Post by Robin Hood »

Why Do They Only Release These In October, I Would Have Loved To Have Seen a Bambi Gift Set. :(

Well just because in the fall there are more family holidays like Christmas, New Years Day and Thanks giving so more people buy gifts during the holidays then in March.
Also March are the re-releases of the less popular Disney films. Also Disney moved forward to sell 2 Platinum’s a year to push forward the Blu-Ray DVD’s.

Wasn't Bambi the first PE in March as well. The rest of the PE so far have been released in October.

Well...October is a great month! ;)
I don't think we have an exact answer...other than MMP's hypothesis.

Personally, I think it would've been great if all the "platinum editions" were released as BOX/GIFTSET so they can stand out!

I think MMP is pretty much on the mark. Of course, we don't know yet that Lady and the Tramp won't have a gift set, do we? It wouldn't surprise me. As I've said before, I don't think Bambi was as fitting for a gift set. I tend to associate those with the more "magical" movies, but I suppose Lion King got one, but it for some reason strikes me as a little more appropriate than Bambi. Go figure.

We'll have to wait and see if this grows to be a trend. We've only seen one release and it wasn't exactly Box Set material. Kinda hard to explain why though! :P

There may be two reasons that there was no gift set for "Bambi":
1) Only the October titles are going to get them, hence the most popular and best-selling ones
2) The "Bambi" DVD was rushed: that's why it's simpler when compared to the other Platinums (but not less good) and there was no gift set to go along with it.

I think Disney was testing to see how sales would go with no gift set and a PE in March. However, I'm not too sure normal people really care about:
1. Gift set or no gift set. Most families don't have enough money for a gift set anyway.
2. Whether or not a DVD is released in March, October or the day Mars crashes into Earth (unlikely )
3. I'm not even too sure they compare their DVD titles. They probably noted that Bambi had two discs and so did Sleeping Beauty. They don't care if one is Platinum Edition or not.

You people are basing Bambi like crazy!

Everybody is here saying "The Least Popular" or "The ones who didn't sell much". Well then what's the point of adding it to the Platinum Line if it didn't do well in VHS sales?
I Think the only reason March releases won't have a gift set is because of time. I think is a long process to design, create, and even think on the overall look; I don't think is that easy as many of us would think. There are only 5 months between October and March and so there isn't enough time t make a gift set. But is obvious that each October release is obviously getting one because the company had a whole year.
Bambi is not less "magical" than our most beloved animated movies, and neither is TLK (whoever said that), every Disney towering classic deserves one but I guess March releases really affected some of the titles.
