Favorite Miyazaki Movie

Post by AnimeFanBoy »

I know, this isn't Disney but i just wanted to put this topic here.

My favorite film by Miyazaki is Spirited Away, beautiful film, but i still need to watch Princess Mononoke over again.

In order :
1. Spirited Away
2. Princess Mononoke
3. Kiki's Delivery Service
4. My Neighbor Totoro
5. Castle In The Sky

I can't wait to watch Nausicaa and Porko Rosso! :D

Yes, I also love Spirited Away :)
First I couldn´t take it, but after half an hour I began to understand how fascinating this feature is. To not talk about the music which is incredible good! I think I have seen it over 10 times by now and I still enjoy and like it very much.
But had it not been that Disney distributed it, I think it should had gone unnoticed by me, since I´m not normally interested in Anime! 8)

I've only seen 3 Miyazaki films, and this is how I rank them:

1. Kiki's Delivery Service (also my favorite non-Disney animated film ever)
2. Spirited Away
3. Princess Mononoke

I want to see My Neighbor Totoro VERY badly, as well as Castle in the Sky. The only Miyazki films that have yet to be released to R1 DVD are Nausicaa of the Valley Wind, Porco Rosso, and My Neighbor Totoro, which I guess will all be released on DVD at the same time like Castle, Kiki, and Spirited were.

Actually, My Neighbor Totoro is avalible from Fox dubbed. You should pick up a copy at suncoast, the only place they have it.

But the Fox DVD is in pan and scan with no bonus material, and Disney purchased the rights to Totoro sometime this year, meaning they'll release it in widescreen with a few bonus features soon like they did with Castle, Kiki, and Spirited.

The characters and the stories in his films are awesome, I am glad that disney picked up intrest in his films. But the way the treat the dvds is dumb.

We dont need to hear how they think of the film, we just want to see the movie. We also need the original japanese audio track. O' well that is why I purchse the R3 discs

I have only seen Spirited Away that I know of...
I have probably seen one or two others, but it is something I have been meaning to explore for some time.
I guess SA wins by default...

But, umm...the R1 DVD's *DO* have the original Japanese language tracks-just not Totoro because that was Fox releasing it rapidly to make a profit before their contract on the film ended and was handed over to Disney. The others, though (Castle, Kiki, Mononoke and Spirited) all have the original Japanese audio.

Personally, I would've liked for all the Disney Miyazaki DVD's to have had more featurettes like Spirited Away as well as commentary by Miyazaki. Who cares if he only speaks Japanese; they can have the commentary subtitled. I was very disappointed when I saw that Kiki's Delivery Service only had a 5 minute interview with the english cast, trailers, and then an entire disc devoted to storyboards. Being that image quality on disc 2 isn't that important since they're just storyboards, Disney should've crammed more stuff there like featurettes and specials. Spirited Away was a very nice DVD even without commentary and I would've liked to have seen all the Miyazaki films get something similar. Ah, well.

I've only seen Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service. I liked them both, and it'd be hard to pick which one was better. Kiki had its feet on the ground (well, actually Kiki flew...but I'm talking about the movie). It just seemed more down-to-earth, and less 'out there.' Kind of more fun to watch. I'd like to see the English dubs of these two - Matthew Lawrence, Phil Hartman, John Ratzenberger, Davleigh Chase, David Ogden Stiers...sounds interesting. I don't like either of them anywhere near the way I feel about my favorite Disney films, but I did like them.

Hard to decide what order I like his films, but I would have to say that Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind would be my favorites, in no particular order.

I have liked every one of his flms I've seen, but Spirited Away is clearly the best IMO.
Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service are also among my favorite films at the moment.

That is what you get for listening to your friends some times. I went by target today and looked at the Spirited Away Disc and saw that it had the Japanese track on it. O' well, I still prefer my R3 Discs.

I'm not a big fan of anime, or japanimation, but I did see Kiki's Delivery Service. I thought it was good, but as Luke said, I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as some of the Disney movies. I've really been hankering to see Spirited Away, so I'm probably going to rent it soon.

I never really liked anime, untill I started hearing all these wonderful things about Spirited Away on the HTF. I decided to give it a try, and I LOVED it. After that, I had to see his other movies. This is how I rate them.

1. Spirited away. (Awesome.)
2. Castle in the Sky. (Another great movie.)
3. Kiki's Delivery Service. (Good.)

I can't wait to see My Neighbor Totoro, and Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind. Porco Rosso may be good too. I'll see them all.

I have no money to buy any of them right now, but I'll definately add Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky to the collection soon!
