Being and France and Scandinavia are currently promoting 2 releases in 2004 I guess that thats what they think they are going to do.

I say "think" not out of disrespect for these countries, I just think Disney US will step in and stop them.

We will just have to wait and see - March 2004 isn't that far off.

The Buena Vista Home ENtertainment is not something that works separte from Disney in US. They got all clearance from US before they can do something here. So if this list is confirmed from the BVHE and will take place - we will in fact have both Bambi and Aladdin next year - maybe not as Platinum but on DVD as ordinary releases. Remember that we got Sleeping Beauty here in Europe long time before US got it on DVD this September. The same with the Rescuers. 8)

Well, it's interesting that on the French release, they list Peter Pan and Pinocchio as 'available' now.

Peter Pan is a perfectly reasonable 2 disc set, but is not up to their Platinum standards - especially when so little has been added over the current single disc Special Edition release. Pinocchio is a single disc release.

I just think that given what's happened with Sleeping Beauty (the addition of th commentary, although the lack of trailers on the international released really bothers me too) Disney US may just say something along the lines of, for example, "Hey, We're doing Aladdin in 200x. Why don't you wait and then we can share the supplements?".

When all is said and done, the films themselves are the most important things, but it's a little annoying if Europe gets passed over again when it comes to supplements. But both of the French Peter Pan and the English Pinocchio feature stunning transfers.

(Oh and Chernabog, what's your take on the colours on the current Peter Pan Special Editions/2 disc sets? General opinion is that they are all wrong, and I wondered if you had a LD or even the first Limited Edition release to compare them with?)

No I didn't know that. And I tend to think of myself as being more European than most of Britain's population. Thanks for telling me!

Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland isn't it Todd_Star? I didn't even looking at a map or atlas or anything.

Back to topic, once "The Lion King" is out I'll have every Platinum film on either VHS or DVD so I can stand to wait for the Last release to make sure that I get all the features. I was a little upset that the US got an audio commentary for Sleeping Beauty so I don't want to miss out again.
Dust? Anyone? No?

Actually Scandinavia is generally only used to describe three of the contries (Norway, Sweden and Denmark) while the term "Nordic" is used when including all five countries.

But enough geography :-) Personally I will not expect Aladdin to released this march anywhere unless it is released in the U.S. as well. I would expect this to be a schedule created when it was first decided that two platinum editions should be released each year and then later pushed back probably to get more time to create the Aladdin dvd.

Sorry 2099net
Peter Pan is not my favorite Disney feature, so I only have it on the latest DVD release that you mention they critized for it´s colors.
Before that, I only owned it on ordinary VHS where the whole picture was awful. So I think I like these colors on the DVD, also if they are a little too much as someone said...

So let's see, so far we've got:

Scandinavian List:
The Lion King-October 2003
Aladdin-March 2004
Bambi-October 2004
Cinderella-March 2005
Lady and the Tramp-October 2005
The Little Mermaid-March 2006
The Jungle Book-October2006
101 Dalmatinas-March 2007

French List: Version 1 (the best, IMO and most likely the one that will occur in the U.S.)
The Lion King-October 2003
Aladdin-October 2004
Bambi-March 2005
Cinderella-October 2005
Lady & Tramp-March 2006
The Little Mermaid-October 2006
Jungle Book-March 2007
101 Dalmatians-October 2007

French List: Version 2
The Lion King-October 2003
Aladdin-March 2004
The Little Mermaid-October 2004
Bambi-March 2005
The Jungle Book-October 2005
Cinderella-March 2006
Lady and the Tramp-October 2006
101 Dalmatians-March 2007

This is insane...And the U.S. *STILL* doesn't have an official order to its platinum line. No one even knows if the original platinum list (that's posted on the Ultimate Disney site somewhere) will still be in effect now that the dates have changed.

I wouldn't worry about it Disneykid. Even if they did have a list, they'd only change it a year or two later. :)

We'll just have to take each disc as it comes. I still think this whole Platinum increased schedule thing has been a mess and ill-convieved by all involved. I just hope it doesn't affect the quality of the discs (perhaps this is why Disney backtracked on the 2 per year - they needed the extra time to get the supplements together).

Yeah, you're probably right. They're most likely spending ages making a CGI game for Aladdin's DVD where you play Abu and hunt down Iraqi terrorists. ;)

I'm surprised they are planning to release Aladdin at all in that case...
Are you allowed to show anything from the Middle East in the US at the moment? Or is that un-American?

Yes, I will have some Patriot Fries with my coke...

I can't really see the reason for buena vista scandinavia to release 2 platinum editions for 2004, when the u.s will not. To be honest, i might be from sweden, but i buy all of my Disney Classics from the u.s, as it's the true format, with the true running time & extras. Sure, some of those swedish dubs brings back nice memories, from my childhood, but i won't go buying the same release just because of that. And to be honest, our DVD's stinks, when it comes to extras at times. No audio commentary included on the Dumbo release, no "A Day For Eeyore" Classic "Short" (25min) on the pooh 25th anniversary edtion. They arn't platinum editions, but if disney's gonna trash extras like this for three or more language versions of those pesky "interactive" games, and sing alongs, i'll never buy another scandinavian release again. My last one pinocchio will be sold today, as they've even redubbed the original dub, so now they don't even give you those nostalgic childhood flashbacks anymore. So if bambi's released in sweden a year earlier, i won't buy it, unless disney stops redubbing the old dubs, that were made for the original swedish theatrical release.

:!: May god bless America, and the Walt Disney Studios :!:
