Thurl Ravenscroft passes away
Most noted as the voice of Tony the Tiger but also did a lot of work for Disney mostly as a singer and at the theme parks.

He also sung the "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" song for Chuck Jones' 1966 "Grinch" cartoon. That's what the CNN obit fails to mention.

Aw. I've always had a thing for voices and he was one of my favorites.
I remember reading a little story about him in a magazine. Whenever he'd go to someplace like the grocery store, kids would recognize him when he spoke. They'd ask him if he was Tony, and he'd nod. Then they'd beg him with, "Say it, say it!"
He was always glad to belt out, "They're GREAT" for them! Sounds like he was a really nice guy.
He will be missed.

Wow, he was uncredited a lot. And he was Kirby in the Brave Little Toaster! I knew that voice was familiar but never bothered to look.
As a kid, he was my very first favorite cartoon character and I use to eat nothing but frosted flakes for breakfast. 26 year old, it is STILL my favorite cereal
He shall be missed

Dang... I didn't notice this thread earlier?!
For some reason, Thurl was one of my favorite VAs, even though he was largely uncredited and known for just a handful of characters. As much as his rich voice enticed me to buy Frosted Flakes, my health-conscious nurse mommy never allowed us the sugary bliss at breakfast.
And I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that he performed "You're A Mean On, Mr. Grinch" - only a few years ago!
That 'toon is one of my favorite holiday specials, and a favorite Chuck Jones production, besides. Thurl's deep contribtution just makes it all the better!
R.I.P. Thurl. You will be missed.

Life often leaves us standing bare, naked and dejected with a lost opportunity. Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words: "Too late."

Thurl Ravenscroft not only has done voices for Disney films, but also for the rides at Disneyland. He will be truely missed.
Here is a great site to go to for his biography and audio clips of the great voice actor himself: www.allthingsthurl.com
