For the roguish yet charming Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), the crystalline waters of the Caribbean present a vast playground where adventure and mystery abound. But Jack’s idyllic life capsizes after his nemesis, the wily Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) steals his ship, the Black Pearl, and later attacks the town of Port Royal, kidnapping the
Governor’s (Jonathan Pryce) beautiful daughter, Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley). Elizabeth’s childhood friend, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), joins forces with Jack to commandeer the fastest ship in the British fleet, the HMS Interceptor, in a gallant attempt to rescue her and recapture the Black Pearl. The duo and their crew are pursued by Elizabeth’s betrothed, the debonair, ambitious Commodore Norrington (Jack Davenport,
“The Talented Mr. Ripley”) aboard the HMS Dauntless.

Unbeknownst to Will, there is a curse that has doomed Barbossa and his crew to live forever as the undead – when exposed to moonlight, they are transformed into living skeletons. The curse they carry can be broken only if a once-plundered treasure is restored. Stunning visual effects bring these formidable foes to life as our valiant heroes clash mightily with Barbossa and his invincible pirates of the Caribbean.

Well, I haven't seen the film yet, although it looks like my cuppa tea...

DVD looks good, but being Bruckheimer-related we might see another swanky version a few years down the track (like the Rock, Armageddon through Criterion, and Pearl Harbour).

Sounds great though...will see the film on Monday week hopefully!

Its already a content packed 2 disc set, so I think we will be pretty safe buying this. If it is playing in a theater near you, go see it! This was the most fun of all the summer movies this year.

Yeah, that would have been a really awesome bonus...

I went there in 1987 and it is still one of the most vivid memories of Disneyland...would have been cool to see it on there.

Oh well...have to wait for the Ultimate Deluxe Definitive Edition...

EXACTLY what I was thinking. Oh well . . .

I didn't find POTC to be all that great (aside from the enjoyable performance of Johnny Depp) so I don't really plan on buying this. May end up picking it up eventually though. :)

I was really hoping for a small feature on the in-jokes, which references to the ride are in the film. I noticed a lot of them, but I'm sure I missed some, it's been years since I've been to Disneyland.

I too just saw the movie... even though I was visiting in Cal and got to go to Disneyland, a couple weeks ago I did not get a chance to ride this ride  , maybe the future will see me on this ride...

Can not wait for the DVD... well actually I can, but this is a definate addition to the collection when it comes out... those features you guys mentioned should be added, as they would be interesting to view... and how come there is no Orlando Bloom mentioned for either of the commentaries, I think he made that movie, as much as Johnny Dep or anyone else did  ... oh well...

Dec. 2nd certainly will be a strain on the wallet. :P

The only weak part of the movie IMHO is the ending... just htought I'd mention it.

i only hope eisner doesn't try to redo the ride to play off the movie. it's walt's ride and it should stay true to him.

There are no plans to redo the ride. It is going to stay exactly the way it is.

Orlando Bloom was okay in the movie, but Depp definitely stole the show and made the movie. I love PotC, but it wouldn't have been nearly as good if it wasn't for him and his totally wacky performance. I am looking forward to the sequel, very much!

I think there are two rides that are fairly safe at disneyworld, The Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Even i have to admit i was skeptical about a movie based on a ride but it really surprised me and i think a lot of people too. Anyone know what the movie has made so far?

which of course brings up the question. What is the highest grossing live action that bears the "Disney" name. I'm not talking a subsidiary studio, but one that is actually put out under the walt disney name.

Unless I'm way off, this is it.
$281 million is putting it in range of the Top 10 all-time grossing films in the US.
