Yeah, tragic kid films don't do one. Name family flick that ended tragically and did well in the box office.

Frankly, I do prefer tragic endings. Even as a kid. Two of my favorite animated films ends tragically.

Plague Dogs
Ringing Bell

Plague Dogs is the King of All Tragic Films, IMO. Be it animated or live action, Plague Dogs wins that award from me.
Ringing Bell would have been more tragic if the lamb wasn't so damn funny.

But both these films come from outside of the USA and aren't Disney made. Some of the international animation studios, especially in Japan, are more open to try tragic, more true to life kid's films. And I don't hear of any adverse effects from it. But here in the USA, most parents have their panties tied too tight to except tragic kid flicks. For years my county didn't have Animal Planet because the cable company got a bunch of letter from angry parents and elderly because they said the shows on it were too graphic. Apparently no letters came in when Jerry Springer was shown at 3PM right when the kiddies get off from school

I just watched The Black Cauldron and it's not as bad as some people say. I really enjoyed it. I find the movie is underrated.

Isidour>Fraid not. We got Animal Planet for a few months and suddenly it was off the map. I called cable and that's what they told me. The woman agreed with me that it was stupid. I wrote editorials to the paper and everything about how ignorant those letter writers are. That be it God or evolution, the animals were created for the sole purpose of kill or be killed. And to think that Animal Planet is violent, perhaps they should look inside themselves and see that humans kill and hurt for no other reason but money and pleasure. Animals do it to survive. No one puts out a can of 9Lives for the leopard. She has no choice but to kill. After the cable company was taken over by Shaw, they reinstated Animal Planet.

That's pretty scary. I mean, animals gotta survive, and there's nothing wrong with being educated about their way of life.

Unless those people are strict vegans (and I highly doubt it), they're totally being hypocritical. Does somebody wave a wand and make their hamburgers, chicken, pork, eggs, etc. magically appear out of nowhere? Or is it okay just because they're not the ones that have to do the killing?

Well after all this animal talk, I think we can safely say the "Worst Disney Film Ever" award must go to the True-Life Adventures film starring the lemmings! :D

Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

 rotfl

I'll agree with ya there! I've always wanted to see those True-Life Adventures, actually. I was excited about the announcement of the Treasures set a few years back, but of course, it's been pushed back in favor of other titles. In fact, my great uncle did some of the filming for Water Birds, which is available on The Recuers DVD (he had nothing to do with any lemmings, I swear!) I'm hoping that Perri will be released with the eventual set; at least they could admit that one was staged!

On another board, we were discussing vultures and this one girl said, "It just disgusts me that they eat dead animals"

I asked her, "When was the last time you ate a living and breathing hamburger? You do know they come from dead animals, right?"

Hehehe...Ignorance and hypocricy abounds.

I myself am kinda weird about eating meat. I am certainly no vegan. I eat chicken and turkey and a little pork. But I cannot eat it off the bone. Something about that bothers me. For me. I can watch other's do it and now feel bothered. It's just the feeling on teeth on bone. It reminds me it was alive once. I know it is stupid. But if I ever owned a pet chicken, turkey, or pig, I wouldn't be buying it from the grocery store anymore. That's all it takes to turn me to a vegan. :P
I stayed at my grandmothers farm in Puerto Rico for a month, didn't touch chicken all month long. Going out to feed them and pet them and going inside to be served chicken bothered me.
Again, it's stupid, I know.

I just love to eat the meat from the very bone, like on the babyback ribs on BBQ sausage.
To feel how the meat rips from the bone and taste the little flavor that remains on it....mmm...I...need...M...E...A...T

I've been a vegetarian in the past, and I've been a vegan. It's something I still believe in, but it's really hard to stick with, especially since I'm prone to eating disorders.

I'm not much of a meat person to begin with, and I can go for days without having any. But try going to a restaurant and find nothing but an iceburg salad or a fruit cup on a menu when you choose to be vegan; every meal seems to revolve around meat. Or worse yet, try to eat at a family gathering. Bring a vegan dish and just watch everyone shake their head at you while sticking a forkful of some meat in your face begging you to eat it. People think you're stuck up or that you're out to judge them if you decide to explain why you choose not to eat and use animal products.

