I love this movie!!! I've watched it so many times already, I still haven't gotten to the bonus features.

I love the new scene. I think it fits perfectly, and seemlessly as well. Actually, when I first saw Pocahontas it was on The Wonderful World of Disney and they included the scene, so to me it is the original version! I always wondered where that scene went when I got into the movie a few years later. Anyway, I really love that song. To me, it's the equivilent of A Whole New World. I've been singing it all day. I don't mind Mel's voice. I like that he's doing the singing himself, and he's not too bad, so I still enjoy the song. However, it is true that someone else could have sung it better.

This was the first time I've seen it in its original aspect ratio. It looks amazing. And the quality of the picture is top notch.

The only complaint I have so far with the DVD is that it only has english subtitles. I was hoping it would have Spanish subtitles, so I could sing the songs in Spanish and practice understanding the language for my Spanish 4 class next year...

I know, I'm weird.

I enjoyed the inclusion of "If I Never Knew You" in the movie and especially the part where the dog and the racoon (sorry, i'm bad with names) come in and watch. That was cute. I wish though that they hadn't started singing it again when Pocahontas and John Smith were saying goodbye. It just seemed inappropriate to sing love lines to each other with everyone watching them like that.

The dog is Percy and he was Ratcliff's dog but then became friends with the Racoon and his name is Meeko.

I finally got my hands on the DVD last Saturday and all I can say is... WOW! Finally watching one of my favorite movies in near-perfection quality was mind-blowing. The picture is absolutely wonderful, it really shows off the beauty and complexity of the film's art. I saw no problems with edge enhancement or color banding, the problems that mared the transfer of "Mulan" last year. The only thing I could see that was close to edge enhancement was some very minor ringing around the character's drawing lines when they were displayed against some blue background. But it is so little that it doesn't distract your atention at all and isn't enough to spoil this beautiful digital-to-digital transfer.

The 5.1 mix is also very good, even if it isn't up to the level of the DEHTM tracks. It suits the film well and it makes a very good use of all the chanels so that the soundtrack and sound effects envelop the user. Bass was tight and pronounced and was really put to action when needed.

The thing we were expecting the most on this DVD release was the extended cut of the film, and it really doesn't disappoint. Finally we can watch "Pocahontas" as it should have been seen from the very beginning. "If I Never Knew You" is a beautiful song and it really adds to the development of Pocahontas and John Smith's relationship and makes the ending much more powerful and moving. As for being seamless integrated... well, it was, except for some of the newly-animated scenes. It wasn't bad, but Percy and John Smith (specially at the reprise in the end) looked kind of off model and different from the rest of the film, which is strange considering John Pomeroy worked on the special edition. Of course, most people won't even notice and it isn't enough for me to think that this isn't de ultimate "Pocahontas" edition.

Even if they were mostly recycled from the LD, the extras were great and gave us a very good overview on the production. The galleries were really extensive and the art displayed on them was one of the most beautiful produced for a Disney film. The interviews with the animators were compelling and interesting, and I specially liked the animation tests (I wish more Disney DVDs would include them). The newly-recorded commentary was a fun listen, and it was nice to hear the filmmakers reminisce about the film all these years after its released (and they seem to be very proud of their work and speak of it as a really successful film).
There are a few extras from the LD that don't show up here, the ones talking about the real Pocahontas and giving some perspective on the film being the ones that are missed the most (as well as some additional test animation and art galleries). Still, this is one of Disney's best releases and it finally gives "Pocahontas" the royal treatment it deserves.

Question, I'm really not a fan of the movie. But because Disney produces some great dvd's is it worth buying just for the extras?

The video quality REALLY improved.

But the audio!!! Come on!!! It's horrible! 5.1?!!! Yeah right.... The Batman release (one of the first DVDs) has "5.1" also; meaning its mostly stereo... but at least the action sequences make use of the rear speakers.... Take for instance the "Savages" song... it needed to be heard in a way to blow you away... its the CLIMAX!!! and it sounds so low; this happens as the movie progresses. What a lame and lazy effort! even MULAN that doesn't have a the Disney mix... rocks!

For me, the movie is weird in a way that it gets so much better as the story progresses, but the first part is slow and boring. I was just thinking that the first action sequence before the title screen is way off place. It goes nowhere and if you take it out you miss nothing... just improve it.

On the bonus features, I enjoyed the Colors Of The Wind multi-lingual reel. My second language was on there.

i have never watched this but it seems like something i would love, the animation looks amazing and it was around the time of the lion king which is saying good

Oh I suspect you'll be disappointed. The movie is good, and truely is a marvel just to see. But it's no way up to par with other classics. It definetly doesn't have The Lion King wow "effect" but it's a fun romantic story. Approach this movie without expectations of the time period and you'll be greatly satisfied!

So, I know its rather random to bring this up...anyways. I love Pocahontas...however I did NOT like the sequel! I decided to watch Pocahontas randomly on Friday...then on Saturday I decided to watch Pocahontas II...

Yeah, it's one of those movies I'm just going to pretend didn't happen...It was okay from the start, but then I just hated when John Smith came alone....geeze what a unsatisfying reunion!!! WHERE WAS ALL THE MUSIC THE COLORS AN THE LEAVES?? Haha but anyway, yeah, it was so sad seeing Pocahontas kiss John Rolf at the end and sail away. It didn't even seem like they liked each other that much. I did however, like that "Where do I go from here" song. I know Disney was "trying" to be more historically accurate...but c'mon...the first one isn't even that accurate! At least suger coat it just a little more...It's just makes the first love story feel a bit pointless.

So...Pocahontas II:JTTNW...wow long title...gets a D- from me...

i honeslt ybeleive Pocahontas 2 is a cult classic among disney movies. i personally loved the sequel! its the only disney sequel besides the lion king and aladdin sequels i have enjoyed.

Ah I see, yeah I'm pretty sure there are some hardcore Pocahontas fans that really like this one. Or some that don't like Pocahontas but like this movie. I guess I'm just one of the nay-sayers lol. I mean it has some points that I did enjoy, but as for story, its just something I'd rather not remember heh.

Quick question - The Pocahontas SE DVD was supposed to be part of the new Disney Magical Places promotion for Disney Movie Rewards, except I bought the DVD and there wasn't a code sheet inside.

Are they re-packaging the film with the codes so I got mine too early, or was it a mix-up I didn't have the code insert?
