Fantasia Anthology question

Post by TM2-Megatron »

There's a store which I just discovered has a new and sealed Fantasia Anthology in stock. Besides some hardly unexpected shelf-wear to the not-so-new-shrinkwrap, it seems to be mint. However, the price tag is $75.00 Canadian (about $60 U.S.).

Do you guys here think that price is worth it? I love the Fantasia movies, and I'm not sure when the Fantasia Anthology will be in-print again. And then there's also the possibilty of the next DVD release being superior in terms of bonus content or even transfer quality. Normally, I wouldn't care in a case like this; I'd never buy a single-disc release no matter what, but I'd go for a extra-filled set like the Anthology with no question at its normal retail price; because upgrading years later wouldn't be that much of an issue. But with a cost of $75, upgrading in the future would seem kind of silly, aftering paying so much.

Absolutely. Fantastic set. Price is high but if you want to watch it you are not going to get it cheaper.

I SAY..

GET IT! or you'll regret it!
EBAY prices go much higher than that...even if the DVD is not sealed!

I say get it. You'll regret it.
I don't know how much I got for my set...because Ryan got it new&sealed and won't tell me how much ..until next year. :p

Get it! Worrying about transfer quality, at least for Fantasia 2000, shouldn't be an issue. It's a great set that you shouldn't pass up. I think I probably paid more for mine...

If you can find it, get it. It's out of print and is actually going below the RRP of $70 if you say the price is eqivalent to $60 in US terms, unlike the OOP DVDs like Beauty and the Beast which are going for far higher prices than $30. I'd love to be in your position; due to thinking it would be a waste of money over having these on video, I missed the Anthology and would now love to get this set, but I think that I'll have to wait until the 2011 Platinum with the inevitable Virtual Hippo and Alligator Ballet Class.

i got this set as a birthday gift and love it so much !
i think the bonus Disc is fantasic ! probably the best bonus features to me,
and the two Fantasia is great for lot's of features including two comemtaries from each one,so i don't mind have a upgrade! ( i have the original R3 release )
the only thing is i think Fantasia's picture qulity really can be a lot better,
that means i will have to have the restored release of Fantasia again!

To me the "Clair de Lune" segment alone is easily worth the price of the whole set.

If you're interested, get it.

As long as it doesn't go up in the hundreds-of-dollars range, the price doesn't really matter for a treasure like this, IMO.

If I had to be really restrictive and get rid of most of my Disney DVDs, this one and as many as possible of the Walt Disney Treasures are the ones I'd keep.

Here I have seen it at a grocery store for $60-$85(I can’t remember). For the last few years they have had it and I think they still have the same 3 copies but I did not buy it because I own the single disc copes. At one point I saw a used copy of the 3rd disc and have always regretted not buying it even without the box/cover thing :(

OMG! I saw the Special Features Disc at a flea Market last month for 10 bucks and didn't get it! I can't believe it, what was I thinking? I figured what good would it be without the entire set? I have Fantasia 2000 and it would have been easy to find Fantasia! Why did I do that? I Really wished that I could have seen Fantasia 2000 in Imax but there aren't any Imax theaters around here. I remember how excited I was when I first heard about it coming out cause I hoped that there would be a scene with the Beethoven song "Sonata no. 5" more popularly known as "Moonlight Sonata" That is a brilliant song and I would love to see Disney add Animation to it!