Except for [boneless] chicken breast, the meat I eat has to be processed so that it doesn't look like an animal part to me anymore, like a hamburger, otherwise I find it extremely unappetizing. I was even like that as a kid. I've never liked fried chicken because there are bones and ligaments to deal with. I don't like steak because I can see and feel the veins, fat, and bones. Heh; my mom once taught me how to cut a raw chicken in order to fry it up, and I couldn't eat any chicken at all for three months straight because I couldn't forget the texture of the raw flesh or the fact that it was once a living, breathing, feeling animal which quite literally made me sick to my stomach. Heh. And my dad grew up on an old-school farm, shooting rabbits and killing chickens with his bare hands!

There are lots of other reasons I'd like to ease into becoming a vegan again, but a lot of people seem to find them offensive so I'll leave it at that.

I was a half vegan once. And I too am prone to eating disorders. I didn't eat any meat, however, I drank milk and ate eggs.

I know exactly what you mean about going out to eat as a vegan! IMPOSSIBLE!

And then in high school, I was in a Food Science class. We had to do an experiment where we made the same cake, but each group used a different ingriedient. Butter, Margarine, Oil, and Lard. Figures, my group got the Lard. I was okay with making the cake, but I went to the teacher and told her I could not complete the experiment for I would not eat the cake with the lard in it. She told me it wasn't my religious belief not to eat meat and I won't taste it anyways. Back and forth we went with
You can't taste it.
Yeah, but I know it is still there.

Over and over again. Finally she told me to eat the cake or get an F. I didn't eat the cake, she gave me an F. I went to the dean's office and talked with with dean and then had my mother threaten the dean with a lawsuit because though it was not in my religion, it was a spiritual reason I did not eat meat at the time. Also this was during my time after I got a cow's tooth in a burger and was pretty traumatized by it. The dean forced the teacher to turn my F into a C and she forever hated me.

But yeah, the cow's tooth. Got a burger at Burger King once and it was in it. Along with an unidentified bone. We brought it to the attention of the manager and he was a jerk. We weren't sue happy people and at the time, my mom figured I was just going through a stage of disgust over it and would get better and be back to eating meat. That one tooth is one of the things triggered my eating disorders later in life. We look back now and wish we did sue them. But what can you do now? He took the tooth and threw it away and offered us a free meal (yeah, like we wanted a burger from them after that!) So I am okay now with eating chicken and turkey and pork (but only as breakfast sausage or in Chinese fried rice). But to this day, red meat literally makes me vomit, if I taste it. It use to be worse, the mere sight of it made me sick. I got better, but if I accidently taste it, I feel sick. If it touches my plate, then everything must go. My father played a trick on me one day at Disney World and mixed his vegtables that were soaked in meat juice on my plate and I didn't know. I took a bite and thankfully got to the bathroom in time. Of course the Disney people were freaking thinking it was something in the food that did it  But, no, it was my father thinking he was cute.

Totally off topic now...sorry...But I did mention Disney World ;)

Yikes, finding a cow tooth in a hamburger would totally freak me out! I've occasionally found a small bone chip in a hamburger and it takes me a while before I can eat one again. I always seem to go back to it for some reason, though.

Still, just talking about this is enough to make me want to skip out on burgers for a while.

I also tend to think about the inhumane treatment that most of those animals go through for the sake of the food industry, and that also makes me sick.

I'm actually prone to having addictions to food, but there were two times in my life that I literally starved myself for months at a time for the sake of losing weight. My family has a history of weight problems and I'm no exception. One of the major reasons I'd like to be a vegan is for the health benefits, but I tend to get carried away and I totally obsess over everything I put in my mouth, and that doesn't exactly help me out health-wise.

Anyway, shame on that teacher for trying to force you into eating that cake. Some people have no tolerance for other people's beliefs.

Um, to get back to topic, have I ever mentioned how much I love Bambi?
