Which classics do you think Should Also be a Platinum?
Even though I think all Disney movies should get the 'Platinum' treatment, here are the ones that should be added:
Alice In Wonderland
The Rescuers
The Fox and the Hound
The Great Mouse Detective
Oliver & Company
The Rescuers Down Under
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
There are more (like Pocahontas, Atlantis, or Tarzan, etc.) that should also be added but they have been given very good releases already and I could care less about the title as long as it is a solid DVD!

Alice In Wonderland has already been given the great 2-disc treatment with the Masterpiece Edition. It is already most certainly platinum worthy. However, the rest are good pics, and even though we won't see platinums of them, I'm really hoping that Disney will release 2-disc editions of every single one of it's animated classicsgoofy108 wrote:Even though I think all Disney movies should get the 'Platinum' treatment, here are the ones that should be added:

The only problem with releasing everything on Platinum, though is that it makes the PE no longer special. Everything has it and seeing your favorite Disney movies with the title "Platinum Edition" almost stamped onto the cover and special features galore on the back should be something special.
If Disney released crummy, cheap continuations onto the PE format, sales would go way down and the people will say "we've had enough" or "this is just stupid."

A note to people her: You do realise that a lot of you are saying films already put out in 2 Disc Sets should be platinums, don't you? People are saying Alice in Wonderland, Pocahontas, Mulan and the sequels to The Lion King should be platinum, but what's so bad about the current 2 Disc Editions? A number of those are superior in extras quality to most of the platinum editions, and I think that better extras is better than the word "platinum edition" stamped on the cover.
Alot of people are also saying movies that are already going to have a Platinum release. Like Pinocchio, 101 Dalmations, etc.
I agree with you Wonderlicious. The movies that have already had a 2 disc release are fine. The ones that are in need of a Platinum release are those who only got a gold collection or limited edition release. Those didn't really get any Bonus Features aside from those that were only 1 or 2 minutes long.Wonderlicious wrote:A note to people her: You do realise that a lot of you are saying films already put out in 2 Disc Sets should be platinums, don't you? I would LOVE to have a Sword in the Stone platinum edition.

Here Are The Ones I Would Like To See
Hercules: I thought this movie was great and had tons of entertainment.. The chracters were funny and the music was one of disneys best.. I fell The Movie Though is Unknown because it came Out In 97 I belive and people were stil obsessed With The Lion King an Beauty And The Beast.
The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. The Only reason why they would not make a platinum for this is cause kids rather see Shrek or something. I thought this film was great. It was the "dark side" of Disney.. great cast... and again amazing music. I would think this would be more of the adult platinum cause I see tons of features for this film.
Peter Pan: I think This Needs A 2disc. Its One Of Disneys Classic and its alot of fun to watch. its not my favorite disney Film But I would wanna 2disc.
Well I Dont Kno If This Counts
Toy Story: I would love a platinum for this. This is one of my favorite films and it will always be the best CGI film. This Type Of Film Would have TONS of features. I mean it was the first CGI film that startred it all. I would Like To See how they even thought of this film. And any deleted scences?? They Could Do The Lion King Thing also Where If This Came Out In October Toy Story 2 could be Released In march.... Cause I Would Love A Platinum For that but Id rather want the original toy story. They could have done it this year cause of the 10th annniversary.

The Platinum moniquer means as much as the Gold Collection name meant way back when a lot of us started collecting DVDs.
Disney has completely missed the mark in being consistent and showing respect to their own library of classics. One Platinum release per year? Tell you what, how about two (summer and christmas events). And how about making them as special as the Snow White Platinum release (the best one to date IMO) or as classy as some special editions like Pocahontas, Tarzan or Alice in Wonderland? Mix them up so you have an older classic and a newer classic out the same year. You still have the one year leeway to restore the older films.
Marketing and proper labeling is important for many DVD collectors and Disney fans. Consistency is key in getting people to stick by collecting your product. Gold Collection, Platinum Collection, Anniversary Edition, Disney Treasures, Special Edition, 2-Disc unlabeled editions (Brother Bear anyone?)...come on Disney!
That said, if the Platinum name meant what most of us hope that it meant then my list would include:
Aristocats
Peter Pan
Robin Hood
Fox and the Hound
Dumbo
Sleeping Beauty
Alice In Wonderland
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
Mulan
Tarzan
Oh, and am I the only one that wishes they would have stuck with the fat double cases (Atlantis SE, Tarzan SE, Dinasour SE, Empreror's New Groove SE)? I thought it was cool how those stood out in my shelf as they usually had classier artwork on the cover. I felt like I was getting more for my collecting dollar.
I would trade the skinny cases with the easily damageable slipcovers to get those back any day of the week.
Sorry for the long rant.

The fat double cases are actually pretty neat! Although, they're horrible to replace because they're so rare. Most 2-disc edition go for the single case with two DVD holders inside. My Silly Symphonies black case broke.. can't find another double fat holder.. thing.Solid Liquid Fox wrote: Oh, and am I the only one that wishes they would have stuck with the fat double cases (Atlantis SE, Tarzan SE, Dinasour SE, Empreror's New Groove SE)? Ah yes, Tarzan! This is one "looked over" Disney movie I thouroughly enjoy. Having a Platinum Edition would be great! Bt at the moment I really want the Collector's Edition set..

Atlantis, Tarzan, Dinosaur, and TENG are all CE's dahling!Solid Liquid Fox wrote:Oh, and am I the only one that wishes they would have stuck with the fat double cases (Atlantis SE, Tarzan SE, Dinasour SE, Empreror's New Groove SE)? Yes, I very much prefer those cases...those DVDs stand out.
Also, for SNOW WHITE PE and TRON AE and the Vault Collections (I think that's what they're called..)!

But I like the slipcovers..so everything's fine.

I hate the fat cases because they take up too much room! Give me the skinny cases anyday. Anyways, the moniker doesn't matter at all to me. The only thing that needs to be consistent is the fact that they're two disc editions, and they have the same basic cover design (i.e. Title and special edition moniker segregated from the rest of the artwork in it's own little box designed to fit in with the theme of the movie).Solid Liquid Fox wrote:The Platinum moniquer means as much as the Gold Collection name meant way back when a lot of us started collecting DVDs.

To this end I really hope that they release every animated classic in this format. Even though I won't buy them all, I want the ability to get them all as two disc sets (Especially the "lesser" classics (which I really love!) like The Black Cauldron, Robin Hood, and The Sword In The Stone)
Cheers!
