Please confirm the new Platinum DVD schedule
I read in the old message board that Disney is planning on moving the little mermaid after aladdin, which means we can get the dvd much earlier. Can someone please confirm this? Also, is it true that they're planning on showing tarzan on Imax? If that's the case, are they gonna add tarzan in the platinum line too? I really hope these aren't just rumors.

They wouldn't add Tarzan to the Platnum lineup because it already has an excellent Collector's Edition. But that doesn't mean the Tarzan CE will be re-released in 2005 with probably a brand new cover and dvd art like the A Bug's Life CE reissue next month.disneyfan wrote: Also, is it true that they're planning on showing tarzan on Imax? Platinum lineup and HD DVD
Hey Luke,
What do you think about this HD DVD thing:

Look at Post #4:
>>>So any reason why Disney feels like they need to release the modern classics all in a row?<<<
Very likely because the Blue Laser DVD format was just given a major industry green light a couple of days ago...
Which pretty much confirms the theory I posited a while back, that Disney will greatly ramp up the release of these deluxe animated "classics" and it won't take anywhere near as long to see them all out, because HD DVD is coming and that represents a whole new market for them to redistribute.<<<

My feeling about HD-DVD is that even if the technology exists, the DVD format is still going to be around and very popular for some time.
I think moving the modern classics ahead might be connected to their IMAX theatrical re-release plans, but that's just my speculation.
As irritating as their 1-a-year Platinum plan is, they've stuck to it for longer than I'd have thought, and they'll probably stick with it no matter what happens. Perhaps in 2011, they'll do Snow White as a Platinum HD-DVD, but I can't even think that far ahead.
So, I guess I think that even if HD-DVD catches on (and it's got a better chance than the tape-based D-VHS thing), Disney might very well stick to their plans and perhaps for the later Platinum releases release DVD and HD-DVD concurrently. (Though if the format is truly backward-compatible, is this even necessary?) I don't really know what I'm saying except that I don't anticipate an accelerated release schedule.
As far as the new Platinum schedule goes, the HTF and Digital Bits most likely got their information from the same place, and it very well could be accurate. But their secret inside info isn't enough to have me change the schedule I have on the site just yet, even if the changes are true, which wouldn't surprise me.

It's funny that this was discussed a month ago, and here we are, with a now TWO a year Platinum schedule. Great job Danny, calling that one. Although I think it had more to do with financial problems,l I think the HD-DVD thing was an added bonus.
I think that maybe, with disney running a little scared and desperate for dvd sales, that we can expect higher quality dvd's. Hopefully meaning that special editions will be 2 discs and that the dvd's will be packed full of all the extra features we want.
