Still, I really do want to see BALTO Special Edition with a newly remastered 16x9 anamorphic transfer, director's commentary, making of doccumentary, and the trailer in proper 16x9 OAR as well as still gallaries and whatever else they want to throw on there.

Oh, I understand. I started collecting only a year or two ago, only buying Disney movies, and thankfully almost all the ones I have are anamorphic and all are in their OAR. Is Balto planned to be a Special Edition soon?

Not that I know of, and frankly I doubt it. If they're smart they might do it to coincide with next year's Balto III, but I don't think so because if they cropped it in the first place to match the second movie, there doesn't stand much hope they'd do a total 180 and do a great DVD to go along with the third. If they're smart they'll do it, but I don't think so.

The other alternative, which I hope and think might work out, is getting 10th Anniversary Special Edition in 2005 with all the trimmings. But if Universal continues to treat the anniversaries the way they're treating Land Before Time's, the 10th anniversary SE won't be much of an improvement over the disc we've got now.

I assume that you mean TLBT, since that is what this thread is about, although sometimes threads do seem to go astray...

I thought TLBT came out in the 80's so how could it be there 10th Anniversary!?!

It was released in 1988. Its the 15th year anniversary.

You know, what makes this all the more pathetic is that I recently found out that there's no less than 10 minutes that have been cut from the original film - fully animated and everything.

That accounts for why the film is so damn short, I'd say. Spielberg and Lucas reviewed the film late in its production, and were dismayed at several parts involving the tyrannosaur. The early sequences, where the "Sharp Tooth" pursues Cera and Littlefoot through the briars, and also when Littlefoot's mother fends him off, were apparently so dark and scary that the two producers were frightened themselves. (Dunno how much truth there is to the last part - I find it very hard to believe two grown men could honestly be scared by a cartoon dino.) In any case, they believed this stuff would severely frighten children - maybe even do psychological damage. So 19 scenes from those early sequences - mostly some ghastly close-ups and such, from what I've read - were cut out, never to see the light of day. Several of Cera and Littlefoot's screams were also edited to softer exclamations (gasps and whatnot). Don Bluth didn't like it, but it ended up that he and Spielberg really wanted to make 2 different films. What a surprise.

Sad thing is, these sequences were approved in storyboard before. This was final animation that was cut. Over $1 million in production costs were thrown down the drain with those cuts.

And to know that this deleted footage exists, and that Bluth and company would be more than happy to contribute to a Special Edition dvd - what a wasted opportunity.

Add another title to my dream Special Editions list...

God! Those sequences seem so awesome! And after Jurassic Park came out and all, I don't think those scenes would be as scary as they were back then. I think aALL of that and MORE should be on this 2 disc Anniversary Edition, I think it could be a jam packed 2 disc easy!!! Also if the scenes really are too scary for children, they should just put a warning before them on the disc, God I would love for this film to get the amazing treatment it deserves, I really like this movie, and I think it's even better than the Lion King!

Anyway that just what I think, I hope they surprise us with something great, cause TLBT really does deserve it, I would also love to see a 2disc SE for the Secret of NIHM!

Bob Golic i guess voices someone in the movie

or since land before time movie seem to get different characters and they use big name people to voice them maybe he was bob golic in the college years. personally i have no clue who bob golic is!

About 1:33.1 DVDs, I've never bought any! and I will never spend $$$ to promote it or mislead the studios that P&S is what I want, even if I really want the movie and there's no other version! P&S must die with VHS! They should be thrown into the fire pits that burn with sulfur!

Well I was thoroughly dissappionted The Land Before Time Anniversary Edition didn't even come in Widescreen

, I mean they already released a fullscreen version so why not make this one widescreen, I mean thats what dvd is all about otherwise they should just realease VHS! Urg!!! For an "Anniversary Edition" this one looks to be very sub par, however, I really like the movie, but I gave away my old VHS so should I just suck it up and buy this, or should I hold out for a better release in the future?

Complain to them Alex, if they get enough maybe appropriate action will be taken. Just like what they did with the Willy Wonka DVD, there were so many complaints about the fullscreen that they re-released it in wide. After you get the widescreen disc go over to Poco's house and make her watch it, she'll love it!

I wouldnt buy anything that was recomposed to fit my screen

so I think you should let that DVD be and sink to the bottom of the charts and universal will see that we want W I D E. so be patient and dont waste you money!
