Drew Barrymore's character is a stepchild. She calls Elliot's mother by her first name.

It's cute, funny and quirky. I love the two Hawaiian songs in the film, especially Rollercoaster ride. It also shows that family doesnt always mean the "nuclear family" it can be in various forms. Enough with the lecture...

...about the stepchild thing, I always thought Gertie and Mike were stepchildren. What 6 year old calls her mother by her first name?

but anyway, it is a broken home, the father is nowhere, and i think i remember a few negative things being said about him... though it's been a while since i sat down to watch it

well....i admit it...I cried ya i kno. I think its just so sweet. and something...that you do NOT watch every other day or even maybe more than 5ive times a year. But I'd really beat my self if I didn't own it...ya kno? Sort of like Edward Scissorhands....that movie makes me cry SO MUCH....and I probably only watched it once since I got it....but I'd kick myself if I hadn't gotten it. But back ON topic!

I like Lilo and Stitch because....well idk....hehehehhe sorry for the randomness....I just think its a cute story.

I am SO scared of ET! I watched it when I was WAY to young and all i remember is a scary alien and a lot of people in masks and suits going down a big white tunnel! ::Shiver:: hehehehe So I couldn't tell ya if it was the same sort of thing.

To say Lilo and Stitch is like E.T. is like saying Brother Bear will be like The Emperor's New Groove; both have animal transformations and both end with the transformee learning a moral at the end. So I suppose Brother Bear could also be like Beauty and the Beast.

And of course, Snow White is like Sleeping Beauty. Or Cinderella. While Lilo and Stich is like Oliver and Company, or is it like Pinocchio? And 101 Dalmatians is like the Aristocats. And Treasure Planet is like Atlantis. And Tarzan is like The Jungle Book. And Mary Poppins is like Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

The similarities between those films are more minute than the ones between L&S and E.T. and you know it.

I think it would be more similar situation if The Emperor's New Groove had the price turning into a bear instead of a llama, and then Brother Bear comes along. To me, thats like the relationship between E.T. and L&S. Same basic story, slightly, slightly different twist.

Hey, you don't have to agree with me. It's just my opinion.

Honestly, everyone I know loves Lilo and Stitch and they call it a classic

i dont get it. it really is nothing special. it certainly isnt as good as the fab four of the renaissance or the titles that followed them e.g pocahontas, hunchback, hercules, Mulan, tarzan and even emperor's new groove (which i didnt like)
but i loved the teaser trailers for it which contained classic scenes from disney movies. would've been even better if the movie was actually decent, lol

anyone agree/disagree?

I've never seen Lilo and Stitch. I'm not interested in Disney's alien stuff anyway, but it did look cute in the previews...

you dnt want to see it either, lol the previews are very misleading. you get the impression that this movie would be just as good as BATB, Aladdin, Lion King the films it was spoofing in the trailers but it wasnt. It was utter rubbish!

Why would you think a trailer spoofing something would be "just as good" as the source? Was "Scary Movie" just as good as Scream? Is "Date Movie" just as good as... Jeez, is "Date Movie" even just as good as watching paint dry? Clearly not. Not a month of Sunday. Or even in a million years of Sundays.

You could argue the trailers were misleading if you expected the movie to contain Disney crossovers. But I would say the trailers captured the irrelevant humour of the film.

i understand what you mean. what i meant to say was that when i saw those trailers i assumed that the film would have some kind of spark to it that these classics had, which is why they were using them. because i think the trailers are good and humorous, i thought that the film would at least be as funny as the trailers.

oh, by the way i thought scary movie was hell of alot better than Scream, lol

It was cute, really cute. But how interesting can be a film that's about the true friendship between a little girl and an alien when there's E.T. already? I mean, what do we have here? A little girl (with an undeniably huge nose), a strict sister, a guy who can't date her, a tiny version of Beast -he's bad in the beginning and then he becomes kind and loving- who is also an alien, and a comical alien duo. And all this is set in Hawaii. What were they thinking? Here's what I like from the movie: the island. The Hawaiian songs, surfing, beaches all this stuff is really nice. But why aliens? And why did they draw the Hawaiians with such big noses and fat legs? I don't think they look like that!
All in all, this concept tried to be really imaginative and original but it ended up looking like a circus. Lack of imagination can lead to "solutions" like that, combinations like Hawaii & aliens. What's next? Dinosaurs in Ancient Rome? Mermaids in space?
A cute and funny film, as I said before. And it is a classic. But I highly doubt that it's worth this definition.
