What Disney Movie Did You Just Watch? Vol. 2

Let's see... I babysat last night so here's a looooong list:

The Emperor's New Groove - BOOM, BABY! One of my top 5 Disney flicks of all time. Not much more to say.

Sleeping Beauty - Surprisingly, I watched this AFTER I put my niece to bed. heh. I hadn't seen it in years upon years...and I was surprised. It was really, really good. Better than I remember.

Oliver & Company - Hum...I dunno. I hadn't seen this movie in years either. It wasnt really that good, IMO, but it wasn't really awful either. I prefer the live action Oliver Twist that Disney did...they didn't hack up the story so much in that one.

For the first time, I really really liked it.

Great little flm that I haven't seen in awhile. The Rhapsody in Blue segment remains a highlight.

I dont know I have been a weird kind of mood lately I have seen nothing but Christmas films....

It all started with Eloise: Christmas @ the plaza (A filim I love just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Recess :Miracle on 3rd street (I miss the cartoons)

Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas.

I dont know if I am celebrating X-mas way late or way early either way it has been nice I cant wait for X-mas this year!

I just watched Heidi. It was the DVD and I loved it. It was nice that they added everything back in that had originally been deleted. Out of all the Heidi's out there, this is my favourite one.

I just finished watching The Emperor's New Groove. I can never get sick of this movie. It's such a great Dinsey movie with awesome and hilarious characters. It has a great voice cast aswell. For those of you who haven't yet seen this I don't know what your waiting for.

Whoop! I love this film! It deserves to get a 2 disc SE treatment with... oh hang on!

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

The One that started it all, and still the fairest of them all! As long as you don't look at her face! And squint when you look at the prince, so you don't lose all will to live! They say in the bonus features that the hardest thing to animate is a young male, and looking at him, I can believe it!

Sleeping Beauty

I always underrate this film, and as soon as I see It I am like WOW! Unfortunately about an hour after I have finished I slip back into thinking "meh"! I'm back at the "meh" stage now!

The Black Cauldron

Is it Cinemascope? It it Technirama 70? We'll leave that for a vengeful deathie to decide! If ever there was a film in need af restoration and an upgrade it's this one! And if the rumours about what's on the cutting room floor is true "The Black Cauldron: 6 Disc edition" is not that improbable!

* Pocahontas - Yep, still amazingly underrated!

* The Lion King Making of featurettes - You know, when you watch them all together, and ignore all the praise and fluff, it actually reveals some interesting tid bits! I swear!!

Bambi

I thought this movie was the most boring thing ever produced of the Walt Disney Studios a few years back. Now I love it:
1. I love the storyline especially the scenes with Bambi growing up and everything with Thumper.
2. The music that's playing when all the deer are running out of the meadow is marvelous. It goes right along with the scene.

It's great watching the film in all its CinemaScope glory, but it's a shame the DVD isn't anamorphically enhanced. One more reason to look forward to the Platinum Edition.

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad: The Wind in the Willows segment is one of the best cartoons I've ever seen. It's really fun and exciting! Ichabod rather bored me a little. But that's not saying Ichabod was bad sinc it was quite entertaining!

Lately I have seen quite a few Disney movies.

Stitch the movie I can hardly wait for SE Lilo and Stitch and of course the Sequal Stitch has a glitch.

Mulan 2 seems that everytime I watch the movie it gorws on me a little bit more.

Kim Possible The movie: So the Drama I actually really liked this move defintley something I'll pick up later on in the year.

Let's see, since I last posted, there was the KP movie (but you can read my thoughts in the review) and Pocahontas (and I'll be posting my thoughts in its specific thread soon), and then yesterday & today I watched Walt Disney Treasures: Disneyland USA.

I adore this set! It was an emotional viewing experience, but a happy one. There's a great sense of nostalgia and pride that goes with watching these. There's a lot of Walt to be seen (and even some of Ronald Reagan!), and some real classic moments of Disney and American history captured in their entirety. All those great, classic jazz performances were an unexpected treat too! Even if it has less on it than most of the Treasures sets, it's one of my favorites (if not THE favorite). But then, this is only the second Treasure set that I have completely gone through, beginning to end. I'll definitely watch this one time and time again throughout the years, and watching it now fit perfectly with the 50th anniversary almost upon us, and the new Disneyland DVD on its way (can't wait for that!) Of course, Jack's nice review guided my viewing along the way.

A question: Leonard Maltin, perhaps at his most enthusiastic here, said that "Disneyland After Dark" had "enough markee power to be released theatrically overseas." Did he mean that it could have been, or that it actually was?

What's censored?

"Disneyland After Dark" was indeed released theatrically overseas. It was a common practice to release Disney TV material on cinemas in international territories in those days.

As for censorship, three out of the four shows have been modified from the original presentation.
Dateline Disneyland: a segment of the Mouseketeers making a performance has been edited out, maybe because of judicial issues. It was later included in the Mickey Mouse Club Treasures set.
Disneyland After Dark: infamous "Don't Try This At Home" warnings have been inserted.
Disneyland 10th Anniversary: some parts of the Tikki Room presentation were edited out, while the original version showed the complete atraction.

I think the title of the movie refers to both: Simba's kingdom (Simba's pride) and the one who Simba is proud of (Kiara).
