And now, let's get back to the countdown:

10. Taxi Driver -- Martin Scorsese

9. Fantasia

8. Det Sjunde Inseglet -- Ingmar Bergman

7. Rashomon -- Akira Kurosawa

6. Dumbo

5. Lawrence of Arabia -- David Lean

4. 2001: A Space Odyssey -- Stanley Kubrick

3. The Godfather -- Francis Ford Coppolla

2. Schichinin no Samurai -- Akira Kurosawa

1. Brazil -- Terry Gilliam

For my Top 20, check out my listing on http://www.ymdb.com/user_top20_view.asp?usersid=10504.
The very existence of Dumbo is a fairly persuasive argument against agnosticism.

Good list STASHONE, lots of Depp, some Burton and you place Fight Club over American Beauty

These especially are good picks:

But no Evil Dead II? :o

ultimate list

Post by donaldduckfan »

oh my gosh wet hot american summer is one of the funniest movies ive ever seen. one question though, what is the big deal with american beauty? i honestly don't get it. what about it was so enjoyable? i for one, obviously, didn't enjoy it and didn't connect with it at all. anyone who likes it feel free to respond. by the way i'm not trying to start a fight or anything, just wanting to know your thoughts.

For what it's worth, here's a list a made in March - http://www.ymdb.com/user_top20_view.asp?usersid=4996

I tweaked it a little today, but it's not as accurate as it could be.

Another Wat Hot American Summer fan

I think American Beauty has a lot to recommend - especially the acting and the script is funny and literate.

However, I think it is much poorer than the similar themed Fight Club (yes, American Beauty shares many similarities to Fight Club). However American Beauty got all the awards, and Fight Club got nothing (if indeed it was nominated - it wasn't nominated for the Oscars). If anything the script for Fight Club has more (dark) comedy and is much more literate and even a little self-aware.

I doubt American Beauty would make my top 100 list - but Fight Club's easily in my top 10.

First Post, Go Easy On Me

What better place to start than a favourite movies topic since I love watching movies...

My Top 10 Favourite Movies

• Who Framed Roger Rabbit
This has been my favourite movie since I was a kid. Great story, great special effects.
• Rocky
Very inspirational story and it proves that Sylvester Stallone can act
• Ghostbusters
Another childhood favourite. Gotta love that Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
• Rear Window
A very tense and suspenful movie from Alfred Hitchcock, plus it's one of Jimmy Stewart's best performances to boot.
• Saturday Night Fever
Very gritty urban tale that I can relate to on many levels.
• It's A Wonderful Life
Very heartwarming classic movie that never fails to cheer me up when I'm depressed. Also features Jimmy Stewart's other best performance.
• Psycho
Intense thriller from Alfred Hitchcock, it always gives me chills. Beautiful B&W cinematography too and the Bates mansion is very freaky to this day.
• North By Northwest
Another Hitchcock masterpiece, and very fun movie. The biplance chase is still as cool as ever.
• Star Wars
A special effects classic and a masterpiece in its own right.
• JFK
Oliver Stone presents his side of the story. It may not be what really happened, but it's still a great movie and it does make you think.

And just cause I feel like it, here's my top 15...

• Goldfinger
• The Godfather
• The Godfather: Part II
• Taxi Driver
• Sleeping Beauty

It's good to see so many Hitchcock fans on this board too, if I had done a top 16, Vertigo, would've been there. I also like The Birds, Marnie, Rope, Notorious and The Man Who Knew Too Much.

Oh yeah, since it's appropriate for this forum, here's my top 3 favourite Disney animated classics...

• Sleeping Beauty
• The Lion King
• The Jungle Book

Feel free to analyze me at your will now. ;)

This is the greatest and most underrated comedy of this decade! Seriously, I love this movie so much but I get nots in my stomach from watching it sometimes cause of the nostalgia and memories of being back in summer camp. It makes me feel old. What I wouldnt give to go back 10 years...

Back to the discussion of Hitchcock: I just saw Strangers on a Train and I'd put it over Rear Window and close to Vertigo. Fantastic movie, and extremely suspenceful. The climax of the two men racing to get to that same spot was so, so, so well done.

My favorite quote: "I need a hot dog to satisfy my craving."
