Hey all, it's my first post after a while of lurking. I just scored a brand new copy of Pinocchio LI for $15.71 total. It was listed as used but when it arrived in the mail today it still had the security sticker on it, although the shrink wrap was gone.

What I can't figure out is why the Pinocchio GC seems to go for so much more than the LI, even though from what I understand they're the exact same disc. Thoughts, anyone?

Welcome to posting, grassmonk!

Hmm, I know someone who was after the GOLD COLLECTION Pinocchio--MickeyMousePal! Like really after it he viewed so many auctions and asked us, "Is this a bootleg?" :p
Jake Lipson wrote:Originally released as the initial "Limited Issue" title October 26, 1999 and later under the "Gold Classic Collection" label March 7, 2000, Pinocchio became the first Disney animated classic ever to be released on DVD, just as it had been for VHS in 1986. Although there had been some hope that the Gold version would be a special edition disc, both releases were identical in every aspect of their disappointing content. The only justification I can think of for releasing it this way is because of how Disney felt about DVD at the time. When they released this gem on DVD, Disney was extremely tepid and unsure of their devotion to the then-new format, so thus their original discs were all barebones.
You can read about the GOLD COLLECTION's review by Jake Lipson.

I think EBAY buyers think "GOLD COLLECTION" sounds better than "Limited Issue" which is probably why there's the big price difference! ;)

Great input so far! my experience is that Ebay is an ultimate source for OOP disney dvds. I have been collecting Disney Dvds for last 2 years. I have often shopped at Ebay for OOP disney titles. I can see some of our UD family members are newbie to Ebay shopping. Therefore, there are some advices i would like to share with rest of you.

1) high percentage of positive feedback (PF) can be deceiving. Always click on the seller's feedback to check. If you have seen some sellers have 98% of 10000 feedback. does it mean that they can be trusted 100%? No, because of 200 non-positive feedback (2% of 10000) the sellers have received. I have seen such a seller at Ebay who has 98% PF of 20000. After I click on his feedback, he has 25 negitive feedbacks(NF)for past month, 65 NF for last 6 months and 130 NF for past 12 months. I wouldn't feel comfortable to deal with him. On the other hand, if the same item is listed by another seller who has 98% of PF out of 100, I would rather dealing with this seller since the seller has only 2 non-positive feedback during the past.

2) don't rush to bid and always read the description well. Most sellers from Asia are selling bootleg Disney dvds. Do Not bid on their auction! However, I have bought some fake dvds from US as well. It proved it is not safe here either. Always ask sellers questions if you have any doubts.

here is some going price for some OOP disney dvds at Ebay. Remember it is just a reference, I am sure you could find a better deal than that.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs NEW <$50 USED<$35
Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians The Jungle Book and The Little MermaidNEW<$50 USED<$28
Beauty and the Beast New<$40 Used <$20
Tarzan CE NEW<$80 Used<$45
TOYBOX New<$140 USED<$100

If anyone has any questions about Disney Dvds listing at Ebay, post the link here. many of our knowledgable members will help!
Cheers! :)

I think I've seen where people sell DVDs without covers or inserts -- Yikes!

The only movies I've successfully purchased from eBay was: "American Legends" with Paul Bunyan, Johnny Appleseed, etc. It was fine, apparently used even while one of the Buena Vista strips was in place on an edge; and a sealed "Mickey Mouse in Black & White V1" -- all seals and Buena Vista stamp present, but no tin, surely from the boxed collection.

I've purchased other DVDs from half.com. A used (with rusty tin) "Mickey Mouse in Living Color V1," a new "The Black Hole", a new "Davy Crockett" Treasure w/tin, and a new "Make Mine Music."

I'm happy and satisfied with my purchases.
My handmade paperweights, including Disney subjects -- some contain viewable movie cells!

Actually most of those were ones sold wholesale towards the end of the line- about 10,600 were made if I recall right. Those were made without the tin entirely. I saw a guy selling a few on ebay and said he bought them from a wholesaler and they never came with a tin at all.

Usually if they came from a boxed set they say "not sold separately" on them.

Oh no, I think I really got screwed on this one! I ordered a Little Mermaid and Lady and the Tramp DVD on ebay and paid the guy. Now it is showing that he is no longer registered. I checked his feedback and he had given out homemade copies! When I bought them he said that he had multiple copies of both and was a power seller so I didn't worry about it. I checked one persons feedback they left for him and they had bought a Little Mermaid from him too and they said that they were pleased with it! He does answer my emails and everything the last one said that the reason he hadn't gotten ahold of me yet was cause his mother had just died. I don't know what to think, what do you all think? Here is a link, please check it out.

I don't think you can be a power seller with only having 78 feedbacks total... it would say it next to his name if he was a power seller. Also 88.5% rating??? WOW that's bad. I'm hesitant when the guy has like 97%! Also the odds of getting 12 legit copies of LI Little Mermaid are VERY small.

The person saying that they were pleased with the Little Mermaid may not have even known much about Disney dvds. A lot of the time the quality of these are inferior (believe me, I have two bootlegs) and you can definitely tell the quality sucks.

I'd bet my right arm that this isn't a legit copy.

