Limited Issue DVDs

Post by orestes. »

Hello again... been a little while since I've been around. :P

Anyways recently I got a bunch of Limited Issue Disney DVDs from ebay. Actually one is mine and the rest are my friends that she won't open yet and we are having trouble determining them if they are real or good fakes. If we could make good fakes others could too.

Of all the DVDs we got the graphic design quality seems shaky. Bad stills, blurry text at times. It makes we wonder why they are not designed so well. The Peter Pan has an orangey 'Limited Issue' banner instead of the gold one and has some blurry specs on the back at the bottom while the others are not as bad.

I opened my copy of my 'Lady and the Tramp' which had the security stickers on but no plastic wrap. Inside there was no security sticker and the cover if pulled out and the chapter index are very glossy.

Could they be fakes? Peter Pan and Lady are the two I'm wondering about the most. The others seem real although still designed poorly. I would love to open them and check them out but I don't think I would be allowed.

I was only wondering if your Lady and the Tramp is jumpy in the main menu screen my is and it plays perfect. I own The Little Mermaid, LATT, TJB and 101 Dalmatians which were all real. They are real if they have a plastic circle where you put your finger. LATT was new but the others were used by one owner. :D

We recently got The Jungle Book, Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan, Pinocchio and 101 Dalmations. We are on a quest to get them all and we are almost there. :)

My Lady and the Tramp isn't jumpy and it plays well and looks like a DVD but DVD burning produces the same results. I'm still sort of skeptical especially with Peter Pan.

Is your Lady and the Tramp as glossy as mine? The chapter index is glossier than any DVD insert I've ever seen. I just find it odd but I don't know much about the Limited Issue releases. The cover is the same way. The logo is bronze and that looks pretty real but I have the ability to print colours like that so anything is possible.

Oh I forgot to ask... what do you mean by the plastic centre where you put your finger? The centre of the disc? It's got artwork up until the centre and does not have any clear plastic showing like many older DVDs seemed to have.

I believe overly glossy inserts are one of the symptoms of a bootleg.

Yes, the center has to be plastic or it's probaby a fake.

I'll find a picture on ebay.

Well lets see.

I would describe the insert as being slightly more glossy than normal for Lady and the Tramp. It is one of the rough dvds too.

Lady and the Tramp has the raised characters on the disk too. You really cant see it by your eye, but if you run your fingers over the characters they are slightly raised over the rest of the graphics.

Yeah it looks so fake after I examine it... the glossiness, the disc itself and the artwork. I must say it's one of the most convincing bootlegs ever... besides lack of shrinkwrap.

My friend has bought a number of Limited Editions and I wasn't going to but I couldn't help it. I wanted Lady and the Tramp so badly I got her to win one for me on ebay. The seller had 100% positive feedback I believe. Not a single negative comment.

My friend decided to open all of the Limited Issue DVDs she got and well I have never seen such a wide assortment of coverstock for their covers. I wouldn't be surprised if they were all fakes. So far I know two are for sure. I should have done more research but I wasn't the one buying originally and all the people we bought 'em from had great feedback.

I'm mad but part of me is just so impressed at the work they did and then I realized I have the ability to make a copy even more professional but I would never get into the bootleg game. :P

Oh I forgot to mention we had a chapter index we got from Rogers video from the Limited Issue DVD and compared it to the one we got off of Ebay and it was an obvious fake. That sealed it. I'm just puzzled as to why they made it so glossy and the scan job was good but not crystal clear.

Poor orestes. :(
Now you know..
 no matter how many "perfect bootlegs" a seller sells, he or she will get positive feedback so the buyer can also have positive feedback. It's a give and take thing. :headshake:

Bootlegs who could easily be confused with original DVDs...
what´s next, better extras on a bootleg DVD than on an original DVD?

Quite honestly, I would rather have a really high quality bootleg than nothing at all(like I do with Cinderella and Song of the South)

The same thing happenned to me this week after I bought The Little Mermaid Limited Issue on eBay!

After examining it well and comparing to a real other LE, I came to the conclusion that is was a bootleg, even tough it was sealed with security banner. They are really getting better with designnig the bootleg copies but they won't have me ! :) I got a refund from the seller.

An update on the situation. My friend left nagative feedback and he did the same dropping her down to 66% positive. They still are saying it was not a bootleg. It's us against him and the 274 that left positive feedback.

THEY ARE FAKES!

AVOID: helppay4kidscollege

He's selling nothing right now but he was selling a bit. I wonder how many people are associated with that seller. It appears like it's a parent who wants to pay for their kids college by selling on eBay but then you mail to an address that sounds like a company and then you get a package from a name that sounds fake and a signature that looks like it's a kid.

Hey Orestes, Sorry to hear you got some bootlegs..

Even tho a person has positive feedback, doesn't mean they are legit.

Click on the "View Seller's Other Items" link

Then on the left, select the "completed listings" option.

You can then see what the person has sold recently..

The person you purchased from.. had sold the following..

20 Copies Of Beauty And The Beast
58 Copies Of The Little Mermaid
34 Copies Of Pinocchio
33 Copies Of Lady & The Tramp

I read the auction your friend purchased from, they have a return policy. See if you can get your money refunded. Also file a complaint with ebay.

To me, these are bootlegs. There's been the debate that the person is a wholesaler or came across a lot of movies... But the general rule, it's bogus. The seller in question is a new seller since feb. And if you check out the items sold, they are only sold in sets of the 4 listed above... They wait until that set is sold and they the post another batch.. It's too keep you thinking they are all they have.

I'm sorry to hear of your unfair incident on EBay, orestes. But on a lighter note, I'm glad to see that you're back! :D
