Star Wars DVD Box Set...
Star Wars DVD Box Set...
I love the orginal Star Wars, but I have not had the $45 to buy the Trilogy on DVD (I have it on VHS), I even hesitate to buy the DVD version bc of the fact it is not the theatrical release, but a newer/fixed version, which bugs me.
Is this a limited thing, like some of the Disney movies, or will they be available forever? I'd hate to miss my chance to get a set for my collection.

Re: Star Wars
I agree with you there. It's "too new"..I didn't like it. But I still don't regret buying it because it was only $35 ish at Wal-Mart on the first week it was released!PMcOuntry wrote:I love the orginal Star Wars, but I have not had the $45 to buy the Trilogy on DVD (I have it on VHS), I even hesitate to buy the DVD version bc of the fact it is not the theatrical release, but a newer/fixed version, which bugs me.

I doubt it'll go OOP (like Disney

I'm pretty sure it was promoted as being LIMITED. But then again the original Saving Private Ryan was a Limited Edition that seemed to be fully available for 4 years. So the word Limited doesn't really mean much.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Well Disney isn't the only company that make DVDs that go out-of-print. I heard E.T. went OOP and I hear the Back To The Future set will sometime go OOP.
Am I the only one who likes the changes George Lucas made to the Star Wars films. Because if Lucas had the money and the time back then he would've made Star Wars look exactly like the "untheatrical release" do today! Besides the new Star Wars looks much better then the "theatrical releases"!

E.T.'s nice collection is out of print.Timon/Pumba fan wrote:Well Disney isn't the only company that make DVDs that go out-of-print. I heard E.T. went OOP and I hear the Back To The Future set will sometime go OOP.
Back to the Future might; I noticed the prices dropped.(http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... php?t=6625)

I thought that the DVD release was the best version of the originals films released so far.Timon/Pumba fan wrote:Well Disney isn't the only company that make DVDs that go out-of-print. I heard E.T. went OOP and I hear the Back To The Future set will sometime go OOP.

As far as the original "theatrical releases" you have to remember that the films came out long before home video was popular, so they weren't really designed for that. On the big screen, they looked fine. There were no visible matte lines but on home video they are much more noticeable. A lot of the changes were to get rid of things like that and for the most part no one even really noticed those changes. I think that if both versions of the films were released on the DVD set, most people would end up watching the newer versions more no matter how much they complain about them online.

Erm...well...I don't like Star Wars. Why you ask?
Harry Potter 4 is being released this year as well, and the music will be different because Star Wars took back John Williams because they decided to make another sequel. So now Harry Potter 4 won't have John Williams to compose music for them. I mean come on, Star Wars had their moments...now it's time for another thing to have its shine.
Gosh Star Wars take out all the fun for kids.
I guess Star Wars is okay, but I really think it's sequels are unnecessary.

I really like Star Wars, although I'm not a "fanatic" over them, but I really enjoy them. I love the originals, mistakes, "effects" and all. I'm one of those ppl who hate it when they take a good classic and "make it better". So it bugged me when he added stuff and changed the effects. I've seen on websites where they outline the changes and until I see it on DVD I'm not imrpessed/don't like them.

I don't think that Star Wars "took John Williams back." LOL, he's a composer, its his job to compose music for films and he's been with this series a heck of a lot longer than the Potter series. Incidentally, I read that the real reason they aren't getting Williams back is because they are going to use a bunch of rock bands in the latest Potter soundtrack.magicalwands wrote:Erm...well...I don't like Star Wars. I love the Harry Potter soundtracks, they are great!
As for Star Wars sequels, yeah that could have been left alone, but he had to otherwise we would have forever gone, why did he start at IV?
I just think it's odd that he made it look like in the first I, II, III that the technology was bigger/better, the cities were bigger/better, everything looked nicer... then all of a sudden we are supposed to beleive that everything went to crap and all technology advances were lost?
I know, well that was made in the 70's/80's, yes, I know that, but to keep it all meshing together, he should have kept I, II, III a little less "advanced"...
IMO

You know, the best way to protest the changes if you don't like them? Don't buy the set. It's as simple as that. George Lucas could not care less about what people are saying online as long as the set still sells.PMcOuntry wrote:I really like Star Wars, although I'm not a "fanatic" over them, but I really enjoy them. The problem with this is that many people are blindly loyal or just want the trilogy on DVD that they would buy a version of the movie populated by little pink bunnies if it was released.
Personally, I don't care how much it's been changed. It is HIS movie, not ours. He had the original vision of how this movie would look, and thus he can change that at his own will. We may not like it, but we don't have much of a say in the matter. I actually enjoy most of the changes (The only one I didn't like was at the end of Return of the Jedi, but I understand why they had to do it. For continuity reasons).
Anyways, I guess my point is that if you don't like the fact that the movies have been changed, don't buy the set. That's the only way you can protest it. Don't have the attitude "my sale won't matter", because it will, especially if a lot of other people take up the same kind of stance. Strength in numbers is what is needed here if change is needed, but nobody seems to realize that, go out, buy the set, then come online and complain. Let's put it this way, your online complaints are only registering with the fan community and nobody really important.
Okay, end of rant. Sorry about that. All I hear online anymore (outside of here) is "Well, I hate the changes so much, they completely make the movie not worth owning, but I bought the set anyways." Nobody has the guts to stand up for what they believe in anymore and they give in so quickly. This was not meant as a personal hit against you in any way, shape, or form. As, if you really are against the changes you will avoid the set (as you have so far).
Coming to the content of the set. The 3 movies look and sound great, and the bonus materials are very good. This is the only set of these movies I will be buying (i.e. I refuse to buy any more upgraded versions of the DVDs based on the fact that I'm not THAT big of a fan, and this set cost me quite a bit ($57.99)), so that tells you right there that this is a very high quality release, that I would recommend to fans of the series (provided they aren't necessarily against the changes)
Cheers!
