The Million Dollar Duck (1971)

Hi, Great review for $1,000,000 duck! It's one of my favourite Live action films! Anyway after looking at a VHS I had taped from the TV that was widescreen, it was just the image from your caps with the top and bottom cut off. So the DVD it thankfully open matte rather than pan and scan as you guessed. Just thought I'd clarify it anyway!

Does the widescreen reduce those too? I imagine they'd be very tightly-framed, if so.

Well as is usual when widescreen films are shown on TV, they are widescreen to start with so all of the credts can be seen but then when the opening credits end they zoom in to make it fullscreen, however still with very small black bars at the top and bottom.

On the VHS i taped I see this:



but like I say that is a zoomed in version of the widescreen,

so if they had not zoomed in on it it would probably have looked like this:

Great review, Luke. On the one hand, I like all the "little" bonus features that are included, but was hoping for more "big" ones, particularly a commentary and a historical documentary of some sort (longer than the 4+minute one included). Still, I loved the movie and eagerly await the DVD!

Awsome review Luke. I never got to see National Treasuer in movie theaters when it came out though I wanted too. So being able to read a bit more on what to expect has made me eager once again on wanting to see it. Though this wil not be a blind buy for me I will be renting it the first day it comes out.

The only other insert is a six-page fold-open mini-booklet which promotes Cinderella and Tarzan II and provides $3 coupons for Pooh's Heffalump Movie and September's Princess DVDs.

And I knew I had to be patient!

Those in possession of the film's Gold Collection DVD have every reason to upgrade, for this two-disc set boasts far superior picture quality, a wealth of supplements...

Wow, that is a great review. You know I've never seen this movie before, but know I really want to. Well at least rent it to see if I like it. Ha, Jon Voight is in it, that's great.

That Pocahontas review was excellent, Luke! I'm extremely excited over this release, and I can tell that I won't be disappointed. It seems to have a shockingly small bit of a fluff in it, though I bet that's more due to Disney being lazy in producing new features than them trying to please film fans. Hopefully the Hunchback: SE (which I do believe we'll be getting around this time next year) will be just as informative.

Thanks for the awesome review, Luke! You pretty much summed up how I feel about the film as well. I'm very excited for this release, and apparently with good reason. The features sound great. I, too, think that I'd like a little more retrospection, but hopelly the commentary and the short new supplement provide enough of that. I'll miss the little booklet that's normally included with the 2-discers, but my only great lamentation is the lack of a historical documentary featurette. As you said, that's a great opportunity missed, but oh well.

Bring on May 3rd! Two big-time Disney DVD releases, Amy's new CD, and a some catalog titles that I'd like to get as well but will be holding out on for now (still, great to see them being released!)

I've already got old gal Pokey on 2 Disc DVD (the earlier release was one of the very few pros of liking Disney and simultaneosly living in England), but that review was cool to read as it was fun to look at other people's opinions on the matter.

On a side note, I believe National Treasure has already been released in England. Hmmm...

Thanks for the kind words on the review! For some reason, this one and <i>National Treasure</i> took longer than usual. Maybe because I wanted them to be better than Ezra. Or something like that.
