The Nintendo Wii
As you may, or may not know, the BIG three video game companies have unveiled their next-gen video gaming systems.
In a thread below, you can see the Sony PS3. I'm going to post information, and a link to the picture of the Nintendo Wii. The system, and the design, have me excited about the Nintendo Wii, and I can't wait to get my hands on one!
First, a link to a picture of the system:

Now, information regarding the system (information from 1up.com):
Just before Mario and friends kick off their pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference, USA Today has revealed the first pictures and information on Nintendo's next-generation game console, Wii. The actual machine itself is tiny enough to be pretty versatile, as it can sit flat or stand vertically thanks to a silver, detachable stand.
Wii will feature an online matchmaking service ala Xbox Live with downloadable content in the form of a library of archived games. From old school games like Donkey Kong to modern GameCube releases like Super Mario Sunshine, Nintendo says they'll all be available for download on Wii, though a price, if there will be one, has yet to be determined.
Ease of development is what Nintendo claims separates their next-generation hardware from the competition. "They do not need to make major changes from the games they were designing," said analyst Richard Doherty of The Envisioneering Group. "They have better performance without having to do a lot of extra work."
Part of the philosophy driving Nintendo's decisions behind introducing the Nintendo DS and their Wii research and development has been keeping the heart of gaming in tact, and that appears to be a central part of Revolution. "We've built Wii around the concept of 'all-access gaming,'" said Kaplan. "We're about sticking to the soul of gaming."
Nintendo will reveal the full details on the Wii later this morning. Stay tuned to 1UP.com for more.

A couple of notes. There is a false report about the Nintendo Wii specifications, that states it is only 2 to 3 times more powerful than the Nintendo GameCube. Nintendo has stated that this is not the case. They have said that the Nintendo Wii will be as powerful as the other two consoles, but do not expect that developers will take full advantage of the capabilities of the next-generation systems, as that would make the budgets of the games as much as some blockbuster movies!
Also, Nintendo has announced that access to their online service will be free. No price has been set for downloading games from Nintendo's 20 year catalog. As the system is not set to be released until early to mid 2006, much about pricing, and final specs, have yet to be determined.

X-Box 360 and PS3 sound great, but it's hands down Nintendo Revolution for me! However I will also likely purchase X-Box 360 this Holiday Season. I have a huge GCN collection, so the backwards compatability sounds awesome! Having access to download over 20 years worth of NES/SNES classics sounds amazing! I can't wait until Spring 2006

Nintendo will release games for the Revolution on regular DVD's. However, it will be backwards compatible with the GameCube discs, which I assume is what you are referring to as "crappy".Isidour wrote:nice, but this one will use normal DVDs or the "crappy mini-size" DVDs?
The Nintendo Revolution certainly seems to be on track to compete with Sony and Microsoft. I think people are underestimating Nintendo. We shall wait and see.
I, personally, plan to buy a Sony PS3 (although I don't like the design), and when the Revolution is released, I'll buy it!
RJKD23 prefers to be both Nintendo fans and Sony fans.
I have to say the PSP is far better than the DS!
But of course, PlayStation is the better system!
Soo...a 1up huh? They planning to reach up to 7up?

I agree too!Dan05 wrote:The system is nice but i'd have to say that the X Box 360 and PS3 systems are alot nicer.

Nintendo should come out with one of those multi-game discs like the old cartridges they used to sell for the original NES that had like 60 games to chose from, only drop their entire catalogue of oldschool 8-bit entertainment onto the single disc. They could package and market it as a deluxe retro-modern style NES cartridge and it would basically be like the entire NES system on one or two game discs. I'm sure if the specs hold up, they'd have more than enough capacity to do something like that. Theyd have to keep it straight to format though with all the original screens, menus and soundtracks. Even if every game they dropped for the Revolution sucked, I'd still buy it just for that one game alone. Nintendo needs to do this!

I have been a Nintendo fan since the original NES came out in the late 80's I even still have it and play some games now and then. Ever since Nintendo merged with Sega it was great but XBox and PS2 beat it still.
Hopefully Nintendo: Revoution will at least beat XBox 2.
