new DVD line for boys.....?

Post by The Monkey's Uncle »

I have and idea for a new line of DVD's, because im tired of disney aiming everything to girls! this can be like the princess DVD's but instead be "disney heroes". They can contain episodes of the aladdin, tarzan, and hercules tv series. and in my world, the cases would be blue. :)

They may have thought of it but haven't introduced it yet. If not, well then they should. That would be interesting.

oh you know Disney...
they're probably hiding the GOOD ideas by releasing the BAD ideas first (*ahem, certain sequels*). ;)

i like the Disney Heroes idea! :thumb:

i agree, and i bet it has been mentioned. They might be seeing how the disney princess line sells, maybe this will start soon if that line sells well. I mean afterall the disney heroes does have it's own section in the disney store now, that must mean there is a market.

Yeah that wouldn't be a bad idea. Blue DVD cases, I can see it now. I would buy that set deffinately. I am sick of the "Disney Princess" line also. It is highly overrated.

If you think the Princess line is overrated, why would you buy a line for boys? It'd probably be almost equilavent in terms of format, content, and presentation.

They already have a line aimed at boys called "Disney Adventurers", featuring Hercules, Peter Pan, and Aladdin merchandise. I'm guessing that it must not have been productive enough to produce DVD sets - otherwise, I'm sure they already would have.

The thing with the "Disney Princesses" line is although the cases are pink and the whole motif is for girls...they're mostly made up of old TV episodes which aren't even always princess-centric and certainly can be enjoyed by boys. A "Disney Heroes" line with the same thing would be as disappointing as the Disney Princess DVDs are, and it's not as successful a line of merchandise, I'm sure.

I don't believe they're aiming "everything" for girls just because they have one series of DVDs or such.

If the princess things end up making a suitable amount of money, then the heroes idea would probably be a good one. If not, then it would probably flunk out as well. Boys may not watch animation as much as girls do.

We actually have a merchandise set like that in England actually called Disney Heroes featuring merchandise linked to Robin Hood, Peter Pan, The Sword in the Stone, Hercules and Aladdin. It's not nearly as big as the Princess franchise, which is a good thing, as the sheer bigness of that franchise is just plain irritating.

Anybody here think that they should have some Disney Villains merchandise, including a Disney Villains Sing Along Songs DVD? Okay, I'll be quiet. :shifty:

i actually saw some watches at wal-mart with "Disney heroes". if i recall the princess franshise started small also. it took a couple years for the DVDs to come out.

If i made these DVD's they, would be better than the princess ones, in terms of quanity. but i know disney would make them suck. :)

But they already have a Disney Heroes DVD! Gargoyles ;)

Seriously, I do love the idea. Aladdin, Tarzan, and Hercules would be great on DVD. Also, they maybe could throw in some Disney Afternoon episodes from Darkwing Duck, Ducktales, Talespin, Chip and Dale and the others. And an episode or two of Gargoyles wouldn't hurt it either ;)

Yeah I guess you are right, it would probablly turn into the same mess the Princess line is in.

the quantity of the princess line doesn't bother me, it just bothers me how the line sucks so bad! i think they should take the princess line in a different direction, instead of all cutesie... maybe they should go elegant, i think young and old would appreciate this! i would anyways

.... i agree with wonderlicious, a villan line would be fun. In fact when i went to disney world with my band and chorus in 2003 they had special disney villan dolls, my friend bought jafar and it really is cool lookin. i'm not sure if they had any others but if memory serves me right he bought it while exiting the pirates of the carribean. anyone else know anything about this?

If it even closely resembles the Princess line than I wouldn't come even close to it. Just the cover to those things makes me shudder

Well, no offence, but my guess is that Disney was aiming for little girls on the Disney Princess DVD's. I don't particularly have any urge to buy them either, but if I bet a pre-school age girl would disagree, and think they are great. If they made a hero's line it would probably be the same thing.

I'm sorta surprised (but not disappointed) that the "girl power" trip has lasted this long.

I would have gone crazy for something like these releases as a kid. No matter what anyone thinks, they are a great introduction fo the magic of Disney for little girls.

Of course, times were a bit different when I was a kid. Disney movies weren't as readily available back then. Man, I remember when a Disney video went for around $80 and a rental alone was $20!!! And there wasn't even much of a selection: Pinicchio, Dumbo, Chip and Dale. . . they didn't really become mainstream until after 1986. Anyway, I think my point is that I snagged onto anything I possibly could back then because Disney films were hard to come by, so maybe these releases don't seem as important as they would have back been then.

There actually used to be a Disney's Villan store at Disneyland. I know there is a Disney Villan line. I have a Disney Villan towel (hanging up in my room as a tapestry!) as well as a Maleficent t-shirt and a Malicent doll. I think the Disney's Villian store at Disneyland didn't make enough profit. It had its own store in Fantasyland, then moved to New Orleans Square. The shop in NOS is now mainly a 'Nightmare Before Christmas' store.

Other dolls they have include Jafar, Maleficent, Cruella De Vil and Captain Hook (from my memory). There may be others?

It seems like our wishes have been granted, as very soon, a Disney Heroes DVD is released in Merrie Olde England:

I would think eventually, a sure-fire DVD release of Disney heroes would be the cross-over episode of Hercules with Aladdin. I have personally never seen this episode, but I know it exists. It takes place when Hercules is a teenager, along the same age as Aladdin, and for a while, they are convinced they are each other's enemies. Anyway, the both become friends in the end (duh...) and Aladdin leaves Greece with Jasmine for his native Arabia. :)
