Help! (Computer Virus)

I think my computer has a virus! I am so pissed off! I do not know what the virus is called but it changed almost all of my mp3's that I had into compressed files(files with the zipper down the middle) Whenever I try to play them it says that the format is un recognized. At first it turned them into WinRar files but I deleted WINRAR and they all became compressed folders, I choose open with and choose to always open with Windows Media Player but they stay as c. folders! and whenever I restart my computer it shows a picture of Avril Lavigne! What is wrong? Please help me fix my computer, is there a patch out there or something for this stupid thing? When I press Ctr+Alt+Del it says that run32 is running, I am assuming this is the virus, please help.

Yeah, I think you have a virus. Now what you do is you try to save everything on a CD, that is if you have a CD/RW drive. After that try to find the recovery disk, it should of came with the computer. Just look at your CDs and if it says, this disk will reformat your hard-drive that's the one. Pop that disk in and turn off your computer and let it rest for a minute, then turn it on again. Instuctions should come up telling you what you want to do and you want the full recovery (full reformat). It will delete all your files, including the OS. Then there should be another disk or the disk you used has Windows or whatever OS you have on your computer. It should automatically load Windows back onto your system. When you finally get back to the windows screen, it'll be like you just bought the computer, you'll have to do all that registrating stuff and what not.

Is there anyway that I can fix it without loosing everything? M y computer was built and doesn't have the disc with it or anything. All I want to do is convert my files back to mp3 so that they will work again then I will put up a firewall and get a better anti-virus. Please help me out!

Well, seeing how your computer is already infected, if its even infected at all. It's too late, you'll have to wipe everything off your HD to fix it. But I'll look into it more seeing how I've never heard of a computer acting that way. I mean the only logical explanation would be "virus." And your system didn't come with a recovery disk? I mean is it a pretty old system? If its more than 5 years old it's worth it to buy a new one, you can get a pretty decent one cheap. If not, call the manufacture, you'll probably have to speak with someone in India but they should send you a recovery disk. Other than that I don't know what else to do.

Did you download anything that might of caused this recently?
Do you download your MP3 files?
I'm just trying to get some info. it's hard to fix a computer you can't see.
Well here I got an idea, you might neet to put WinRAR back on your computer, because you can use it to "un-zip" those files.

I download stuff on Kazaa but I don't know anything that would have caused this.

I don't know how else to help you. Your computer to me sounds like its behaving very irratically. Do you have a system restore? If you do, I would restore your computer to before this happen that might help. But just as long as it's doing everything else right, I don't think there is any reason to conclude that there is a virus. However, if the restore doesn't work and it still does the same thing I'm afraid that wipping the hard drive will fix it.

Kazaa is probably where you got a virus if you have one. Kazaa is an evil evil thing. I had to reformat my computer because I use to download music off Kazaa and my computer was so full of virus's there was no way to fix it. (and my step-dad is a computer genuis)

OK I don't know much about technology or what not but I am taking an information technology calss and my Professor and a lot of people I have spoken with said that you should definitely not download from KAZAA because they have soooo many viruses b/c it's an open source or something so you probably do have a virus. My teacher said that Winmx is an "ok" site to download compared to others. Just a suggestion!

Yeah what happened is that you probably downloaded a version of Kazaa that hackers made in order to infect your computer. It says so right on their web-site.

I just got done ridding my computer of a visus. Had to format the whole thing. It's a hard fact. But now that I did, it's like a brand new computer.

But before you do and format, go to Microsoft.com and downlow their free AntiSpyware Beta. It is truely the best thing out there, free or not. If it can't help you, nothing can.

It will tell you what virus you have, if any, and help you get rid of them.

rundll32 is a GOOD thing, don't delete it!

Do a search on www.google.com for your error messages.

Any program that you use to DL files from can contain virus', if you DL stuff w/o proper protection, ie virus, firewall, etc. you WILL get virus and they WILL kill your computer. There are even ones that can totally destory your hard drive, forever.

I'm a computer techy, I've been using them for 11+ years and have had several computer courses in computers/fixing/building, etc.

Start there and let me know what Panda says.

I also have a problem, nothing serious but rather annoying.

When I go to turn off my computer it starts to turn off and then gets to the screen that says something to the effect of "computer shutting down". It freezes at this point, and then I have to manually turn it off by pressing the power button.

Does anyone have any information on what might be causing this?

I run Nortin Anti-virus every night, and it has never detected anything.

What OS are you running, if it's Win98, it's known for that problem and there is a patch for it.

I am using Windows XP, the link that you posted didn't have any info for XP

Do you have any suggestions for XP?

I have XP and your not alone my computer does that to me once or twice. I just ignore it because I usally put my computer in hibernate mode.

You didn't install service pack 2 did you? SP2 is known to cause heaps of troubles.

Mine does it every time I try to shut it down, like I said its not that big of a problem, just something that I would like to fix.

The other thing that I noticed I am having a problem with is Power Point. I had to make a power point presentation the other day, and the darn thing was responded very sluggishly. When I go to delete or type in something the curser remains idle for a while, and then eventually catches up with what I am typing or deleting. It made it really hard for me to complete the power point, but fortunately I was patient.

Do you think I should erase Microsoft Office, and re-install it? Would this help my problem?

Go to disk-defrag and click on the "analyze" button. And if it doesn't say you need to defrag, do it anyways. If that doesn't work than yeah just reinstall Microsoft Office. What version do you have?

Sounds like a driver to me. Could also be a memory problem or a sign your battery is getting old and needs replaced.