Some of the feedbacks said they didn't even get the item! I don't know the ins and outs of getting your money back on ebay but I heard that they have to have some proof that they sent it or you can get your money back from ebay. Someone else with more experience feel free to chime in...

Stitch's Glitch,
How did you pay for the item?
This is what you'll have to do.

- Gather up the seller's info through EBAY.
- Contact EBAY and let them know of your problem.
- Lastly, contact PAYPAL and file a buyer's complaint.

You gotta have a lot of transactions (more than 100...even more) to be a Power Seller.
(I do hope he isn't lying about the mother dying bit, because kharma would be such a bad thing. If he was truthful, he'd at least contact you through phone. I apologize if he was truthful.)

Sorry, he isn't a power seller. I was thinking of another auction I'm bidding on. I guess seeing both of them for 15.00 dollars was just to good to be true. Buy It Now also. I am so furious about this! I hope that they arrive soon. Since Platinum versions of both will be coming soon I guess I can just watch them until then. I am worried about how bad the bootlegs will be. I hope they are at least rips of the DVD and not just some crappy DVD-R without menus, etc.

I have some knowledge of the Ebay market, since I have sold over 6000 Disney movies on Ebay over the past 2 years.

I am a Powersell with 99.9% feedback rating, with over 2000 feebacks. However, you don't have have to have 100 feedbacks to be a powerseller so don't let that fool you. Without going into detail, you only have to sell a certain $$ amount each month to become a PowerSeller and have a 98% or better feedback rating.

Some people only sell one of two big ticket items a month and are Powersellers. It is true that most bootleggers and scammers don't make it to PowerSeller status because it takes at least 3 months of constant sells to reach that status and most either split with the money or have horrible feedback by that time.

I sell a few Disney DVD's however most of my stuff is VHS. My suggestion is to find someone you trust on Ebay that has a good selection and stick with them. Chances are the more people you buy from looking for that incredible deal, then you are bound to get burned.

If anyone ever has a question about an Ebay member or an item feel free to PM me and I'll take a look at it. Or if you ever need that hard to find VHS tape PM me or stop by my store.

Well i've had one great experience and one bad experience.

I wanted the widescreen 2 disc digipack of Monsters Inc (uk), so looked for it on ebay and found it brand new still with the shrinkwrap on, and for only £8.99! I got it straight away, i love it!!! :D

But then i brought Fantasia for £6.00, they said it was brand new and still with shrinkwrap. It came. It was a bootleg :x it had some cheap plastic stuff around the case, the cover quality was awful. So i was quite annoyed about that....

I have many great experiences with eBay.

First - know what you are looking for. Research the DVD. When did it come out? (If they are selling a DVD that hasnt been released then chances are it isnt real) What release are you interested in or which is better?

Second - Do a thorough search. Go through all the auctions and save any that you are interested in on your Favorites or in your 'My eBay'. Watch them occasionally. See who is bidding on them. Whats the price at? Set a max at which you are willing to pay and DONT go over.

Third - Check the sellers feedback. Make sure they dont have any negative feedback that says they sell fakes or any that say 'Buyers Beware!' Now, there are some wierdos out there that put anything in your feedback so dont believe everything you see.

Fourth - Bidding. Now I usually take the 'fly in at the last minute and win the auction by suprise' approach. Everyone else thinks they are about to win and suddenly, I do! (I think once I waited til about 12 seconds before the auction was over to bid but I dont recommend that)

*TIPS* - I dont buy ANYTHING from outside the US. I dont care how cheap it is. I dont want to deal with the risk of shipping overseas or a bootleg. Also, I DO NOT recommend bidding on an auction that does not have a picture of the item. It needs to have a picture, and I when I say picture I mean a digital photo, not the stock photo eBay puts on there. If it doesnt, dont hesitate to ask the seller for some. This just ensures me that I am bidding on a original copy and not some fake someone made. Trust me, I've been ripped off before!

Hope that helped! I consider myself an eBay pro so PM me or just ask me any questions, anytime!

What if the oversees and Canada items have pictures, and it even states "Region 1 Discs" ? The pictures are taken from a digital camera and I've checked that it doesn't have that Europe triangle on it like all of their DVDs...should i still go for it ?

Well...only if you really fill confident. Usually Canada is alright. But stay away from anything like Singapore, Malaysia, China, etc. Its hard to say. Because I won an auction for a James Bond movie that in the picture was a Region 1 but they had obviously used someone else's picture because when I got it it was a total fake! If it looks like a safe buyer I would say go for it.

You should be okay but if you're non-US, remember that you'll need a multi-region DVD player to play European DVDs. I have a multi-region player, so I can watch American DVDs, but I've heard of people over in England buying American DVDs finding out they wouldn't play just as they put the DVD in the machine.

I think MagicalWands stated earlier that it was a Region 1 DVD.

Are you asking about a spicific item? Maybe you could give me a link and I could check it out.

The picture shown was from a digital camera but I think they just got it from someone else selling the same item. Anyway, it was from China and I should have known. You should be okay even though it is from Europe. Are you in Europe? If you feel comfortable, go for it.

Nope, I'm from the US and I'm hoping people won't notice that the item it LOCATED from Europe, not MADE from Europe...because maybe I might get a low price on it because I'm just a kid who has little money and no job. (My cousin bids on it for me in case you were wondering how I shop on Ebay.)
