. Maybe they're right.

I sure hope you're right, Luke. It does appear that, no matter what, Disney is banking on 2 dvds (20,000 Leagues-fantastic) & (Atlantis 2-the newest cheapquel-SAD). If these classics truly are released Tuesday the person in charge must be in the witness protection program (& he has the discs with him). How can they not make a big deal out of the first Love Bug movie & The Rescuers coming to dvd for the first time??? Makes absolutely NO sense. I've got Love Bug, Rescuers & Aristocats preordered from showwow.com for a fabulous price ($42.88 shipped) & hope that all 3 are shipped. It's my first order with them & they have a very checkered record. At worst I'll have to get them to credit my card or do a charge back if they give me any problem. 20,000 Leagues is coming from CH & I wouldn't touch Atlantis 2 with a 10 foot pole. Well, this Tuesday shall be very interesting.

Edit: Just checked dvdtalk & they reviewed The Love Bug yesterday & The Rescuers today so perhaps I've gotten all frazzled over nothing. Hopefully all 3 will be out Tuesday as scheduled (including Aristocats).

Well all I know is that Amazon usually ship their international orders about a week early (indeed my "Milo's Return" and "20,000 Leagues" shipped last Wednesday so I should get them by the end of this week). But "The Love Bug" is not even in the "shipping soon" state.

"The Love Bug" status at Amazon.com today is "usually ships in 2-3 days" - they don't have any stock. :o

It's been a long time since I've seen Amazon.com out of stock on a release date on a disc from a major studio.

What's going on Disney? The preview copies seem to have got out okay for reviews. :?

Rescuers DVD for 5/20-MIA??

Post by wdwleesa »

Has anyone been able to find a store selling this DVD today? I have called Circuit City, Best Buy, Wal-mart, Target and the Disney Store and have not been able to find it.

Please post if you have found this DVD today in any brick and mortar store.

I drove around to all the stores, Target, Best Buy, Wal Mart, Circuit City, Disney Store... the only new discs were 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (which I got at Wal Mart for $14.77) and Atlantis II. No copies of the Rescuers or Love Bug whatsoever. In fact, the Disney Store told me that the Rescuers was "vaulted." Then they asked me when it is supposed to be coming out and I said today.

The search continues...

amazon preorder

Post by Papa Bear »

I pre-ordered all four of todays releases thru amazon but have not yet been notified that they have been shipped. But I will keep you updated if I hear anything from them. And I would not be to concerned about the Disney Store Employees most of the ones I have talked never have aclue about what is being released unless they have it up for preoder.

Yeah I know. I keep seeing things saying it was supposed to be out today. I may go check some other stores tonight, the DVD obviously exists but it seems strange that none of the big stores that sell DVDs had it. :?

I hope the rescuers and love bug show soon. I picked up Atlantis and 20,000 leagues (My favorite)

How do they expect to make sales if they do not ship the product out the day its actually released?

Space Jam!!!

Post by Papa Bear »

I to really like Space Jam and needed to get one more item to use up all of my Gift Certificate so decide it was time to replace my old VHS copy. This was listed as an Enhanced Edition so I am hoping it may in it's original aspect ratio. But amazon did not have any info listed on what the specs of the DVD is but it did look like a new cover so hopefully they have not pulled a disney and just reissued the old discs. But I guess I will see.

(Sorry for going offf topic I know this is not a DisneyDVD)

"Space Jam Enhanced Edition" is still 4:3 cropped :( The enhancements are a commentary track, some music videos and some features (mostly text based)

I have a version of this, plus the UK R2 release, which is actually amamorphic widescreen 1.85:1, despite being listed as 4:3 on the box (but is barebones).

"Space Jam" was OK, not so big over in the UK as - to be frank - Micheal Jordan means diddlysquat to the average UK punter. And what's most unforgivable of all is that Cool Cat and/or Col. Rimfire didn't appear once (not even in the backgrounds!). I'm looking forward to "Back In Action" a lot more, Joe Dante has never been involved in a bad film.

I'm working on a "Looney Tunes" website at the moment, which will list every single Looney Tunes cartoon (which it must be said is months off, too much data to key in). I'll let you know when it's complete!

Space Jam was just plain terrible, but I really look forward to this November because of the DVD release and the new movie (which actually looks good).
