Post by Tom in North Carolina »

I read this story to my daughter last night and am wondering how the DVD is. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

You can read a review of the UD review right here:

Personally, I don't have the DVD and am not 100% sure if I want it, frankly, as The Aristocats, although it had an okay story was disgusting to look at. It has the sketchy look of the 1960/70s movies from Disney, only it just looks too heavy here; even on my video of which I've had for around a decade, you can see that no clean up attempt was made in some of the scenes.

I think it is worth it. The review is dead on - its in the bottom half of Disney releases but certainly not one of the worst. I love Everybody Wants to be a cat.

A fairly enjoyable movie but nothing original here, most of the plot devices are derivative from Jungle Book, 101 Dalmations and Lady and the Tramp.

I'd really like a better release for The Aristocats and others in the Gold Collection.

If you're thinking of purchasing it, I'd wait for a rerelease to go alongside The Aristocats 2. I doubt it'll get a 2 disk set, but I'm sure it'll be easy to improve upon the current release.

I am not sure about a better release - the Transfer and Sound are both above average. There is nothing historically significant about the movie. I would go with this one.

Better safe than sorry I say. It really depends how much you're in of a hurry to get it, I guess!
And it has some value. It was the first after Walt's death.

I have it on VHS. It's a fun movie, but by no means a great one. If you can get it at a reasonable price or want to complete your collection, go ahead.

that sketchy look is the beauty of the film. and I'm sorry that today's trend is an obsession with clean up animation. erasing any trace of human hand.

I wouldn't recommand anyone to buy this film. I have it for like a decade and have watched it around 10 times - 10 times in which I forced myself to like it, but no, it's just awful. The animation is absolutely subpar and very unaesthetic to look at. Don't waste your money on it.

This movie is fantastic and certainly one of the best I think. I never trust a review or make my decission on one... you would have to be stupid to do so.

In my opinion The Aristocats is boring and one of Dinsey's worst movies but if you liked the story you should consider buying it because i'm sure your daughter would like it.

The DVD deserves a 2-Disc...but (the review says) it's good.
I think your daughter will like the cute cats and catchy tunes!

The Aristocats isn't a favorite movie of mine, but it's OK(the main problem is that it's basicly a rehash of Lady and the Tramp/101 Dalmatians)....I did like the characters, though, especially Duchess and O'Malley...

My sincere thanks to everyone who voiced an opinion. I'll probably just go ahead and get it and see for myself. Once again, my thanks to you all.

Yes Aristocats is truly a wonderful movie. I personally love it. Eva Gabor does a brilliant voice as Duchess.

I really agree with RJKD23, it does deserve a two-disc. However, it will probably not get one. :( The Aristocats is one of my favorite Disney movies with animals playing a major role (two others are Lady and the Tramp and Bambi).
